I promise more Asscher shots this week! I think that "the culet" -as a subject- can't be brought up too often in a discussion of diamonds. The culet is a very important part of a diamond's cut. Remember older stones had more open culets.  The reason was that technology had not risen to the point where cutters could polish a diamond perfectly to a point. Eliminating that one aspect gave cutters a lot more room to make the rest of the diamond how they wanted. All of the other lines don't need to be even if they don't meet at a central point- the culet. The Daussi cut has certain inherent distinctions. The culet is one part of it. Daussi uses the open culet to make gorgeous stones that are fairly shallow, yet incredibly brilliant. The result is that , in many cases, a Daussi cushion can look 15-25% larger than it's weight.
