David
If I`m totally honest I love the EC sapphires and I love the intense yellow diamond but I`m just not sure if I love both together.
It would be one of those rings I`d have to see in the flesh to fully appreciate it.
I`d love to see a similar ring but with a crisp white radiant in the centre. I love the style.

Not to be too much of a critic (I hope) . . . but I would prefer it if the stones were all emerald-cut, or if the center were white.

Believe it or not, when folks are honest enough to tell us they don't like something, it's a great help! We truly appreciate it ( then we boot their asses off the forum)

NO!!!!!!!!! I AM KIDDING ( about the booting, not about how much we value an honest opionion)

Hmm. I have mixed feelings about this one. I too think it's a bit of a colour clash to be honest, BUT I still like it. It's the first time I've seen that colour combination and liked it. I don't think I would wear it, but I do admire it, if that makes sense? I can see that it would appeal to someone who likes bold, statement pieces.

Every time I see sapphires with yellow diamonds, I think fondly of my high school art teacher telling me fthat yellow and blue don't go well together. He repeated it every time I handed in a project (it was a favourite combination of mine at the time) Grin  Mr Beaumont, if you read this, I did grasp some of the things you tried to teach me! It's still a cool ring, though!

I`m wondering if we went to the same school Jen because our PE kit was navy blue gym knickers and yellow T shirts ! We resembled badly bruised wasps buzzing around the sports field .....
I can`t recall a Mr Beaumont though. My Art teacher had the unusual name of Mr Smith ( tis true ) and looked greatly relieved when I told him I didn`t plan to do Art as an O level. Maybe my colour combinations were all too much for him  Grin

Mrs. M, I'm sorry, but I can't believe Mr. Beaumont was an ART teacher. What a ridiculous statement. Without yellow and blue, there'd be no green.  Or, the ever-popular and enduring style of Provincial textiles and design. Do I dare mention yellow and blue flowers – pansies, for example?  What about the way rich, yellow daffodils look against a bright, clear blue sky? - SNORT- What a dimwit your "teacher" was.  And in ART of all things... where creativity should be encouraged, not restrained. I think your man should spend a little time examining some of the great masters...

Perhaps, if you feel there's a "clash" then, it may be due to the similarity in the level of tone in each stone (quite intense, meaning very close to the true hue you'd see on a color wheel). If the yellow were the same, but the blues were lighter, say like the blues in Robin's mother's ring, for example, you might feel more comfortable.

Also, I agree with Mikla, I might prefer it if all the stones were the same style cut... but, then, maybe it doesn't matter. In the end, I happy to see something that is different and unusual.  This one gets my vote.

BTW, here's some yellow and blue:

ROFLMAO!!!

I wish I'd had an answer like that when I was at school. So much more eloquent than "um, well I liked it, but ok..."

I think he'd have been happy if I'd mixed them and made green though - I never thought of that. I wonder, does this ring morph into a really, really gorgeous emerald eventually? Grin

Mr Beaumont was a sweet, lovely man. He just didn't understand my artistic vision...

To me, blue and yellow is perfect for UCLA, so it makes me really really want to love the combo for jewelry,  but it just is not my favorite.  I do believe D had another like this that sold though, right?

I am not an emerald fan either, but suddenly think this same ring with a white center and emerald sides would be FAB!

Hey, in all fairness, I DO know what Mr. Beaumont was getting at. But, again, it has more to do with the strength and tone of each color, as well as the amount of each color used in relation to the other color, more than just the colors themselves. For example, Vincent VanGogh's Starry Night is basically this same sapphire blue with intense yellow, and, for most viewers, the painting is VERY uncomfortable BECAUSE he juxtapositioned two primary and very intense colors against one another. On the other hand, yellow is pretty close to gold (just add black to get closer to gold) – think of all the royalty throughout the centuries who have juxtaposed royal blue with gold... it is a classic combination.  dontknow

Jen

He didn't understand art either.

However, in the particular case in point, I'm inclined to agree with Mr Beaumont. The ring looks better when it's on a hand, but still it is not quite... comfortable to look at.

I know, I just don't like it. However pretty the painting/ item / whatever, it doesn't appeal to me. BUT for some reason, I keep coming back to look at this ring and I'm getting to like it more and more. It's odd. I think it's going to make someone really happy because it has a big personality. It's just cool.

So, just to play even MORE of a Devil's Advocate here, what do people think of the similar yellow diamond and RUBY ring that David has offered? The intensity of the ruby color is about as intense as the blue in the sapphire, and if I recall (I'll go check in a minute) the yellow diamonds in each of the rings are similar in color to one another...

Sorry T
I must have a kind of mental block against yellow diamonds with coloured gemstones. I love both the rubies and the sapphire EC`s but only with white diamonds.

BR, I find this one quite hypnotic. I am moving from thinking "EEK, HORRIBLE colour clash" to , "Hm, I wonder if I should trade something up for this?" Grin  It's really starting to appeal to me.

T, I like the yellow and ruby ring just fine. The colours look warm and lovely together, to my eye. I just don't suit rubies, so it never really registered on my radar. At least, DH tells me I don't suit rubies. I tend to believe him since he's the one who went to art school, but sometimes I sort of suspect it might be a money saving ruse... Grin

OK, the diamond and ruby ring I'm referring to is R2082.  I see the diamond is just a Fancy LIGHT Yellow, not INTENSE, but it does appear to be fairly intense in the photo. So, is the red color as much as an issue paired with the yellow diamond as the blue seems to be?

Hey, Awestruck, no need to be sorry!  To be honest, probably, I'd choose several "safe" items before these. BUT, if I had extra cash...  Evil I like the fact that these rings are different, and I like having sparky gem combos that are a bit "outside of the box."  For me, well, I just don't wear a lot of yellow very well, so that kind of puts me out of the loop here, unless I were able to see these in person.

Mrs. M, did DH have Mr. Beaumont as his teacher?  Grin

Sorry, just to clarify: By "safe" I mean items - shapes, sizes and colors - that I know work for ME, not necessarily items that are "normal" by anyone else's standards.

I saw the ring "live" last week. It's much, much better in person. Er, in the flesh. Oh, well, you know what I mean.
