Hi everyone! I found this website while I was researching Old Miner and Old European cut diamonds and really enjoyed looking at everyone's jewels.
My story is that DH and I were out to lunch a few weeks ago and decided to stop in a pawn shop next to the restaurant. This was my second time in but first time really looking at their jewelry. I was focusing more on solitaires and vintage styles but while I was having fun trying on the different sparklies, my eyes kept being drawn to this one ring in particular. Once I had tried it on, the saleslady told me it has an antique Old Miner cut and 2 modern brilliants on both sides. I think that was the moment I got excited however, I'm notorious for falling into lust with a ring then deciding a day or two later I didn't want it. DH promised to upgrade my rings about 5 years ago so he's seen me completely lose interest in lots of rings. However, when I headed back to work, DH stashed the ring on layaway just in case. And boy, did he do good! The more I researched the cut, the more I fell in love. Of course, when I told him about my research and that I really, really wanted it, he left me dangling for a couple days. He didn't make it to the shop before they closed at 5 or he had forgotten or he had another errand to run. I was feeling a bit disappointed that Friday as we headed to a local buffet place for dinner. When I headed back to our table with my plate, he whipped out a little red box and ohhhhh how that stone sparkled in the dim lighting!  I'll post a picture once I figure out how to get the size right.

Here she is. Pictures were taken under yellow light with an iPhone so she really shows up looking yellow. When seen with the naked eye (and probably in sunlight - I'll try getting those pictures tomorrow), she looks much whiter.
The local jeweler I took her to says she's a J colored .45c Old European cut flanked by 3 point Old Miners. I'm not entirely sure he knows what he is talking about though because the culets are intact on the points I can see through the setting on the side stones. However, the tables are not uniform sizes nor are they centered so they might be.
I just love knowing these stones have a history and maybe a couple generations of women have gotten to wear them. I hope they were married to the loves of their lives.

Welcome, Dovesgate!

I really like the side view of your new find; it's so incredibly Deco. Think Chrysler Building or GE Building, and you can easily see that the same lines are at work there.

Welcome!

Old cuts are so very pretty!  Your ring is no exception... that setting is stunning too!  I really think the cuts of old are so unique.  Admittedly they are the only larger round I am personally willing to buy for myself.

Enjoy your new ring and I hope you stick around Smiley

Welcome, DovesGate.  Your ring is lovely - I've been admiring the profile shot.  Very deco.  Please post more day light pics, and any other jewelry photos.

Hi Dovesgate!  Welcome and thanks for sharing your story.  I adore pawn shops, but my DH won't go near them.  That's a beautiful ring you've found with a killer setting.  Can't wait to see her in the bright sun!

No daylight pictures for a little bit - she has had to go to the jeweler to have her center prongs rebuilt.  Cry
