Hi all,
I am new to the forum. Have actually been reading posts for about a month now and decided to introduce myself. My name is Dee...I am currently looking on the site for an engagement ring. Yes, this will be my first (and only) engagement and I want the ring to be perfect, duh? So, I found David and all of you, and Mr. Wonderful told me to pick it out, so here I am. Would love to hear about your experiences with DBL...my biggest problem right now is deciding between colorless and a colored (yellow) stone. Any ideas? BTW...we are both in our 30's, so we are shopping for a more mature look...I don't want the traditional jewelry store ring.
Thanks!

Hello Dee, welcome to CDI!

About six months ago, I was roughly in your situation, and I decided to trust David with a couple of rings (one my fiancée and I chose together, and a small surprise). Both rings were custom made to extremely high standards, starting from the stones to the craftmanship of the metalwork. I have been collecting jewellery for about 10 years, including some pieces from pretty well known names, and I can assure you the attention to detail that David puts into his pieces is absolutely second to none. In addition, David is unfailingly attentive, responds to emails quickly (even when he's getting married himself) and is always willing to spend time talking through the most silly questions you can come up with.

Re: fancy colour vs. colourless - we wanted fancy colour, and that was the key reason we found DBL. It certainly is not traditional, and it does add another variable to what can be already a difficult choice, since I believe intense/vivid colours and lighter colours can both work well but require rather different settings/styles of jewellery.

How about mixing coloured and colourless stones like this:

or its inverse:

these two are among my favourites - and retain enough of the "traditional" feel while being original (and a few orders of magnitude better than a ready-made jewelry store setting).

Whatever you decide, keep us posted - you'll get to hear from others, but we are all photo addicts!

Best of luck

Welcome to CDI Dee!

There are so many rings to choose from! I too had a hard time making up my mind when I purchased my ring  Huh? Ultimately I chose colored diamonds for my ER and white diamonds for my wedding band.

All I can say is if you love the pictures online, you'll love the ring even more in person! Good Luck!

I couldn't say it any better myself!

Hi Dee and welcome!!!

All I can add is that you've come to the right place. Tastes do change as we mature but the fact you found DBL and everyone here to help bounce ideas off is as close to a quarantee that you will  find anywhere. I personally have no doubt that you'll find a classic design which doesn't scream run-of-the-mill jewelry store ring.

Here's two that I have always liked:

and if you want color, I am a huge fan of the brown sides...

All the best,
djm

Welcome and congratulations on your impending engagement. Such an exciting time and even more exciting when you get to choose your dream ring.
I`m not going to offer suggestions because there are so many to choose from but I`m sure a certain ring or loose stone/s and mount will shout out to you.
I`d spend a long time looking at the You tube movies which David posts with almost every item and see which ones I keep returning to. Rest assured if it looks fabulous in the You tube, then it will look twice as fabulous in reality.
David won`t rest until you`re 100% satisfied with your choice and if anybody can create the ring you want, then it`s him. He`s a man who sure knows his diamonds !
Hopefully you`ll show us whichever one you choose and allow us to share the happiness of your engagement.

Hello ezellad,

I understand your dilemma re:  yellow or colorless.

The dilemma for me was more about the color of band, gold or platinum, primarily b/c I was thinking only in colorless stone. I always had gold, but I really liked the platinum which would seem to clash potentially w/ my current jewerly.

THEN, I discovered yellow diamonds.  Another dilemma.  For me however, I solved all problems w/ David's yellow center/white side stones set in platinum.  I had the platinum and gold (around the yellow diamond) as well as the combination of colorless and yellow stones.

Then you need to top that off with one of David's curved bands, check them out!!

Good luck and happy deciding!

I know it's tough but once you decide, it'll be worth it.  Just a bit of time involved to decide, along with agonzing, pondering and thought provoking processes.  One thing for sure, it'll demonstrate who 'you' are and what you like.

Hi Dee! Nice to have you here. Congratulations on your coming engagement - what an exciting time.

You will find a beautiful ring here and it will last for a lifetime, looking as good as the day you first open the box. David's pieces are every bit as good as everyone says!

I'd be tempted to go for a colourless stone for an engagement ring and if you want to add colour later, maybe have a look at the pink and yellow bands? I think that will give you the best of both worlds, a classic, timeless ring that will never date and you'll never tire of, as well as a bit of punchy colour to liven it up when you want to.  I believe they can be made to fit round your engagement ring too.

Plus, you can always get a coloured diamond ring for a future occasion, say an anniversary or whatever. Again, best of both worlds!  Grin

Looking forward to seeing what you pick out.

Hi all...well, I found a stone. I decided on a light yellow (I prefer these to the darker, sunshine ones...but also wanted more bang for my buck). The stone is R2641...it is a beautiful radiant cut...I like the more square cuts. I am so excited! David and I are in the process now of working on my setting...I have it in my head and I know he can replicate it even more beautifully than I am envisioning it!

Thanks for everyones advice on the ring. I am not the traditional bride and I didn't want the traditional ring, so I chose a colored stone. The setting will be more "traditional" but timeless...I can't wait to show you all the finished product!

Thanks again!

BTW for some reason there is not a SOLD sign next to the stone...I may have to speak to David about that one   Huh?

Beautiful diamond! It's a wonderful lemony colour. I like it a lot and it will make a very fine looking ring!

Any idea when you'll have it on your finger? I can't wait to see the setting you picked out.

He'll mark it sold if he hasn't already. If not, he'll ask me to. We're often a little late marking them sold as it just gets busy.

I love that stone. And we don't do "standard issue". We cater to those who want something out of the ordinary. You take that diamond and put it in a lucida style you still have something extraordinary since so few have a colored diamond.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Well, the ring is in production now...the wait is killing me! I have asked David if he will take some pics with his fancy camera when the ring is complete so I can share them with you all here.

I doubt he will ever agree to work with me again because I know that I have seriously driven him up the wall with the questions and back and forth...but maybe after the initial purchase, I will be more relaxed? Doubtful...I am a stresser! But he has been great! Cannot wait till the ring is on my finger and the proposal official! I'll be sure to post details and pics.

Thanks again to everyone on the forum and at DBL, you guys are wonderful!

ezellad- you're awesome!
We'll be thrilled ANYTIME you call.

We understand how important the rings we make are to people...how many times do people get engaged?
All right, so maybe some people get engaged multiple times., but that makes no difference.

EVERY ring we make is going to our most important client.

We've had people ask tons more questions than you- and we still love them too!
