These are delightful! Beautiful little cushions. I'd like them as post type earrings with little pink halos. So lovely.

They are so lovely!  Exactly what I would love to do with them!! OK, new objects of affection firmly in place!

Sorry Mikla- my statement was not clear!

The culet's reflection appears many times throughout the stone ( indicated by the brown arrows)

also known as Kozibe effect

(yet another useless fact offered to you by Coyote & Co.)

Interesting about the culets. Am I right in thinking they can reflect throughout the stone? I love the old  stones with open culets, just such a distinctive antique look.

Jen

Yes Jen!
Look how many times the culet repeats itself in the 1.17ct

As with so many things about diamonds, I can see it now that it's been pointed out to me! Grin I knew in theory what Kozibe was, but I was never really able to see it before. Thanks for the illustration, David.

The cut of that diamond is incredible. Even better in the video than the still photos. There really is a marked difference in colour depending on the light this stone is in, very interesting.

The video held Amelia's undivided attention from start to finish too. Useful to know! Grin

As soon as you produce a 2.5hr feature movie!  Grin

It was the sound of your voice she seems to like. Just send me a tape! Oh, and since you're going to the post office anyway, how about sending me that diamond? Just so I can see it in different light and report back, of course.

Seriously, it's a stunning stone. What are you thinking of doing with it?

I LOVE that shank and the profile view. So delicate, makes the stone pop!

I haven't seen a Daussi I don't like so far...

Thanks Jen!!

I also love the shank on this one!

AS promised: The Asscher ring.
As it turns out there is an EGL-USA report calling the diamond "Fancy Light Yellow-Uneven"

The center Asscher is .82cts

The side diamonds are awesome here as well.....

One of the reasons we've not stocked this ring is this one that we have in stock now.

Well, I've been looking at these two rings side by side for a while now and I'm puzzled. They are on the face of it, pretty much the same thing. Yet side by side, they each have a very different look (well, side by side on my monitor from two different pictures obviously).

I like the centre of the ring in stock better, but there's something really appealing about the Daussi. I like the way the side stones seem to slope away from the centre, angled towards the shank and I like the claws on the centre stone very much. The ring in stock looks like a more substantial, expensive piece though. The colour of the centre stone is incredible. I don't see any uneven colour at all in these photos. The man at the GIA clearly wasn't getting any (as per description and of course, disclaimer Grin).

In short, if I had to choose between these rings, I'd implode.

Does the centre stone of the DBL ring have more steps?

Good question Jen!
Here's a pic of the one we have in stock

Both stones have a three step top but it's true that ours looks more "steppy"
I believe the facets are wider on the Daussi, which makes the steps see larger.
You can also see where the four "windmills" go all the way to the culet on our Asscher, while stopping midway on Daussi's...
Here's a comparison shot.

You can also see how the greater depth of the "DBL" centre stone translates in a smaller spread - however, I prefer it to the Daussi stone; it also seems to have quite a bit more colour.

I agree omc!
When held next to each other, the Daussi pales by comparison.
BUt let's remember the GIA stone is Fancy Yellow- the EGL grading if "Fancy Light Yellow" is suspect.
Let's say it's a Y-Z, meaning there's two color grades difference.

We've had some lovely rectangular step cuts from Daussi- although we've not purchased any of their square step cuts.
I just realized this now, while wrting this response.......

I, too, prefer the DBL ring when placed side by side with the Daussi.  But I didn't think of it as an asscher when I first looked at it.  I thought it was a square emerald cut, if there is such a thing. Blond-Moment

I do admit to liking the Dassui's claw-type prongs.

That's a great point blooocat.
The term "asscher" too broadly used ( rasies hand guitily)

In fact there's all sorts of square set cuts that are not really asschers.

Actually, come to think of it' even a Royal Asscher Cut is not classified as such by GIA.
It's classified as a "Cut Cornered Square Step Cut" I believe.

Well, I've slept on it and I prefer the DBL version.  Wink

My only slight hesitation is about how much I like the claws on the Daussi ring. I think they look especially fine with a cut corner, just seem to emphasise the shape.

The facet pattern on the DBL stone is by far my favourite. Again, now it's been explained to me, I can clearly see the difference between the two stones! Grin

Jen, I don't think it's too difficult to change the prongs to claw prongs on the DBL ring.  David, am I wrong?

Mikla

Changing prongs may be possible- but it's not really a simple matter.
I also love the claw type prongs- to really do that right it must be designed that way from the beginning....

*SIGH* Must be a girlie thing... I thought I'd give the baby-friendly video a try with DH's grandson here, but, we never even got past the diamond pics when he burped and spit-up. OMG!  He just did something else – BIG TIME SQUISHY –  I must get him off my lap before it escapes the no-longer-fresh diaper... AGGHHHHH!   freakout
