Hi everyone, I've been lurking at DBL for almost 2 years now, and emailed David a couple times and thought I should finally say hello! My name is Allison, but Saori is my middle name so you can go with that too if you like (it's Japanese and means weaver of silk).  I live in Lafayette, LA after moving here a year ago with my husband (he's from the area, and half Cajun) who is starting up his own law office.  I'm originally from Ann Arbor, MI though, and I miss it a lot.

I have met many jewelers who are unfriendly and untrustworthy and after emailing with David I am sure that he is one of the most straightforward, honest, and delightful jewelers I have ever met! He clearly has a passion for his work, and I have learned so much from reading the DBL website and his posts. He's drawn me into the world of colored diamonds!

I long for the day when I have some DBL to call my own, but in the meantime I'm working on getting my mother-in-law to upgrade her sparklies, so I get an excuse to check the website everyday.   Grin

Sorry if i'm oversharing on my first post, I've never joined any forums before.

Hi, Allison!  We're so glad you've come out of the lurk.  Welcome, and join in the fun!  You've been around much longer than I, so no need to tout the great group that meets here.  hello

PS. Saori is a beautiful name.

Hi Allison, welcome!

We have a bunch of wonderful enablers here.  Grin You'll have your DBL piece earlier than you think.

A couple of friends moved from Ann Arbor to Belgium last year, and every time we meet them they tell us they miss it too, so you aren't alone...

Nice to 'meet' you, glad you've decided to join us.

What sort of things are you and your MIL interested in? Coloured diamonds, maybe?

Hi Jen,
My MIL wants to upgrade her wedding ring and is looking for a 1-2 Carat yellow diamond,  radiant , something like that. i have to read how to insert pics, but she really loves both ITEM #R3089 and ITEM #: R2795.  i'm sorta being her personal shopper and am definitely steering her towards things i like.  but truthfully i love blue and green diamonds best.  a few months ago david posted that 1.16 green yellow vvs2 pear diamond and, though we have absolutely no money right now i almost convinced my husband i very much needed it.  someone snapped it up in literally days though, all for the best i suppose.
thanks everyone for saying hello, i'm very happy to finally talk with you guys.

Welcome Allison!  I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as over sharing here.    Wink  It's great to get to know new members.

From the item numbers you posted, it's clear that we have similar taste.  If you don't mind, I'll post the photos:

The amazing R3089:

And the beautiful R2795:

Hi Allison,
well, I'm blushing.
Thank you so much for sharing!

We just got a really cool new sparkly, which I'll post here to celebrate your posting!

Something very cool about this guy? ( well besides the fact it's such a lovely stone to begin with)
GIA calls it a "Round Cornered Square Modified Brilliant"
Kind of a contradictory term right?

No doubt about the stone though

Thanks David!  How cool, posted in my honor yay! I love it!
In other news, I was visiting my father in Albuquerque, NM a few weeks ago and saw a really interesting horse head diamond ring in a pawn shop. The owner didn't even know it was a horse head, he thought it was just a "weirdly" shaped diamond. Since I came home I've been thinking about the ring, it's kind of an ugly old thing, but the diamond is pretty cool. The ring is solid 14k, the owner listed the diamond as 3/4 ct, but i think it's more like .6 or so.  Anyhow, I'll post some pictures for you guys if I get it, if I do I might send it up to David to have it reset and so that he can tell me what he thinks of the stone.
Thanks everyone for saying hello back at me.   rock

Allison, I love your / your MIL's choices!
That's a fantastic stone that David posted, for sure. It would look amazing in the lovely split shank setting!

Personal shopping in this context is a lot of fun, glad we get to play along with you.

That's such a pretty stone!  Definitely fits its "round-cornered" moniker.  How will it be set - any idea?

Hi Allison, I'm so happy you've retired your Lurkdom Cloak! Thanks for stepping out and joining us. And, what a blast, "personal shopper" of colored diamonds! I'm sure both you and your MIL will have a blast shopping.

Regarding missing-out on ANY of the sparklies that David posts, never fear, there will ALWAYS be another diamond to take your breath away. Trust me!

Meanwhile, your MIL has chosen two lovely pieces. I'd love to get my mitts on both – hehe. Interesting choices – one ring is a piece of contrasting color, shape and volume, the other, a mellow melding of one hue. I was lucky to see another all-yellow, three-stone ring at David's office once – it was an absolute masterpiece of gorgeous honeyed gold. Can't go wrong either way.  Wink

And we love seeing them, too.  It's the next best thing to playing in a really cool jewellry box that isn't your own.  I'm still rolling all over those opal pix or yours.  Some of those gels are so deep and have such glorious colors; but the turtle really does it for me.  Call me silly, but he's absorbable!

ah2bqat you are so cute, i love mr. turtle to death too.  i want to display him someplace, but don't have any shadow boxes or display cases, so i keep him safe in my jewelry box.
i have other loose opals that i got from my dad, i want to get custom pieces made one day when we have money.  he was telling me that the mexican opals that we have are becoming harder to find, i don't know if that's true or not, i just know that the kind of opals in most jewelry stores are different than the ones from my grandparents.
i can take some pics of the loose ones later...
