Hi all.
Here's a gorgeous pair of gem quality rubies.
They are square cushions- with a ton of life.

Toal weight is 3.30cts- the pair of stones a would have a price of about $16,000 dollars

There are reports on these from a Swiss lab that I certainly can't vouch for...
OK, purported to be Burmese....

:O So gorgeous! I kind of like rubies with a little cloud to them though; like with emeralds, I think it's my primitive little 'HAHAH SEE THIS IS NOT FAKE IT HAS IMPERFECTIONS' drive kicking in. But my goodness, what a gorgeous color.

WOW!  These are gorgeous.  Does anyone know what's involved in determining gemstone origin?

Is the lab Gubelin? *SIGH* Probably so. Anyway, I've been wanting a pair of quality Burmese rubies in the WORST way. Of course, cushion is my favorite shape. Soooooo, as usual, it goes without saying:  Bawling

Generally through the types of inclusion that are present. However, in some cases it may be the presence or lack of certain trace elements (detectable through spectrography of various kinds), or particular crystalline habits/combinations.

those are so gorgeous, and a deep blood red! i always thought that rubies were sort of pathetic when i saw them in jewelry stores and they were pink and sad.  i used to prefer garnets to rubies for their deep redness.  little did i know, proper rubies are amazing!

how different does carat weight go from gem to gem?  i figure different stones must have different densities, is carat weight always how gems are weighed?

A (metric) carat is the common unit of weight for all gems. It's equal to 0.2 grams.

Because gems have different densities, their size for any given weight will vary: for example, even if cut with the same proportions, a ruby or sapphire will be about 10% smaller than a diamond. In addition, coloured gems are rarely cut to the same proportions as diamonds.

One exception to the "carat" system is CZ and other diamond simulants: these are generally much heavier than diamond, but are sold by the "diamond carat" meaning that the stones are usually retailed/labeled with the same physical size as diamonds of various weight (so a "1 ct" CZ will weigh nearly double a 1 ct diamond).

As usual, OMC, you have come up with the relevant tidbit of information and garnished it with more interesting tidbits.  I didn't know that about CZ weight, and am glad to have that information.

Thanks! bigclap

Usually gemstone "bellies" are bigger/heavier.

These are something else.

These are an absolutely stunning colour! Imagine them with a teeny delicate little micropave halo, hanging from a cushion cut diamond of a similar size! The best earrings in the world?!

Lovely!

Do they match enough to be side stones to something special in the middle?  Or maybe they are too large for that?

At 3.30 total weight, they'd be the size of 1.40/1.50 carat diamonds - a tad too big for anything under 10 ct   Grin

I don't know... drop a gobsmacking 2ct colorless cushion in the middle, set in a platinum band with rose gold around the rubies and I'd be set for life. Big band, yes. Unforgettable ring, definitely. Over-the-top piece, probably. But, it'd be a timeless classic, for sure. I wouldn't even have to wear the honker. Just gazing at my not-so-little masterpiece sitting in the jewelry box would do it for me.  devildance

David, are these a good match to each other?  If not, would you consider making two rings out of them?  Say one with with a lovely double halo and the other with two high white cushion sides?  It'd be a shame to send them back to the seller.   love7

I'll take the three-stone, please. And, I don't require high color... I-color is fine. See, I'm easy...  Grin

That being said, if they are well-matched, it'd be a crime to split the pair. Shame on you Mikla...  a082

Hi all!

They are a wonderful match- in fact I doubt the seller would consider splitting them up.

I agree, as side stones we'd need a MASSIVE center
