Please tell me that I'm not the only one with this problem!

Have you ever NOT been able to make a jewelry purchase decision?  What I mean is that the more I look, the more confused I get.  I like *everything*, and I can't seem to make up my mind.  What I like today is totally opposite from what I liked yesterday.  Then, in a week, I'll come back to something that I liked last week or last month.

It's so frustrating, because I have money to spend.  I can't make up my mind.   tantrum  We don't have a ton of money to spend, so what I do spend, I want to make sure it's *exactly* what I want.  I know that I can upgrade later, but I don't want to buy something that will "hold me over" until I can get what I really want.

I'm sure if I didn't have a penny, I'd be able to find exactly what I wanted.

Has anyone else been in this situation?

Hehehe!!!  I have so had that happen so many times!  (Especially when shopping for clothes)  I find that often I see lots of things that I want, but I find that there are a few things that really GRAB me.  And, those are the best.  But, they don't seem to turn up at the moments when I have the money to spend  Grin

There are WAY too many choices. For me, when I get a new piece, next thing I know there's a nother "something" I want and "need".  It's a vicious cycle and I don't think it'll ever stop, even those with MILLIONS.

Another thing is when I saved my pennies, and bought something, then withiin 24 hours David is tempting me with something and then I go, "*&^%$#@  should I have waited? Why couldn't he have shown me 24 hours ago!" LOL

Oh you are definitely not alone RR!  Too many stunning items to choose from.  I'm like KK, I've kinda learnt to distinguish pieces I like with pieces that 'grab' me.  The brown asscher was one of those that 'grabbed' me.  I knew I wouldn't be able to live without it!  There are so many pieces that I like - I could easily bankrupt us in a single phone call!  I tell you, it's not easy being a diamond addict!

Honestly though?  The pieces I have now, I really couldn't have dreamed of owning a few years ago and certainly couldn't have bought them if they were in a B&M store.  I have to thank David for helping me to start (note the use of that word  Grin - yeah, I ain't done by a long shot!) a top quality collection.  Now I just need to keep my head and buy only the pieces that are positively screaming my name!

RR, were we separated at birth?? Grin

I think I know exactly what I want and so exactly how much cash to liberate, then I see something else, or worse go through a phase of wanting something that I haven't seen yet but know I'd love more if I could only find it. I'm usually a fairly decisive person (um, brutally so at times) but when it comes to jewellery purchases, I can elevate dithering to an Olympic sport.

On the basis that I plan to collect DBL pieces oh, say for the rest of my natural life, I'm hoping that David has the patience of a saint. Grin

Do you want the long answer or the short answer to your question?     YES!!   I go through this dilema ALL the time! ....and when I think I am ready to purchase,  someone shows me something else that I have a new interest in!!!!

Right now here are some things rolling through my head:
   1) a curved diamond band in WG
   2) Take my grandma's diamond and set it into a halo pendant like Pinklady's

   3)a knife edge diamond band
4)Since I have so many rings, I have considered removing the OEC diamond from it's current setting.  The shank is ultra thin in the back and one of the fishtail prongs are worn.   I would reset this stone into a halo pendant setting instead of my grandma's diamond.
   5) reset my grandma's diamond into something else...or sell it. Unfortunately it has no sentimental value to me.  Undecided

Not to highjack your thread,  but here is my OEC ring and my grandma's diamond.  Any ideas anyone???

I know exactly what you mean! I have a ring set on hold for me right now BUT Thursday my job is having a preview and sale of a huge event on Friday. I went snooping last night and they had TONS of rose gold. So now I am thinking of putting back the ring and getting a couple of pairs of rose gold earrings and this KILLER necklace! So I am really, really torn! Because the price of the ring is only good for this week and the rose gold will be sent back after the weekend is up!!!! DECISIONS...........DECISIONS!!!!!

Ronda, what's the size difference between the two diamonds?  Would they work as earrings - there is always your head in the middle to deflect a minor difference?

There is a tiny bit of a size difference.  That is a good idea though...but I really have been wanting a halo pendant to make a nice set with my other halo items Wink   I  think I have become the halo queen!  LOL! angel

Also, my grandma's diamond is an I1.  The inclusion is quite odd as it almost looks like the culet has been snipped.  While looking at it under a 300X scope, it appears that there is a little corundum crystal in it.  It is bazaar, but really cool looking!    It also has a little chip on the girdle Undecided- she use to wear it next to a larger size CZ in a tiffany solitare setting.   That was really popular for my grandma's generation to do.   The CZ was worn flat on the edge.

If ever I could come across another OEC diamond of the same size....I probably would consider doing diamond studs......or halo studs! Evil angel

Ronda, I would have set your grandma's diamond as a earring would it be mine......or, here is an odd thought...how about having it set in one of your kids' class rings?

Honestly,  I don't think my kids will do a class ring.     I really don't see any kids get a class ring now-a-days.    I guess that is because we have to consider paying for college.   YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the OEC in the vintage setting for the appearance of the diamond itself....hard choice as to which one to make into a pendant...

I say ditch the class ring.  When I graduated *cough11yearsago* most of my friends weren't getting them and instead opted for a car or tuition or diamond studs.  In college, NO ONE wears their HS rings let alone letterman jacket.

Just curious - what exactly are class rings? I think I get the general idea, but I'm interested in the details. Not something we have in the UK.

when you graduate from school ,either High School or College, sometimes even a parochial school, you can pay for a ring which commemorates your time there.  it usually includes your schools name, graduation year, ect.  these are mine, one if from my high school and the other is from my undergraduate program...

Ah. Thank you. Does  everybody in the class get the same design, or can you choose?

You can choose your style! Like say you were in a sport, then on one side you could get something symbolizing the sport you participated in. It says the name of the school and the year of graduation.

lol, i bought my own class rings and everyone i knew bought them!  i guess it depends on the general attitude of the student population.  in my schools, they were seen as a right of passage and an honor to wear.  when you werent wearing one it was assumed that you werent graduating.  i still wear mine from time to time and i always wear it if i go back to my school to speak or to visit.

Depends on the school, the more elite ones tend to have one design for the entire class, and entire class designs were the norm prior to the 1970s...thats why collecting class rings is fun...I have one from a local high school from their first year (1937) in mint condition...during the war, the red stone was swapped for a white metal top...after the war, the tops could be red or black onyx...and the design completely changed by 1979..
My mom's school changed ring designs every five years or so...

Nowadays i hear the grad gifts most wanted aside from cars and tuition is plastic surgery augmentation and nose jobs.

Very true!!! I know for a fact my parents would NEVER help support this!!!

I remember at our HS, Jostons? Or some major chain was selling class rings, and there were tons of styles.

Maybe in a few years they'll all get the same nose, or the same augmentation size!
