I recently inherited this gold piece from my grand mother and was wondering if anyone might have a idea of where the place is that's on it? I am looking to sell the gold piece. I know if I have some history behind it I could get more for it.

Interesting!

Can you get a picture of the trademark?

What does the piece weigh? And how big is it?

I don't have anything to weigh it but it is heavy holding it. Here are better pics. I didn't have my other camera handy last post.

The architecture and columns look Greek to me.  Is it a temple in Greece somewhere?  Doesn't look like the Parthenon but I could be wrong!

Dont mean to spam question here  Cool but does anyone know who I might be ale to take it to and have it looked at? I notice Antique dealers like to rip you off (maybe not all) one sure got my mom buying  some of my grand mothers furniture. I talked my mom out of selling her one item, it's a barral table that was my moms great grand mothers. About early 1800's to mid 1800. The antque lady offered her300$ I seen a few online from 2000$ to 6500$. She gave the table to me instead.

Good save on the table!  Sorry I don't know any reputable neumismatic dealers, but David might.  There's got to be a few around the corner from the diamond district.  Think? Huh?

Hi sh3rry, I'm sorry to spoil the party, but I don't think it's antique, and I don't think it's gold...

If it's about the size of a CD, regardless of the age, if it were gold it would be a good few pounds in weight. And the design is decidedly modern, since it shows ruins of temples rather than showing them in good conditions as they would have been in antiquity.

At any rate, any jeweller who buys gold (no matter whether they offer a good price) will be able to acid test it and confirm whether it is gold or - as I suspect - brass.

i hear you about antique dealers......... i tried to sell 3 big boxes of oriental antiques that my dad left me. i had offers like $50.00 for the whole lot. i ended up selling one piece at a time and made $2800.00. i was only 22 at the time. i should probably have held onto it.......... Embarrassed

actually your right. It turns out it's bronze.  Roll Eyes and you right I didn't even think about the picture on it being ruiens. Thanks it's still a neat treasure for me though.  I moved on from that however  Grin I now found a homans "call of the sick" box.   Let me just show you a few pics... My mom almost gave it to the thrif store  tongue3 She didn't know it was in a box for them. I searched the boxes to make sure and found that and a lot of milk glass items.  This box is just so facinating me to me.  wow

That's a beautiful communion set, Sherri, if a trifle on the morbid side; since it can also be used for last rites.  Can you identify the 'special metal' used?  Is it pewter?

It looks there is a long story in it. If you know it one day, don't forget to share with us.

Whatever it is, it's probably silver plated, since the other mark reads "Quadruple Plate"; "Homan Silver Plate Co."

Unusual set, and the letter "endorsing the archbishop's words" from the manufacturer is interesting.
