well, I have to confess that the emerald ring is mine. I seem to have gone the big and gaudy route in my middle age. I use to call rings like this old ladie rings, and to be honest, thats what it was. I bought  it from the old ladies son.  Grin i always wanted a ballerina ring, and I still haven't forgiven cherrypie for swipping that sam spade emerald ballerina ring from under my nose. I'll never let her live it down.  Evil

I'd say there is no such thing as too big. Only too big for my personal taste. Takes all sorts!

Have to say though, anything the size of that tourmaline would make a fabulous pendant.

I would totally wear a 17ct EC or asscher cut, should one ever appear in inventory for around the $2-4k mark. Happy with a warm colour, so long as it's eyeclean... Grin

Well you go, girl!  We don't do the theatre or opera and we don't entertain formally, so I'd still prefer it as a brooch;  but it is definitely a statement piece, and one to be proud of.  Now I'm jealous.  green tongue2

I'm sure my 2ctK will turn into a similarly large piece, when I quite spending dribs and save enough to have the http://rockdiamond.c...de-perfection-so2436 built for her.  Maybe by the time I'm 60. Grin

I hope you weren't offended by what I said.  For me it is too big and I couldn't ever pull it off.  But I always believe that taste is personal and just because one doesn't like it, doesn't mean it's bad.  It'd just not be for me.  The emerald is absolutely gorgeous though and I might have snatched it up just for the stone alone.

Now your Pear... I love that ring no doubt about it!

freakout  My goodness, I'd forgotten that is your pear!  They say memory is the second thing to go, when you start getting older, and I've forgotten the first!  Grin

I remember the days when I could do that, and DID!  That was 2 houses and 10 years ago, when we had a pool.  No chance of losing anything important, there!  And you're absolutely right, they will sparkle like crazy.

of course I'm not offended! I asked what you all thought, 'cause i was kind of curious what others would think. there was a time when subtle was more my style..... but not anymore. I like 'em big! or at least for cocktail rings. as for solitaires, I dunno.......... I would actually have to try on some to get an idea what I"d like. I know I would someday like a FY EC bigger than 2+ cts. if my budget was unlimited though who knows how big I would go.....  dontknow

Just saw this one, apparently it's a 15.88ct tourmaline, it's the engagement ring and it's meant for daily wear, I would not want to wear this everyday!  I would totally ruin it and I just would not want to wear something so big and cumbersome on my hand!

Oh, you will pull the sweater allright. One thread at a time, you will.

Tourmaline is way too soft in my view for something that size to be worn everyday. And of course her fingers are crooked - they need to fit around the rock...
