How to Wear a Pear
« on: August 23, 2012, 02:32:50 PM »
I am officially committed to having a pear shaped ring.  But my question is:  which way does it point?

Is it just personal preference?

It definitely is about preference.  I know a few ladies who have pear rings and I've seen them being worn both ways.  So whichever you like is what is "right" ;D

I always wore mine with the point down, my own personal preference.

It is a matter of personal preference.  I prefer looking at the teardrop shape when I look at it (which is the most important thing in a RHR, OK, heck, even an ER).  Also, if you think about it, if it's an ER, the WB goes on first, then the ER.  In that case, he band would only need to be contoured to accommodate the part of the setting for the chubby end of the pear.  If it goes on the other way, you'd need a very significant notch in the WB.  It's just an observation.  I'm going to wear my pear today :-).  Did I ever say that I love pears?

This is totally dependent on the setting you choose.  Both pear solitaires I have seen on my local friends (very simple) do not require notched or contoured bands.  Both pears are set a bit higher, but it allows a band to sit flush next to it.   Of course not everyone likes flush bands and quite a few people pick rings with "donuts" on the bottom to keep a gap.  Allows rings to have more distance and cause less scratching.  I have seen quite a few sets that are custom made for pears as well and sometimes the notch for the pointy part is not that big, much like a marquise setting (which my mom wore and her band was only slightly notched).

So even with that aspect there is no right or wrong - again total personal preference :)

O no. After reading this, I'm feeling less committed. I'm one if those people that would way over think this.

I might just be a pear appreciator!

I am going to wear my pear today, too!  I love pears - such a big look for the price.  And I wear my pear with the point towards my fingernail.  I've tried wearing them the other way, but quickly change it.  Go figure.

Aw, don't over think! Wear it which ever way pleases you most. There is absolutely no consensus on this one, so it isn't like you can be wrong.

Seriously, when I tried on a pear for a handshot, David had me turn it the other way (or as I called it, upside down  ;D). Everyone has a different view on this one, there's no right and wrong here, at all. You might find that over time you develop a strong preference, related to what feels most comfortable on your hand, but if not, switch it to suit your mood.  ;)

Thanks guys!
I've always loved pear shapes myself.
I like diamonds- and other artistic things- where there's no right and wrong. They allow more freedom of thought and expression.

Well considering the number of times of I've viewed it over the last 24 hours, I think I'm sold.  I drool over R4605 and R4438.  This one is a perfect compromise -- that's in budget.   ;)

If it's still here 9/16, it's MINE!

I really love the soft yellow color on this one.

The ring is a trade in- hence the special price. The ring looks brand new.

WOW!  That is so pretty, David.  So the semi mount was traded up and used with the pear from the site?

If it was in my budget...

Can I just add, while pave is by it's nature somewhat delicate, some is more delicate than others. I wear my Hal1 setting an awful lot, and I'm clumsy. I always mean to take it off to do heavy lifting, but I never remember and it still looks like it was made yesterday. It is as robust as it is possible for a pave ring to be, I'd say. And beautiful.

That's a personal favorite of mine!!!!  ;D

We have the split shank listed on DBL for $995.  Let me double check to make sure that the single shank version would be the same price.  I should know off the top of my head but I am a bit sleepy today as my flight came in very late last night (4.5 hours late to be exact) so I'm obviously not entirely awake today.
