Brown diamonds can sometimes look pink(ish)
« on: March 22, 2018, 05:26:34 PM »
Hi all!
When a cutter brought this stone over the other day, he was smiling.
"I know you're going to love this one Dave"
My first glance showed what looked like a peach-colored diamond!

The thing about brown in diamonds......it takes so many different iterations.
In this case, GIA called the diamond "W-X, Light Brown"
As you can see, it's got other things going on.....

Well crap, that stone is stunning!!!!!!

Fantastic deal for the size too.  If only it sticks around long enough for me to get it LOL  I'd seriously just set that in a simple solitaire (all rose gold) and let it shine on its own.

So, what we are looking at here are stones that are accidentally pink, in most cases due to light brown.
Very occasionally, this light brown seems to mimic pink.

As promised, here's the next interesting brown.

In this case, GIA didn't identify anything other than J color.
The pink I see is so very faint- sometimes the stone just looks white.
GIA noted internal graining- and you can see that in the pictures.
But based on the way it's cut- just like a Faint Pink, you get a total sparkle sort of light performance.
That means you can't see the graining in person.
Also no bowtie whatsoever.

The stone should be hitting the site tomorrow.

That must be terribly inconvenient, especially when they all want to get out at the same time.

Well, we never do anything at all that might hurt the little bunnies OMC:)

Another interesting aspect is stones that the cutter thinks they might get faint pink- but they get F

Right?
Here's another example:

If you think about it, stones like the one below- graded "faint Pink" by GIA, are almost white
