Hi All

I am just start learning about fancy color diamond.  I need some clarification about the way we read the color grading by GIA.  I understand that if they specify Fancy light grayish blue, blue will be the primary hue.   But what if it is said Fancy light gray-blue.  Is it 50/50 gray and blue?  What will be different with Fancy light blue-gray?

Thank you
Mae

Hi Mae,
Welcome to Cdi!

An "ish" at the end of a modifier means it's less prominent than without.
In other words, Fancy Grayish Blue is less grey than Fancy Grey Blue.

thank you that is what I thought.  How about fancy gray blue and fancy blue gray.  Is it the same?

In terms of price, not at all- if the primary color is blue, it's going to be a lot more expensive- but these colors can look similar in real life- so visual inspection is a must.
Here's a Natural Light Blue

Here's a Fancy Grey-Blue

The scale runs:

Gray
Bluish-gray
Blue-gray
Gray-blue
Grayish blue
Blue

(or replace any two other colours, with the curious exception of Orange where GIA uses orangy instead of orangish). In practice, telling the difference between B-G and G-B is difficult, and one stone may well be more attractive than another due to the precise hue and saturation of the colours involved, independent of the actual colour grade.

Hi , Mae!  Nothing to add of import from this end.  It truly is an eyeball and heart exercise.  If you can't see it yourself, make sure you have someone you trust do the looking for you.  OMC and David found my little greyish-blue, and I couldn't be happier with the color or the intensity.
