I believe it is about 4.5mm wide.
That's a great point- we'll need to make sure to include MM measurements for the guys......

For example- this custom made jobbie is 9mm. Bold

Oooh, that's something a little bit special, David! Is that an asscher in the 9mm custom ring?  It's very elegant.

ACE! Have you seen this? I have a strong feeling you'd like it a lot!

Interesting how very different these two rings are.  I find men's WBs EXREMELY difficult to match and fit to a man... thickness and style are SO important.  To me, for some reason, women seem to have greater latitude in terms of what works for style and size.  Why is that?  Or, I am I just completely sexist? (So sorry if that's the consensus). Maybe it's just that MY man's hands are difficult to pair with a ring???  dontknow

Depends on the man, I suppose. I would have been more likely to discover I could fly than to get DH to wear a ring with a stone of any sort. Plain 2.5m platinum band only. Even then, he didn't really like it until it was beaten up, oddly shaped and nicely scratched!

That said, I think he would really suit that first band that David posted. I hurt my hand a few weeks ago and it started to swell, so I gave him my eternity band to keep safe. He wore it and it looked better on him that it does on me. Only a little bit annoying...

Hummm. After I wrote this I began thinking... (unusual, I know!).  But, my DH has BIG, farmer boy hands, yet, also, his taste is somewhat more classic and refined.  And, like Mr. M, he's NOT a stone guy (I tried). It was very difficult to find something "just right."  My first hubbie had large hands as well.  He didn't wear a WB, and I can't imagine a ring on his hands unless it were a classic, plain, rounded comfort fit band - kind of basic. My brother, on the other hand (no pun intended), has more average-sized mitts, with long, slender fingers.  He can probably wear just about any kind of ring he wnts to (and he does... he has some of my grandfather's rings that he wears often).  So, perhaps it is just a hand-thing, not a male/female-thing?

Hahaha, Jen, maybe you should give your DH the eternity band and TRADE-UP for yourself?  Evil

My DH had huge hands, in fact his wedding ring could fit onto my thumb with masses of space left over and I`ve by no means got small hands myself.
When we married in 1973 white gold was just becoming fashionable and he chose a wide whitegold plain heavy band. He hated it and always said it was too heavy and annoying. It spent most of it`s time in my jewellery box.
Years later for our 25th silver wedding anniversary he bought me my first proper diamond ring, a 1.05ct RB solitaire set in a plain yellow gold band. My original engagement ring was a tiny cluster of diamonds which were so small you almost needed a magnifying glass to see them !
He chose a narrow yellowgold band and was delighted with it, said it was the wedding ring he should have chosen in the first place and he happily wore it for the rest of his life.
Yet I know many men, my 2 brothers included, who absolutely refuse to wear any ring at all. My Dad wouldn`t either, nor will my sons. My oldest son wore his wedding ring for all of a week and then declared he couldn`t be doing with it !

When we were looking for a ring for my hubby, he too said absolutely no on the diamonds.  He wanted a titanium band, at that point they were black not gray like most are now, and I had to say no way.  I wish he would go for diamonds, because I love that wide custom made ring with the EC!!!  My grandpa wears a size 13 and he loves big rings with diamonds, I think he would love that ring too Smiley

Lynne-- I know I've told this story before, but it is worth retelling here.

Twenty six and a half years ago, right after our wedding, DW and I are driving to our honeymoon destination. We are married less than 24 hours. Keep in mind that I 'm  a poor college student, currently employed as a beach lifeguard (been one for 10 years) and just the money from the wedding envelopes in my pocket--(what a catch ). Anyhow, we are driving along and I am gripping the steering wheel when I realize that my wedding band is cutting into the web space of my fingers. I put up with it for about an hour then casually take off the ring and slip it into the front pocket of my jeans. I feel DW looking at me as I'm doing this but nothing was said. I figure it's no big deal.

About 5 minutes later, DW says: "Honey, can you reach behind you and hand me my purse?" With my eyes still on the road, I reach behind and start feeling for her purse. Once I secure it, I hand it to her and watch from the corner of my eye as to what was so important that she needed her purse right then.
I watch as she unzips her purse, slips out her wallet and opens the change purse in front. I'm thinking, how sweet that she's getting out toll money, when I see her slip off her ER and wedding band and put it in the change purse. I watch her put it back in the purse, zip it up then gently place her purse on the back seat behind her.
Now, I'm facing her with a "what the..." look on my face.
"Well..." she says in a sweet voice, "if you're not going to wear your ring then I'm not going to wear mine".

I haven't taken off my ring since!

As for the wedding bands with stones--I believe that if they are designed to look more masculine, more guys would wear them. First of all they have to be comfortable, secondly they have to be contemporary and thirdly they can't outbling their wife's ring.

I personally like the idea of multiple brown diamonds in brushed platinum 8mm width--dark heavy yet refined.
Here's a challenge for all of you...if you guys had to design a multiple stone (colored or colorless) wedding band for your man, what would it look like?

Gosh, that's a hard challenge.  DJM, remember, if you have a brushed finish on the platinum, once you've dinged it, you can't fix it. At least if the finish starts out polished, you can always have it re-polished... (or just leave it dinged-up, kind of masculine in it's own right). I do like the idea of using brown diamonds (but, then, you and I BOTH seem partial to the browns).

Regarding a stone or stones on a WB, I think my DH is more concerned with 1) the ring spinning around, putting any stone(s) in the wrong place, and 2) the potential for him to destroy ANY ring, let alone one with stones in it. DJM, as far as being contemporary or not, I think that is a matter of taste.  For some reason, we seem to associate "contemporary" with being more masculine these days.  But, I'm not sure that's always true. Like anything else, certain styles flatter some and not others.  Contemporary on some men just looks BAD. Just as more traditional styles on some men looks unattractive.

LOL DJM
My daughter in law doesn`t bat an eyelid about him not wearing his wedding band. She`s one of the rare women who doesn`t care a toss about jewellery.
When he asked her to marry him he gave her a budget big enough to buy a stunning ring, at first she said she didn`t want to bother with an ER but after much persuasion she bought a teenie tiny princess cut solitaire and then told him to pack his suitcase because the rest of the ER ring budget was being spent on a holiday for them both.
They`ve been married for 5 years on May 1st and she`s still the same. In fact I gave her 3 very nice rings a few months ago and they`re still sitting in the box waiting to be sized by her, I bet she never wears them but I`m not offended because it`s just the way she is and I know she`ll keep them safe for my grand daughter even if she herself never bothers with them.
Now give her a horse, car or the opportunity to travel somewhere and she`d snatch your hand off  Grin

DJM-your story makes me laugh!  I would have done the same thing Smiley

I surprised my hubby with a ring on our wedding day, one he never new about-that would be his 'fancy' ring.

He works with his hands, so a plain band is all he wanted for everyday, but I thought that was too boring for dressing up.

So I had a ring custom made, a Plat and 18kt YG ring with small rounds, it's rounded on the inside and kind of a beast-17grams.  The band is 7mm wide with the inside of the band being 5mm of Plat and 1mm of 18kt YG on either side(a small groove separates the 2 metals, there are 6 (2mm each stone) evenly spaced small RB, that are hammer set around the band and it is brushed.

He loved it and said he would have never tried it on himself because of the stones, but is glad that I choose it for him.  I will try for pics.  I think it is very masculine and with the stones being all the way around the band it doesn't matter if it spins or not.  He prefers the brushed metal and doesn't mind the scratches at all.

I think something similar to his ring with brown diamonds hammer set into it would be fabulous or alternating white and browns Smiley

It would look like a plain 2.5mm platinum band, since 1) it's the only thing he'd wear and 2) there's no way I'm encouraging him down that route.

One person per household on the diamond collection trail is probably sufficient.  Grin

In all seriousness, he'd probably chew off his own arm before he'd wear a diamond ring, even if I did design it for him. If I was designing it though, it would  be a small white ec set e/w or an asscher set into a plain plat band or tension set. Something fairly narrow, as he doesn't have big hands.

Actually, I've thought and thought about this (cause I have a deadline approaching Grin) and I think on balance I prefer him with a plain plat band too. I can't really imagine anything else working.  Huh?

On the plus side, if my design did go unworn for long enough, I could put the stone in a pendant for myself...

DJM-I drew this band for my pink baguette and just changed it to a bezel set brown bag in a 2 tone band or a bezel set white baguette in an all plat band !?!?!  For me I would want the bezel for the baguette to sit up on top of the band alittle and not flush with it, but for a man's ring I think flush would be nice Smiley
