Hi, I'm Dot!  Nice to meet you all.  Technically my first post was a few weeks ago asking if DBL had a layaway plan.  Little did I know that my darling husband would surprise me this past weekend (our wedding anniversary was September 26th) by telling me he been putting money aside and I could go ahead and pick out my ring no need to wait!  I am married to the most wonderful man on earth.  Not only is he buying me a diamond for our anniversary but it's from DBL AND I get to pick it out.

But here is my problem.  I'm so indecisive.  I want it to be perfect.  Please feel free to comment and let me know you think.  I've seen all your wonderful commentary and opinions.  I don't want to rush and randomly pick something.  I'm thinking I might wait a bit and see what new diamonds come in over the next month or so just to be sure.

This diamond is perfection, except I prefect a pear to a marquise.  This marquise would have to be set east to west.

Kind of like this but it is sold

I love this Daussi but I'm not sure about the color with it being an M and the Daussi cut.  It looks almost a pale yellow due to size but there is no yellow gold to play it up.  Opinions on how this ring will look in person?  Does anyone have an M colored stone?  I really love this  ring, it's so lovely.

This ring is sold but I think it is just breathtaking

This would be divine with white diamonds.  White double baguettes or a halo?

Hey Dot! Great to have you join us. Nice gift - I much, much prefer to pick out my own diamonds. Not something I'd leave to someone else!  Wink
I can't tell you which one to pick (all of them!!) but I can tell you what I think about them, for what it's worth.

The asscher halo - that can be made for you, David can always source gorgeous asscher cuts, no problem. I love that style and I don't think I ever saw one here that didn't turn out looking exquisite. Take a look around the semi-mounts page, there are some newer halo styles available too (although this one is classic and beautiful and hard to beat).

I really like the long oval - I've always liked that stone. Personally, I would think about an East-West setting with a halo for that one (I think about that a lot, actually...)

The Daussi - I really do like that colour and I had an M pendant that I traded up a few years back. I enjoyed the warmth, it was a lemony, antique white and really pretty. Have to say though, if you're looking for a WHITE stone, there are probably others that will make you happier. If you enjoy warmer colours, then this one would be really hard to beat, I think. I love it, personally.

It's a really nice marquise, I agree that it's perfection! Another one I love (are we going to have to fight over some of these stones?! Evil). I too would set that one East-West, but do consider a pear, if that's where your heart lies. I have trouble picking just one shape, there's something about most of them that appeals to me. So hard to narrow it down sometimes.

hello  Hi, Dot.  Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your anniversary (and for having a husband saavy enough to let you choose something from DBL).  It's always a dilemma when there is a real choice to be made, and I really am not the person best suited to help you.  Never seen any of those items IRL, but I do appreciate the compliment.  That lovely little pear is my beloved bluejay.  It's probably going to take me at least another year to get the rest of the stones together and have her set.  She's headed for a 3 stone pendant, and probably on a DBTY chain.

Hopefully Trink or OMC or shiba or the WebMistress will pop in later.  They've all seen many of David's rings and unset stones.

My best advice is...if you really want a pear, call David.  He can probably find you exactly what you want if he doesn't have it currently in stock.

Otherwise, enjoy the sites (pun intended), and welcome aboard.  We hope you'll continue to share your dreams and dilemmas with us.  Face it, if we're not in a buying position at the moment, the next best thing is to watch a friend do it.

It is really hard to say which to pick to someone since we all have different tastes.

I love the asscher halo look.  Absolutely beautiful.  I was considering that for a while myself, but I decided in the end on a radiant cut for myself.  Leaning towards a halo but I keep changing my mind.

I'm not huge into marquise, but I do love a strong blue stone.  They are just wicked cool!

I really like that Daussi a lot as well.  I love the warm colored stones myself but if you are unsure of the color I would spend time looking at stones of that color.  See if you can decide.

The oval though?  OMG, I am not a fan of ovals but I soooo love this stone.  The color is just amazing and I think the cut is beautiful and a bit unique.  Like Jen I see it E-W set.

I will say if you have your heart set on something and you don't see exactly what you want, ask David.  He's good at finding what you want Smiley

Jen I never even considered setting that honey oval E/W.  The marquise absolutely but not oval.  This is exactly why its so good to ask other opinions on these things and get fresh perspectives.  And that asscher halo would be adorable if remade with pink gold prongs or a pink bezel to give the diamond a pinkish cast.  There is an emerald ring set that way but it's a bit out my price range.

ab2bqat, the blue pear is your stone?!  Oh I'm ever so happily jealous for you!  I cannot wait to see the finished piece!  I do hope you post picture of the other acquired stones and progress as it happens.  I have been thinking about calling David about tracking down a pear exactly like yours as a matter of fact.  But I'm not positive yet so I don't want to set him to the trouble unless I'm one hundred percent sure that's the stone I want.  There are other styles that have caught my eye, like that door knocker daussi, the honey oval, the marquise twin to your pear, and the asscher set in the pink halo.  So many options.

clgwli, we must have the same taste.  I am not a fan of marquise stones, at all.  Period.  But, this stone has such a strong blue to it and it's such a plumpy fellow.  the asscher halo again, I've always loved asschers, I can never decide if I like the mirror flashes of asschers and emeralds better or the glitter and sparkle of the other cuts, rounds, pears, radiants, ovals.

I admit a squat or plumpy little marquise is a lot better looking to me than a long and thin one.  Though the first natual colored diamond I saw and loved was a gray marquise.  It was awesome!  But in general they aren't me.  I even wore one for a while trying to mimic my mom's engagment ring, and I realized I just didn't love them.

It's funny though I get so torn between the sparklies and the broad flashes too.  I decided for color I seem to like the sparkly look better.  For colorless stones I prefer chunky & broad flashes.  So if I got an asscher cut, it would be a high color and probably either in a solitaire or set alone.  I still have an idea that some day when I get lots of money to spend, I'll do kite set ascchers set in leverback earrings.  I think for the ears I would love the broad flashes.

I eventually decided on the cut for my ring by trying on tons of stones (colored or not).  It took me a *long* time to figure it all out!

Welcome, Dot! Wave

I love the asscher with the pink  halo.  It's elegant and girly all in one.  Plus, the fact that the halo is raised will allow your wedding band to scooch in under it.  The other posters are right: if there's a stone or ring you really like, David can find it and make it for you.  The anticipation may kill you, but it's worth the wait to get your dream ring.

Pears are very elegant and graceful.  Why not a pear set with a traditional prong halo (not bead set)?  I stare at my pear RHR when I'm in bright sunlight because I like the facet patterning and crushed ice. Check out my fruit craving post for a look at her.

The M colored stone will look yellowish in certain lighting, but will look whiter in others due to the flourescence.

There are alot of options available to you from DBL, and if it's not available, he can have it made.

Anyway, welcome to the forum, and keep us posted!

You can't go wrong with the halo setting with the surprise diamond.  It's absolutely gorgeous!  I've got one with a fancy light yellow radiant, and I never tire looking at it.  Let us know what you decide to do and if you need some more help.  You can always count on us for encouragement (enabling)!

Kite set asschers!  That would be lovely!

Maria I checked out your pear and it is to die for!  It covers quite a bit of real estate for a 2ct!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be going with a custom piece.  I've got a few ideas now.  I'm moving them over to the About the rings we offer area.

I love halos but there are so many different styles to choose from.  Oh and surprise diamonds, I love the little ones that get set on the bottom of the ring when the shank is kinda flared and flat/squared on the bottom.  Maybe I explained that wrong.  Oh Well.
