Hey, everyone--long time lurker, first time poster.  Just checking in to say hello to my fellow DBLers.

I first found DBL in the fall of '09, around the time I started trying to figure out which diamond shapes I like best.  While I have an appreciation for the chic regality of the Asscher and the soft allure of the cushion, I've found that I'm a classic emerald cut gal all the way.  Should I ever get engaged, I will probably go with a ring featuring that diamond.

Since I was a kid, I've wanted a yellow diamond, and DBL was really the only place I could find that offered natural yellow diamonds in the emerald cut shape.  (Yes, I know Blue Nile carries some, but I've found their stuff to be generic and overpriced; I like diamonds and jewlery with personality.)

Anyway, now that I'm finally inching toward a place where "real" jewlery purchases will be possible, I'm already picking out my DBL stuff.  I don't really own that many valuable pieces (a nice set of pearls, an heirloom diamond ring that belonged to a great aunt and a nice 14 karat gold wishbone necklace that I almost never wear--I'm a white gold/platinum person.)

I'm still learning about diamonds, so I'm sure I will have at least a few questions for all of you experts.   Wink

Welcome, LateUnicorn!  You're in the right place if you don't want something generic.  If you don't mind, can you post a photo of the diamond ring you inherited?

Hi Late Unicorn,

So glad you took the "plunge" !  I've been around here since last Winter...my diamond education has definitely been growing from the help of all these knowledgable people, so do stick around and ask away!  I too, am an emerald cut lover.  It reminds me of a prism, with lots of colors breaking through.  My first ER was actually a round brilliant, but as my knowledge for diamonds grew, so did the need for something more unusual .  I had to wait nearly 15 years for a "second" ER...oh but the wait was worth it.  I hope you don't have to wait as long as I did.  I'm thinking a RH emerald cut diamond...white or yellow  Evil

welcome!  I'm new here too and after some seeeeeerious lurking I decided to jump in.

I love that you're exploring the world of diamonds!  I have always been a glitter gal myself, but didn't turn my head towards diamonds just because they seemed unattainable.  I got engaged with a lovely ring, but looking back I'm appalled!  We didn't ask about any of the four c's.  I didn't really have awareness about any fancy shapes (other than pears and marquise and I certainly didn't want THOSE....fast forward a decade later and I'm having a pear ring made now!  lol!)  I was so ignorant for that first purchase, and tentative because I felt as though I would be "greedy" for asking for anything.  Boy was I wrong!  The only thing that saddens me is not having found DBL way back then!

I look forward to learning more with you.

Hi everyone. Late Unicorn, so glad your lurking days are OVER! Being smitten with diamonds can turn into a SERIOUS addiction... so buckle-up and enjoy the ride.  devildance

Firegypsy, we've ALL had our eyes opened to a "new world" of diamonds at CDI/DBL (thank you , David). For what it is worth, I think of the Four C's as just a place to start (a marvelous marketing tool, but, there is so much more to be considered when selecting diamonds... I wish a greater number of  people knew this, or GIA would expand its published criteria). There is nothing like seeing a gem in person... the next best thing is having a TON of COOL stuff to see and judge, as well as having a trusted jeweler/gem guy who takes the time to know your tastes, preferences and, ...um... sometimes, quirky personality.  Grin

I wouldn't mind...if I weren't pic-posting challenged.  Someday, if I can figure out how, I will post a photo.  Incidentally, the ring is not that old, ('30s) nor is it really flashy or anything--the diamonds in it are tiny chips. Still, I wouldn't mind hearing others thoughts on it.

Judging from recent photos on the DBL "New Jewelry" page, neither of you is late:  You're definitely right on time for the party!

Welcome to our little forum!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum!
Glad you decided to join us - jump right in. Most of us don't bite... Grin

I'd love to see your 1930s ring, it's a period I love. Old Man Coyote's wife has some very fine pieces from that era, too.
