Our reunion photo!!!

« on: December 20, 2010, 10:53:03 AM »

Hi everyone!
My name is Tracey and I have fallen in love with DBL!! Oh and my fiance too! Kiss
Here's my story:
My engagement has been anything but typical. Early Feb. of this year,I went to my highschool reunion and reconnected with a classmate. We weren't close friends in school because everytime I walked by he would start acting strange and just plain goofy. So he was banned to the nerd list forever.  tard   Well, little did I know that his goofiness was a symptom of a boy in love . We went off t graduate and haven't spoke to each other in **ump-teen years  cross cross
So when our mutual friend planned our reunion and he found out I was going to be there without a +1 - he was there!
Long story short the reunion came and went and my opinion changed. And on our first date he admitted his love for me in our school years and how we were so lucky to have found each other again.   hugging
Awwwww love3 SO..... My fiance has allowed me to bypass the surprise factor of the proposal and pick out my ring in budget. I found rings at malls and boutiques that were pretty and VERY expensive but not unique . And I justcould not have a ring that cost more than my lil Toyota(which I love thank you very much!!) So I have found David! And as soon As I figure it out I will post a pick of the baby I choose!

Welcome Classicgirl.

Congratulations on your engagement and renewed connection!

Ain't life strange.  I always dreamed of reconnecting with my high school sweetie via a reunion, but ours ended up in classmates.  Grin  After more than 35 years apart, not only did we meet, we fell back in love, got engaged with a glorious DBL ring  4 (li'l BLOO), and are living pretty happily and hopefully ever after.  Wishing you the same joy!

You have indeed, found the exact right sites for what you want!  DBL is the ONLY place for me to buy, anymore.  Folks that work for D over there are wonderful (so is David, BTW), and you'll never be disappointed with the stock or a custom piece.

Can't wait to see your choice - and do check out the wedding dress addict thread, and post your plans and pictures in the chat area for weddings and anniversaries.  Nothing we love better than a wedding except maybe a new baby! Evil

Welcome to the forums!!!

I just went back and looked at that same video about the I1 diamonds to see this one in motion.  I think that those I1 diamonds were great!  Most had the inclusions just disappear as the diamond moved.  To me that's a good I1.

If there is anyone I'd trust to find me a good I1, it would be David for sure!

Congrats on your engagement too!  I just love reunion stories as well Smiley

So is R3266  the final answer, or just first perusal's choice?  That's a killer stone, especially for the price, and an incredibly beautiful semi-mount you're focusing on.  Hopefully not everyone is on vacation this week, and some of the folks who have actually used that setting or seen that particular cushion can weigh in with you.

Personally, I'd jump right in without a care in the world, but then, I spent almost a year poking around in the forum before making a first purchase.  Now, I've gotten loose stones, refurbished settings, custom pieces, and stock work all from DBL, and I'm a real minor player on David's customer list.

If too many are off with family today, check out Show Off Your Jewels.  You can see there who are the big DBL purchasers, and exactly WHY that might be.  There are reasons why so many are repeat customers, and it ain't the trade-up policy, although that's nice, too.  Evil

So true!  The jewelery is wonderful here and the service is fabulous!  I cannot imagine going anywhere else for fine jewelery at all!

I admit I lurked around for a *long* time (talking over a year or more) before I posted and then it took a few months for me to get the money to purchase.  But by the time I did I felt very comfortable here especially after spending time talking and dealing with other jewelers.

I like the feel of this place and the honesty here.  I also love that just because you love one thing and others love another, they don't put you down or make you feel bad.  I think that's why I love this forum in particular.  So many diverse people with all types of items and we all seem to get along wonderfully Smiley

Well yay on the final answer!  I think you chose well!  My personal sweet spot for coloreless is G and above and this one looks very white to me.  That ring is to die for.  Are you doing a wedding band with the ring too?  Not that it needs one, it is so beautiful!

We had a smaller wedding and I don't regret it at all.  In fact it was my total choice and we went for a bigger honeymoon too.  So I think you chose well.  Though in our case there wasn't a beautiful ring like that until we were married almost 10 years, so I'm a bit jealous  Grin

Don't be nervous as I am sure that it will look stunning together.  Are you bezel setting or prong setting the main stone?

Sorry for all the questions but I love hearing about everything Smiley

So its bezel set . And I am trying to figure out how to have a custom band made to fit to ring tight. Any ideas?

Hello and welcome!
Now that is an amazing choice - you have excellent taste!

Bands can be custom made to hug the contours of your engagement ring, like this:
http://rockdiamond.c...ink-goldpink-diamond

or this:
http://rockdiamond.c...it-your-3-stone-ring

Before you order a custom version though, I'd try it on with some plain and straight bands, just to be sure you want one that's more fitted. I really like the look of a gorgeous blingy engagement ring with a narrower wedding band, like this (and you can go with any colour of diamond here):
http://rockdiamond.c...gold-yellow-diamonds

Whatever you fancy, it will look amazing with that ring - congrats!

Is there such a setting for a band that the curved portion on the ring sits/lays under the center stone frame instead of on the side of it?

Welcome to the forum!  I'm glad you found your dream ring.  Smiley  It's going to be beautiful!

As far as the wedding band goes, I might wait until you have the ring in hand and can try some things on.  If you want to spend the money for custom work, I'm positive you could have a lovely snug fitting band made.  Another option would be a standard curved band - it would still curve and would cost less since it's not custom.  A third option would ba a straight band.  You might be surprised how little you mind the gap... I love the versatility of being able to wear a straight band without my engagement ring if I'm doing something a little more rough with my hands.

Ah2bqat was going to go with the custom band to go with her blue baby, but she decided on the standard curved band, and it looks fantastic!

Oh, and I married my highschool sweetheart.   Smiley

I agree that you should wait until you get the ring before you decide if you are unsure of what you want.  I personally like having a straight band to wear alone at times, though I rarely go out without my diamond now if I have my anniversary band on.

I personally am not big into gaps, but every person is different.  Many love it and love how it looks like you have two rings on the whole time.

But I cannot wait to see the final product on this one  and whatever band you may decde on Grin

Welcome and CONGRATULATIONS! I am excited for you and your re-found fiancé.  boobban

I love the setting you've chosen; it is one of my very favorites. As far as a matching band goes, Mrs. M. linked to some great choices. I wore a deco-esque emerald cut diamond and sapphire ring alongside a curved band for many years. It was not a perfectly flush fit, as are some of the bands Mrs. M linked to,however, mine was a custom piece and close enough.

An issue worth mentioning regarding an UNFITTED band choice is that over time, there WILL be wear on the ring surfaces due to the two rings sliding against one another. Without a custom fit, the only option to eliminate the surface rubbing is to fuse your engagement ring to your band, or, to make a double band that is connected at the bottom with room for your ER to slide into the center of the piece.

David does stock some beautiful rings that are made to carry their center stones over a band, or bands, however, the look is quite different (especially from the side).

I am sure David can help you find the perfect solution.

So glad you've joined us!

Maybe there's a way to engineer it so that it's a floating halo and that way, a band will tuck up right underneath.  Pink diamond halos are gorgeous.  You'll love it.

I might just do a curved band and not worry if it sits exactly flush.
I would be sooooo excited if I were you!
