Hi everyone,

You all seem to be longtime friends, so I hope it's okay for a new person to post here.  I just placed my first order from David, who was just as nice as can be.  I found Diamonds by Lauren by googling asscher something, I can't really remember now.  I have to confess that I was surprised "Lauren" was a he, not a she!  lol.  I'd love to hear the story around the name.  Anyway, while I was on the phone with David (likely torturing him with my order, but he was toooo nice to comment), he sent me an email with a link to this forum.  I found it fascinating that there are a lot of jewelry addicts out there, like me.  I knew there were, but I didn't know that it manifested itself on a message board (what do I know)??!!

I'm hooked on custom made platinum jewelry, preferably vintage (Edwardian) in look, but can appreciate all sorts of designs.  I love color-saturated sapphires, tahitian pearls and of course, diamonds.  My two favorite cuts of diamonds are asschers and briolettes.  My husband just purchased a vintage asscher diamond ring for me about 3 weeks ago (well, the diamond is vintage, the setting is not).  I'm redesigning the setting because it did not appeal to me.  We really only bought the diamond anyway - they threw in the setting.   I can at least wear it for the time being.

I also love odd cuts and shapes, so that small "harp" shaped pink diamond on DBL is screaming at me right now, but I have to be strong!!

So I hope that was not TMI.  You all seem to be a very nice, lively bunch of people and I've enjoyed reading your posts!

Cheers!

Hi Michi! Welcome!
I love antique Edwardian (and Georgian) jewelry as well. Is that your antique asscher in your avatar?

Many thanks for the welcome, everyone!

Tea - I am having David make me a pair of asscher earrings, but in typical fashion  Undecided, I had to change the setting (and hopefully at  some point, I stop making requests of the poor guy).  I will post them when I receive them.  David, remember that I may be really picky, but I am also very patient!!

jewellk - alas, I wish that were my asscher, but it is a ring that I saw in a antique jewelry catalogue that I scanned long ago.  If I recall, it was a fancy vivid yellow asscher of about 7 or 8 cts surrounded by vivid pink diamonds, created by Carvin French.  That asscher so fascinated me that I knew if I ever upgraded my original engagement ring, it was the stone I had to have.  As I looked (and looked and looked) for one, I decided that I wanted a vintage stone because of the way they are cut.  So once my husband told me that he would buy me a new ring, I've been on a long hunt, which ended three weeks ago!  So now I have to decide on the mounting.  My stone is white, not a colored diamond.

Cheers!
Michi

So lovely to have you here Michi!  I think you are going to fit in PERFECTLY!  We are always happy to see new faces and you'll fast become another 'longtime friend'!  Welcome aboard!

I've got to say that one of our members has been contemplating setting a yellow diamond in a pink halo.  If you have a big pic of your avatar, could you please post it in her thread in the colored diamonds section?  Her alias is kleinkath and you'll know the thread by the title.  I know she would really appreciate it (as would the rest of us diamond crazy people)!  Thank you!

Feel free to dive in wherever you want Michi - I'm looking forward to getting to know you.   Cheesy

Michi....you are a perfect fit!  Welcome.  And just so you know...we are all really picky...and annoy David to no end!  But that is why he loves us.  Because we want our diamonds to be set perfectly.  And David wouldn't want it any other way.  He really goes the distance to make his customers "repeat offenders".  And unfortunately, we are all in that category.

Beware...DBL pieces are addicting...

We look forward to seeing your lovely new asschers!

I had to chuckle at your post. I guess we are a bit ...overwhelming in our lust for diamonds around here. I'm glad you were not too intimidated. You did join. We LOVE having new members and we will insist on photos.

If you don't want to take your own, have David post photos of your ring. We'd love to see it a little larger than avatar size seeing as how we are picture nuts.

Hi Foxy!

Wowwee, that's a very pretty asscher ring!  I saw DJ's - in fact, I saw all of her rings!  Must be hard to decide what to wear every day! Ok, probably not!

I tried to take a picture of my asscher yesterday, but it didn't come out right without the flash.  I'll keep trying, though so you guys can all see the "before" - the setting is yucky.

This board is a LOT of FUN!!!!

Hi everyone,

I took a picture of my asscher.  I am trying to decide how to set it.  I don't know how to take pictures of jewelry.  This was the only good shot I could get of it so you could see the stone.  The ring looks much bigger here than it actually is; kind of like when someone takes your picture and your nose is the most prominent, bulbous thing because of the angle, hehe!  Anyway, if you look closely, you can see how small the table is.

Looks freaking FANTASTIC to me. Love the shape and corners and just about anything having to do with that asscher.

Thanks WM!  I like the shape too - it was worth the wait.  The dealer that sold it to me said that most people couldn't get over the "shrinkage" as I heard it called in another post, so that was lucky for me.

Hi jewellk, it's 6 cts, but it's very deep, so it does looks smaller than it is.  There's a lot of ctw in the depth, but what sold me on it is how pronounced the hall of mirrors effect is when you look at it from the top - I think because of the small table.

Eeek! Embarrassed  I hope I didn't offend!!! It's hard to judge size with pictures, especially when you don't know the hand size of the model. My asscher is less than 1 carat and I have large hands so it looks even smaller. I can't imagine that you'll experience shrinkage (that was my post BTW:) ) with a 6 carat asscher!! It's gorgeous! LOL!!  You did not offend me in the least, jewellk - how would you have known.   Plus, it really does look smaller than its ctw.

Thanks, Tea!  And seeing the picture of your ER in your avatar, I looked up your thread and yours is awesome.  Everything about it is gorgeous and elegant!  I LOVE the scalloped points.  I bet you can't stop looking at it! And I'm really sorry about your dad's cancer.  I'll say a prayer for all of you.

I wish someone would help me take pics!  I just seem to get a lot of flashback with the pics, even with no flash.   Huh?  Seems like a lot of the pictures I see on this board are taken in natural light against lighter backgrounds.  Maybe I'll try that some more and post my results.  My DH saw me taking pictures of my ring and now he thinks I've completely lost it!!
