I mean I think it's a transitional.
Tiny table, and open culet....who knows.....

Here we go!
I'd say it's probably about an N color...Medium Blue- I1 Clarity

below , next to R3727- 1.10ct Cushion in a halo.....

I concur, it IS a Honkin' diamond.  Pretty, though.

I have to say I love the color.  Having med blue fluor would be great to me, but I'm not so sure of this cut.  It has a smaller table and a culet but it seems to lack some of the chunkier flashes (arrows are too narrow) for what I personally love to see in in older cuts.   It isn't bad, but not quite what I expected to see based on the title alone.

Again I love the color!!!

That is a big stone though.  I'd love to see it on my hand Grin

YOu could be right Squig- maybe I got hooked in by the tiny table and open culet......

Could be a new stone....but...the girdle is bruted- which is an older way of doing it......

I should clarify that I totally believe it is an older stone!  Just not what *I* expected to see.  Especially with such a tiny table and large culet.  Looking at my two trannies, one has more "modern arrows" and a very small culet.  My other is a bit older and has a larger culet and an even smaller table but has the chunky looking arrows.  This one has absolutely the opposite of what I am used to seeing with the less chunky feel but with a tiny table and a decent sized culet.

The patterning is really unique though.  To explain so all aren't lost, the "arrow heads" are much larger than I am used to seeing on such a "skinny arrow body"  That in itself is really neat to me.  I've never seen a stone quite like this.

ROFL Squigs, when I hear the word "trannies", transitional-cut diamonds are *not* the first thing to come to mind!

((Pretty cool boulder there, though)

I am not in love with it  ( if it was an OEC I would lay down and die in my drool)

but I love the warm color and I would love to have a honkin' diamond like that someday

...and a step to the right.

The more I look at it the more I like it which is odd.  I went from "not fond of it" to "not sure of it" to "that's unique" to "cool cut" in a short time.

You didn't happen to get video of this one did you?

We would list this diamond at about $90k... which is about 25% more than I would have expected even 12 months back...now, it's the right price.

If I asked really nicely, could I have it for oh, say ...one fiftieth of that?

Because, I really do like it very much indeed, but it would take me a while to find a match, for studs...  Grin

Seriously, I love it. I hope it's still there next time I come to NYC so I can try it on. It's amazing.

Let me enable you:

Metal weight of a martini setting for 1 carat stones: 1.34 gram including post and wide friction back. Say that for an 8 carat stone it's three times as much, so 5 gram round number. Weight of an 8 carat stone: 1.6 gram. Total weight of the stud earring 6.6 gram.

Average weight of 10 earrings that DW finds comfortable and wears all day long (no pendants, but only 2 pairs of studs): 7.54 gram.

Go ahead, and wear 8 carat studs at any time, if you can afford them!

Depends on your definition... probably GIA would class it as modern brilliant, but they aren't very forthcoming as to what are the criteria they use to make the call.
