David, I really appreciate the motive behind not disclosing conflicting interests in a piece; and I can certainly see how someone could feel uncomfortable or pressured if told a piece he/she was considering may not be around much longer. However, having been on the snooze-loose end of events, I must admit that I'd like to know when someone else is interested. Even if it is just something like, "I don't want to pressure you. And I respect that you need time to consider this purchase. But, also, I don't want you to be upset with me later for not disclosing that there has been a recent inquiry regarding this piece. That being said, the piece could sit here for quite some time... I just never know. But, regardless what you decide, I want you to be happy."

Perhaps, when someone is planning to take some time to "consider" a piece, that is the time to let him/her know that if you do receive a call regarding the piece, you will sell it; or, you will agree to hold it for a predetermined time; or you will call... whatever.  It almost sounds like you need some sort of "hold" policy (it could be you DO hold certain things, or you DON'T, obviously, that's up to you).  Maybe this policy could be posted somewhere.  I don't know... it kind of makes you look like the bad guy whatever you do!

BUT, in the case you describe, it sounds like the potential buyer who lost out never got a second chance.  The only way I could see him/her having a chance at it is if you agreed to "hold" the ring, for a predetermined amount of time, while they decided. Of course, you could loose out on both buyers.

For what it is worth, I know that without a penny down, my ER was kept off display for months, and, an arrangement was made to call my sweetheart if there was a serious inquiry regarding the ring. I know that my DH was extremely grateful for the extra time he had (to sell his soul in order to make the purchase), and, in the end, I too was extremely grateful that the ring "waited."

This one is a hard call...

I think it is one thing if their person is calling back to give a credit card number or something, but if it is someone just over thinking things...then you snooze you lose...said in a very diplomatic way of course.

I think if you put it the way Trinkette suggested you can't go wrong! That way it doesn't seem like your pushing something and if the person calls back and it is gone, you did warn them!

D-I think we all appreciate your no pressure sales tactics!

That being said I think from a customer service stand point it might be nice to know if others are looking and interested in the same piece you are, stated similar to what Trinkette said.

From a business stand point I do understand you not holding a piece for someone if you have a buyer for it, possibly letting buyer #1 know that buyer #2 is ready to purchase it and giving them first right of refusal.

David is just going to have to go on a buying spree!  I think we need more rings with pink halos, some RBCs, hearts, brown diamonds and more gemstone rings.

Is R1657 sold?  It shows sold on DBL's web site but not in the online catalogue.

Glad you all approve!  I am super excited! With the high color and clarity, awesome cut, and amazing size for the weight I just couldn't pass them up! They will be in 18k split prong studs for now, and later I hope to find the right center with which to use them as sides, most likely a la WM's 3-stone, but I have some other ideas to.

DJM, I don't think they are even at the factory yet, but I will definitly take ear shots when I get them!

These are GREAT!  Congrats, GL!  Although I like the idea of wearing them as studs, I think they will make INCREDIBLE side stones for a three-Asscher ring, with either a white or yellow center.
