Hi all!
Here's a remarkable diamond.

Since we have been lucky in life, and diamond-dom specifically, we are very close with the man, and the people who work for him, that cut this remarkable diamond.

Here's a glimpse into a world of diamonds few people get to understand.
This diamond is a 14.66carat Fancy Intense Yellow VS1- as graded by GIA.

Here's how it came about:
We started with a piece of rough that weighed 40.42carats.
The rough was sewn into two pieces.

The  "top" is over at GIA now, we anticipate a grade of Fancy Yellow- it's an imperfect diamond.
Probably Si2. It is a radiant and weighs 6.87carats
Add the two and you'll see the total polished weight is 21.53 carats.
That means 18.89carats of diamonds being swept up by the janitors, and sticking to the walls, and everything else.
Diamond cutting factories are not very neat places- lotsa dust.
Very very expensive dust too.
We lost almost 50% in the cutting of this boulder. But the resultant main diamond is breathtaking.
We were able to saw so that only one of the finished diamonds suffered the consequences of imperfect clarity.
I suspect the other diamond- the 6.87 which we'll be posting here in a few days- is also pretty durn nice.

Here's more of the 14.66

Here's the stats from the brand-ee new GIA report:
ITEM #: R1781
Asscher Cut Diamond, Loose

  WEIGHT: 14.66ct
  SHAPE: Asscher Cut
  COLOR: Fancy Intense Yellow
  CLARITY: VS1
  MEASUREMENTS: 14.34 x 13.32 x 8.76 mm
  TOTAL DEPTH: 65.8%
  TABLE SIZE: 65%
  POLISH: G
  SYMMETRY: G
  FLUORESCENCE: FAINT
  GIA REPORT #: 15696496

Price: $420000

Plus- guess what this diamond isn't?
An Asscher cut.
Technically speaking, it's an Emerald- not even a square one at that.
Still, anyone looking at this who didn't see Asscher does not know what an Asscher looks like!

Heavens to mercy. David told me about this mother of diamonds earlier today. That is gorgeous. Check out all that concentric stuff happening! Small table, high crown. It's an asscherish em cut, too. I'd buy it but it's a little large for my finger.

But as a necklace.....

Jeez Flash, I'd already marked it as "sold " in my mind to you!

Oh well...that means we'll offer it to the general public.

For scale: Here's the monster next to a "mere" 4.18 W-X

Breathtaking!!!

It was pretty strange, I was opening this post to view the pictures at the same time as watching Antiques Roadshow where a woman in PA brought in a ring passed on to her from her grandmother. It was a FIY 3.25 carat Asscher cut ca. 1930 set in a platinum filligree mounting. It was beautiful and she was stunned!! She had no idea what she had. Lucky lady!

I also want to say that even though it is dwarfed, I am impressed by how well that W-X keeps up its color next to the FIY!  Makes me love the "little" guy even more!

WOW.   Shocked  WOW.   Shocked  HOLY WOW.   Shocked

David, you sure know how to start a new section of the forum off right!  I have never seen anything like that - NEVER.  I absolutely HAVE to get to NY soon as I want to hold that darling in my hand - or rather hands!  I'll probably need both!   Grin  You may want to have some extra security on hand for when I start sobbing and refusing to leave without it...!!!

Yeah Snooper, I hear ya - put this baby on my list in the 'money no object' thread too.  HOLY MOLY!

That's what we call the smaller part of the rough which is on top when we saw- a "Toppie"
Since the main stone is what's going to make the business feasible, the toppie presents a different opportunity.
We're free to cut to our hearts content.

this 6.87 carat results from the polishing of the top piece of the rough that 14.66 came from.

The depth on this guy? A remarkable 61.2%!

ITEM #: R1783

  WEIGHT: 6.87ct
  SHAPE: Radiant Cut
  COLOR: Fancy Yellow
  CLARITY: SI2
  MEASUREMENTS: 11.95 x 10.10 x 6.18 mm
  TOTAL DEPTH: 61.2%
  FLUORESCENCE: FAINT
  GIA COLOR REPORT #: 15704229

Price: $68,700

David, I AM BLOWN AWAY!!!!!

They are both so stunning & that Asscher (looks like an Asscher to me-not EC) is so cool!

I am curious too. How does the cutter decide on which cut to do?Huh??

That diamond is so wonderfully crisp, you can see David's fingerprint "magnified" through it.    There are just no words!  I am in utter AWE!!  notworthy  That is definately tops in the "If money were no object" thread!   Hey that reminds me ...I have to check my lotto ticket that I purchased....

AZ...it is so true...all that jewelry can delight in such a way that it truly can make your heart skip a beat!   Did you buy anything?    It would be soooo hard not to!   crybaby2 ~Ronda

omg  I'm beyond words.  Stunnified is as close as it gets.  (great word)

I would have thought it was an asscher, too, but hey - what do I know?  What makes this an EC instead?    I see windmills, not TV people. Huh?   Does this make it an Escher Cut?

No, the Escher cut is the stair-like one, not the windmill-like one.

(I think it's an EC because of the number of steps in the crown, plus the fact that it's over 5% non-square, so GIA does not call it a "modified square step-cut" but "emerald cut". Overfussy or what?)
