Um, what's hard about turnip? It's....the turnip! It is roughly the consistency of hewn granite, and it's solid all the way through, like a potato. Only much, much harder. No seeds or anything in the middle, just solid turnip all the way. It would be easier to scoop out a diamond... Grin

I admit I don't think I've ever eaten a turnip or really handled them.  Why?  Honestly I don't know.  I think I'll have to buy one at the store just for fun to see what they are like inside Grin

While on vacation (relaxing), I caught a show on TV that said that the original Jack O'Lanterns were carved from other vegetables other than a pumpkin and that the tradition began in Britain.  It was a US thing to carve the pumpkins.

...So, Jen, I found it quite interesting that you carved turnips.  Neat!

Interesting? Hmmmm.  Evil

Get a turnip. Try to hollow it out. Carve a face in it.

Then come back here and tell  me just how amazing I really am.  Grin

They are also called swedes - I think you get little soft, tiny turnips too. Not one of them. A big old stone-like proper turnip.

I'll see if I can find a nice big turnip  In general I have only seen the little ones though.  I wonder if we don't grow the bigger ones here?  I'll be interested to find out what I can find here.

We are about to start a farm share in a few weeks.  Right now root veggies are big so we'll see if I get any turnips LOL

Off to google about turnips first before I got to the store
