Argyles are in! What shape do you want FIPUP VS!!!
« on: June 24, 2014, 09:05:21 PM »
Hi Everyone!
Let's talk about Argyle pink Diamonds.
IMO, Rio Tinto- has done an amazing job of combining a beautiful natural phenomenon (the diamonds coming out of the Argyle mine) with incredibly savvy diamond marketing.

They are indeed considered some of the brightest, most desirable pinks in the world.
Pink diamond are found in several areas in the world besides Australia- such as Brazil and South Africa.
But when it comes to Intense Pink or Intense Purple Pink Argyle is the bomb- purest color.

The five stones above all have Argyle Paperwork- they are laser inscribed with their unique ID number.
The four on the left also have GIA reports.
Actually they are a unique collection.
All four are GIA graded
Fancy Intense Purplish Pink

As if that wasn't enough- all four are VS2!!
That puts them in the stratosphere of Intense Pink ( Purpleish Pink) diamonds- as most are somewhat imperfect

I'd love the heart but no doubt it's in the stratospheric price range!

Hi All!!
More info here...
Let's start with the Argyle Paperwork.
Each stone comes with a spiffy folder.
The cover

Inside:

The part where you can see the info for the particular diamond:

Remove the paper from inside that perforated part:

Let's look at the info for the stone
Argyle rates the stone SI1, 6P
That equates to about Fancy Pink
Argyle scale:
1 most intense
10 least Intense
Interestingly this is opposite from the scale for browns where C1 is least intense and C7 most intense.
PP=Purplish Pink
P= Pink

Here's the GIA report:

As we can see their opinion differs significantly from Argyle.
Why?
Argyle is not a lab- so their assessments are generally not used for grading- rather provenance.
When a GIA report exits, it takes precedence with regards to grading.
In this particular case, I might agree with Argyle on color. It's very strong color- at the border of Fancy - and Fancy Intense.
The stone, lovely as it is, is the lightest of the bunch.
And possibly the least purple as well.
The color is remarkable pure and bright regardless.
I do agree with GIA on the VS2 clarity. Argyle rated is SI1

Next is this guy

In this case, Argyle and GIA are pretty much the same on color.
There's a stark contrast in clarity grades.
Objectively- it's a very lucky VS2- I might have given it SI1- not that it matters what I think- just ask my wife:)

The color is, well, remarkable- nowhere near the border between, Fancy Intense and Fancy- way up to the vivid range

I was not so taken by the round...it was kind of dull- very imperfect. So we made a deal giving us the 4 VS stones.....

Well, I was fortunate to be in David's office Wednesday and got to see these beauties. They really are gorgeous!!  But I am surprised that you're selling them as a group, David. I'd think they'd sell quite quickly as separate diamonds. I don't see how they work together as a set-IMHO.

Gypsy set the group into a band, either alone or mixed with some high whites. If you really wanted to be neurotic about it, you could find/cut a matching set of colorless stones to "mirror" each one.

We will be listing them soon and individually as well.  I wish I could afford one of these beauties really but I got bit by the scooter bug and money went there first  ;D

Bracelet/bangle with more fancy shapes in white, yellow and other colours

It was great to finally met you Jpup!!

My thought was a "collection" for a collector.
But Squig already put me straight.
Besides I'd love to see these guys make it into some sort of jewelry and be worn....
I love Trink's idea of a "mirror image" type of setup....

Of course OMB would suggest something ...classy.
The man has style.

Haha, OMC! My first thought had been a cuff, with these set, perhaps, gypsy style. Then I worried they might not be noticed, so I swapped my idea to a band. I like your bracelet/bangle idea with other diamonds. I'm thinking too, if someone REALLY wanted to go at it, maybe he/she could create a cluster ring or pendant, either just white and pink, or all mixed colors (or find more pink, hehe). Also, I'd considered a one-of-a-kind band made from uniquely-shaped bezel-set stones. But again, it would be quite a dainty piece.

PS: I wrote this hours ago, then forgot to post it when life went haywire here! No time to rewrite now so I'm posting after D, although I wrote this before his post. Sorry.
