Lagerman selection of all colors and saturation of Fancy Colored Diamonds. I think it's really nice and funny. I hope not to have made a mistake to post here.  Smiley

Oops, sorry I saved it to my computer and opened it up in Photoshop to see if I could zoom in and it was actually a much larger file than what you saw here.

OMC was quicker than I was to put a link to a larger one up Cheesy

Thanks, OMC. hello

At a 400% magnification I could finally read them without squinting.  I didn't think they were so funny; but I know one site that actually uses this nomeclature to describe the melees that you can order, including steel and sky.

I get the idea of grading, but don't think my eye is quite refined enough to discern the subtle differences.   Undecided

I guess I should say I was more amused by some.  Like how many shades of Old Rose and Baby Pink there were.  In addition to all the food references.  I can't say I am shocked since I find myself using them too (things like honey or caramel) but it still makes me giggle a little.

Auburn is nothing like I'd imagine though.

Your little avatar could have posed for that pink picture.  It's gorgeous.  An Argyle?

It comes from Australia, but not certified Argyle. I think that this certificate is only given to the "Vivid Purplish-Pink" stones over a X weight.

The website where I took the photo sells posters in A1 and A3 formats. But I didn't write the link to avoid advertising  angel

Famous Fancy Colored Diamonds - from "The Splendor of Diamonds" by Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

1. THE STEINMETZ PINK

59.60 carats
South Africa
Loaned by The Steinmetz Group
This oval gem is internally flawless and is the largest vivid pink diamond known. Because of its significance, experts from The Steinmetz Group took 20 months to cut it. The diamond was just unveiled to the public on May 29 of this year at a ceremony in Monaco.

2. THE MOUSSAIEFF RED

5.11 carats
Brazil
Loaned by Moussaieff
Although this triangular diamond is smaller than others on display, its vivid red color is astounding. Deep red is among the rarest of diamond colors. Cut and polished from a 13.9-carat crystal discovered in the 1990s by a Brazilian farmer, this is the largest red diamond known.

3. THE HEART OF ETERNITY

27.64 carats
Premier mine, South Africa
Loaned by a private collector
This large, fancy vivid blue diamond was displayed together with The De Beers Millennium Star at London’s recent millennium celebrations. As with the Hope Diamond, the blue color comes from boron atoms trapped in the crystal structure.

4. THE ALLNATT

101.29 carats
De Beers mine, South Africa
Loaned by SIBA Corp.
Strongly colored diamonds weighing more than 100 carats are extremely rare, making this vivid yellow diamond truly exceptional. The color is the result of nitrogen atoms that replaced some of the crystal’s carbon atoms. The gem is named after its former British owner, Major Alfred Ernest Allnatt.

5. THE PUMPKIN DIAMOND

5.54 carats
South Africa
Loaned by Harry Winston, Inc.
This diamond is a rare example of a strong orange color. Most diamonds in this color range are noticeably brown. It was purchased by Harry Winston, Inc., in 1998, and was worn in a ring by film actress Halle Berry in 2002 when she received an Oscar for her role in Monster’s Ball

6. THE OCEAN DREAM

5.51 carats
Central Africa
Loaned by Cora Diamond Corp.
Most diamonds of this hue have been artificially colored in the laboratory. But this stunning diamond was colored naturally. Radiation in the Earth caused defects in the atomic structure that gave rise to the blue-green color. The gem’s strong color and large size are highly unusual.

7. THE BEERS MILLENNIUM STAR

203.04 carats
Democratic Republic of Congo
Loaned by DeBeers LV
Named for the recent passing of the millennium, this is the sixth-largest colorless, gem quality diamond ever discovered. The flawless, pear-shaped gem was cut by The Steinmetz Group over a period of three years from a 777-carat crystal discovered in the early 1990s.

Hi there, my name is Pinky and I am just thrilled about fancy diamonds. bunny

I am getting my 25th wedding anniversary ring made by DBL.  I am so excited in getting the sparkler on my finger.  I told David that I wanted to see fireworks coming from my diamond everytime I looked down at it (boom, kapow, ohhhh, ewww!)

My question is; where does the fancy light yellow diamond fall into the chart above?

I will be hanging around while the ring is getting made.  Then I want to write a little story about this process and the wonderment of diamonds.  It will start out as: Once upon a time...

Glad to meet you,

Pinky

Hey Pinky!  Welcome!

Don't want to ruin your story, but can you please, please, PLEASE give us a hint about what stone (or stones) or even the color of the stone(s) you are using?

David's factory crew is amazing, but even they can't produce it overnight and there are a number of us that are going to go flat buggy waiting to see what we can see.  (have you noticed that patience concerning goodies is not a strong characteristice among this crew?)

Welcome Pinky!  So glad to meet you!  And a big congratulations on your 25th wedding anniversary Smiley

I cannot wait to see what you are getting!

As for where a fancy light yellow diamond would fall, I assume you mean that huge poster above?  If so I'd guess somehwere around the Yellow Grade 5, but that is just a guess on my part.  I love stones in that range of color.  It's really a stunning shade and once set they look even more bright and amazing!

I have a stone that is slightly lighter (Y-Z color) and it gets confused all the time to be darker than it really is.  I admit I love yellows like FLY and the W-X and Y-Z range.  I don't know why but they are my absolute sweet spot for yellow colors.

I cannot wait to hear more!

Thank you for your welcoming words Smiley

I am getting the "Pink Lemonade".  A 0.71 radiant cut light yellow diamond is the center stone, she will be surrounded by little pink diamonds laying in 18K pink gold and the band is white gold with liittle colorless diamonds.  DBL was so creative to come up with a design like this.  I feel in love with it the first time I saw it.
