Colored Diamonds / Re: Auction prices
« Last post by Diamondsbylauren on July 21, 2016, 12:54:03 PM »
Hi!

In general: Auction prices are not all that useful because the price paid may be artificially high or low based on a variety of factors.
From my perspective, consumers can simply shop on many different sites to get a rounded idea of prices.

White/Colorless Diamonds / Diamond prices

Hi
I came across this interesting Website that reports prices of important diamonds and gemstones sold at auctions. The site states that jewellery appraisers are using it for better valuation. Are auction prices, when compared, a good indication of the market value of diamonds?

Thanks.

Show off Your Jewels / Re: I don't know what is this..?

It's a ring in burnished metal (white?) with a blue to purple stone in it. That I think is as much as can be ascertained relatively certainly from the photos.

As to what the stone is, it could be a sapphire (natural or synthetic) or a tanzanite - or quite a few other things.

I can't understand what the last two pictures are; they are clearly hugely magnified, but they seem the metal from the ring rather than anything else.

The answer to many ID questions can be found much more simply and reliably by bringing the ring to a gemmologist (or a knowldgeable jeweler).

Hi Bum,
I guess it certainly could be an irradiated diamond.
Value in such a case would be about $500-$1000 per carat...... a used setting maybe $500+-

Total ballpark, from another bum:)

I also don't own this pawn shop. Just work there. I bought it from there. And I don't really plan on selling it. ( unless my girlfriend hates it) I just wanted to see if colored diamonds like this were worth getting insured and what not.
