This stone sooooo proves the point.
its not that a diamond with an EGL report is necessarily bad.
I happen to love this stone. Guess what EGL called it.....

I'll play...I think that EGL graded it as a fancy light, but it should have been graded as an O-P .   Grin  (am I close?)

I was thinking the same thing...they called it "fancy light" and it is more like an O-P!!!!

I'm going to go the other way - on my monitor, it looks O-P too, with a lovely warmth to the stone (nice cut, btw).

I'm going to guess they called it a K (or even a J if it was generosity day...) Grin

I am going to guess like Jen.  I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to pass this off as a J or something like that

I forgot to say I bet they'd grade it as a VS1 as well.  Should probably be Q-R SI1.

Very pretty stone. I'm with OMC at an H or I.  Cant' begin to hit clarity on my tiny screen.  Lovely warmth at M-N for real.

BTW- the bottom line here is that I love the stone- the price is very right.
I frirst graded the stone SI1, but I've revised my clarity grade down to SI2- but a very good SI2.

We can use it as an example of how far off some non GIA grading is- but that does not mean there's anything wrong with the stone itself.

What do you think it really is?  Looks like somewhere around ST or UV on my monitor.

Great guess Shiba- I'm sure you did not see what I write above.
I graded it S-T in color- but I try to err on the conservative side in these cases.
it might be a U-V.
Hard to say.
GIA might go O-P for all we know!

WOW!  These last photos show the color more and I would've guessed S-T or U-V with those.  I shouldn't be shocked at all, but this is about the worst grading I have ever seen out of them.

that's hilarious!  all the more reason I feel bad for people who just aren't educated enough to know the difference.  very nice stone btw, even better to know what it really is!  are you going to send it to gia to find out for sure?

It was hard to tell color with the close up first photo, but in the photo with the princess cut, the color is evident and I would have called it S-T ish as well.  It is a nice diamond.  PS - could use that report as cage liner for my lovebirds.

I'm afraid you can't. It's plastified, so it won't even serve that purpose.

Well - O-P would "only" be 6 (or 7, if the range counts as 2 grades) off. And S-T would be 8 (or 11). Which is about half the scale. So, in fact, I think I have an easier grading procedure for EGL. Lighter stone = H. Darker stone = O-P (or S-T if ranges count as two grades). This way the error will on never be larger than with this stone...

Sometimes being the "glass half empty" kinda chick that I am, is there any chance that someone found a certificate that matches the proportions of this diamond?  I'm just wonderin'. dontknow

...or, someone's master diamond set is, uh, dirty (see bottom of cert).

Is that an actual report or did someone fake the cert to try to get more money?  scared

(bad joke?)
