This is so sad.  I have such a soft spot for animals.  But you tried to nurse her, T, and you did what you could.   angel11

Oh Trink, I'm so sorry to hear about Strudel.   Sad

It sounds like she had a happy little life, even if she was struggling.  You and your DH did an amazing job taking care of her.  Hugs.

So sorry to hear that little Strudel lost her fight, but at least she was loved, warm and cared for during her short time with you.

Alrighty... I see that I never finished here. Sorry about that. My notes are now heaven-knows-where, however, I MUST add this unforgettable ring to the thread:

R2864

Honestly, I don't understand WHY R2864 is still in inventory. It a no-brainer in terms of its classic design and timeless appeal. I was SURE it would disappear before the holidays, that is one reason I didn't rush here to write about it. Really, WHAT IS WRONG WITH EVERYONE???

CAN'T YOU SEE HOW LOVELY THIS RING IS?

Let's review. The center is a 1.17ct Old Mine Cut L-color SI1 diamond. At 6.13 x 5.99 x 4.41mm face-up, the diamond is nicely proportioned and sized (as one would expect for an OMC, the stone is deeper than most modern RBs, with a depth of 73.6%). The diamond is pretty and very bright; quite captivating. And, for you people who suffer from "tintphobia," no worries, the diamond is quite "white" looking for an L-color; the medium blue fluorescence may help here. BTW, the fluorescence did not bother me at all. With some diamonds, it does.

Obviously, if you are looking for a modern, round brilliant type stone, this is not your gal. This diamond gives off a very different kind of look, and flash, than a more brilliant type of cut. However, don't be fooled. This is a very vibrant diamond with a distinctive personality.

Flanking the diamond are two blue cushion sapphires, totaling 1.38 cts. I can not say enough about the overall color and appeal of these gemstones. The sapphires positively G-L-O-W. Gorgeous, gorgeous, bright, royal blue color. Not overly dark, and definitely not too light. Really, these are sensational to look at colorwise.

I said, THESE SAPPHIRES ARE SENSATIONAL!

Really, I can STILL clearly see the vibrantly colored blues in my mind. Of all the pieces I saw during my last visit, this ring stands out, and the luminous blue sapphires are particularly and distinctly memorable.

David said they used a new setter (new for DBL, that is) to create this piece. As one would expect from David, the craftsmanship is high-quality. In addition, there were subtle differences to this particular ring that made it unlike any other I'd seen at DBL before...

If you examine the side view, you can see that there is a mellow, rounded, handmade appearance to all aspects of the ring. Nothing is hard or harsh. Everything appears soft and curvy. The setting wraps around and caresses the stones. It gives the piece a delicate, feminine look without it being flimsy or weak. And, I think the setting quite suits the old-fashioned characteristics of the center stone – especially with the rounded, high-crown.

Also, is is worth noting that mounting an antique, not-necessarily-symmetrical diamond is not an easy task, especially with an open and symmetrical ring style such as this. When you put the ring on your finger, it is evident that the setter mastered the task. There is nothing unbalanced or awkward about this ring.

Also, if you could see the underside of the piece, you would notice that the opening in the gallery under the diamond is somewhat smaller than many of the DBL pieces that I have seen. Not bad or good, just different if you are familiar with many other DBL pieces.

The polish is exquisite.

Now that I've spilled the beans, let us hope that someone gets on the ball and snaps-up this splendid beauty. I'll be honest and say that I've not been TOO disappointed to see it remain in inventory... I'd love to have this one for myself.

It is well-made. It is beautiful. It is classic. It is timeless. It IS on my list.  Kiss

Ahahaha... I remember the cherrypie swipe!

No, I am afraid that I do not remember seeing the pear pendant. I'll look for my notes, just to double check. However, I am sure that I would easily recall seeing such a spectacular piece.

Saqsay, sorry about the Strudel downer. I still think about her... especially as she rode around in my apron pocket. And, she had the most marvelous, thick fur. Quite the little charmer, that one. She'll not be forgotten.  cat

Trinkette, I've been back to look at the photos of #R2864 and you are spot-on correct. There are some very subtle yet distinct differences about the metal work that are very attractive. The curves and contours (for lack of better description) of the prongs is very eye-catching, at least in extreme close-up.

I hope that David is using the new setter for other pieces. This photo is starting to get some project ideas rattling around in my head...oh, no, there goes another brain cell...

Ahaha, WM! My DH just told me a few moments ago that when we sell my house (and plan to use the funds to build a new house and barn), he is going to take the money and bury and hide it from me it until the moment it is needed for the house and barn projects.  He says, "I can just hear it now... 'I'll only buy ONE diamond...'"  Roll Eyes He knows me too well.

Trinkette - what a wonderful visit.  I can't believe that you were able to look over 2 trays of gorgeous Daussi rings!!!

DBL - I liked the cushion with the side baguettes, but agree with Trinkette that the sides need to be the same colour - that would drive me crazy, too!   But I REALLY LOVE THAT SIDE row of diamonds, really gorgeous!

I would pass on the aircraft carrier diamond - the price point is pretty high for something that doesn't  have the DBL look.  I agree with Trinkette that the massive size and spread makes it look like is might not be a diamond - and that's not the look we want!  If the price point was a lot less, I might rethink it.  Smiley

Keep those gorgeous pics coming, please!  Another day in the midwest with no sun......

So, today in the "Crazy Cool New Color..." thread, we started talking about cyrstal. I love, love, love ultra crystalline diamonds.

Actually, when they consider so many OTHER characteristics, I think it is downright silly that GIA does not consider "crystal" when evaluating diamonds. To me, having fabulous crystal, or not having transparent material, can be SUCH a make-or-break quality for a gem. And, I wonder how many people misunderstand the GIA term "clarity," which refers to a diamond's inclusions and/or blemishes NOT its overall transparency (which, sadly, is not evaluated at all). And, we're not talking about "polish" either. dontknow

I have, however, reconciled myself to the reality that "crystal" is not recorded on diamond reports. And, that's OK. After all, if people aren't aware of "the crystal factor," then, their loss may be our gain.  Evil

Anyway, I can't think about wonderful crystal, transparency, limpidity, water – whatever you want to call it – without thinking about THIS sensational diamond...

R2980

Be still my heart.

If you are into crystal, 1.07ct VS2 Emerald Cut Fancy Brown Yellow R2980 is a force to be reckoned with. I saw the diamond awhile back, before it was set. Actually, David had told me about it before my visit with him and I was seriously considering it for myself. If my piggy bank had been bigger, this diamond would be mine today. The diamond is breathtakingly lovely. Crisp, clean, GLORIOUS crystal. And, in most light, the color is a warm, honeyed peach hue. So subtle. So sublime. The photos do NOT do this beauty justice.

It is weird how the delicate, pastel color makes a hard-edged stone quite soft, feminine and lovely.

I do have a confession. Before seeing the diamond in person, I obsessed about the shape of the "windmill" faceting. I kept thinking that they looked like the US Pentagon and that these patterns would distract me. Now, if you are a "windmill" aficionado, looking at these uber-close-up photos, you too may question the faceting on this stone in terms of classic windmilling – especially because the diamond's overall shape is near-square which gives the gem an Asscher-ish look.

Don't bother yourself with such foolishness.

This diamond is so exquisite in real life, you will not notice the details of any faceting. I didn't even think about it when I saw the gem in hand... I was SO blown away by the overall quality and nature of the diamond that minute details didn't come into play. I had let my neurotic little mind, coupled with someone ELSE's idea that a gems' faceting has to be "just so," cloud my judgement of this extraordinary diamond. It was an excellent lesson learned... there are no hard-and-fast rules when it comes to fancy shapes and colors. This is what makes each so very, VERY unique and special to own.

So, since my visit, the diamond has been set.

R2980

It is a classic, timeless look. The focus is all about the center stone. Nothing detracts. How can you go wrong?

If you have been considering this diamond ring, I say, without hesitation, go for it. Do not waste any time. You will be completely taken by the distinctive beauty this diamond offers.

It is no mistake that I have not written about this one. Another confession: I've been quiet about it because I hoped to save enough to snag her myself. Unfortunately, it is not to be at this time... So, someone else needs to purchase, enjoy and appreciate this marvelous, diaphanious, crystalline jewel. It IS one in a million.  Kiss

I share your love of crystal!

I heard a jeweller describe it as 'waterclear' once, and that is just exactly how I think of it. It's a hard concept to explain, actually. It does make me think of fluidity, so I thought that was a pretty good description - water can have little specks in it but it's still crystal and fluid.

When are you going to be in NYC again? I would like a trusted opinion on one or two Daussi rings. OMC was there when the ones I'd earmarked were all sold!

I've noticed that the GIA Dossiers for the Daussi rings indicate crystal under clarity characteristics, R3319.

I need to get back to my Dad's in NJ during the next few weeks/months (I'll be there for a PGA golf tourney in late August for sure, however, I hope to get there once or twice more before then). And, I have some gemstone projects to deposit with David (gee, I guess I should let him know, huh?).   angel

I am sorry, Mrs. M, that all your pretties were SOLD. However, that's the beauty of Daussi... there is always another just around the corner!  Evil

Huh... Sparkly, I have a 2007 Dossier... no crystal notes. I MUST check this out!
