Before I ask I will state that I recognize there is no one clear answer.  But I'm going to ask anyway.

Is there an average size difference between the same fingers on the right hand and left hand?  Clearly the larger one is going to be the dominant hand...but if you know the ring size on your dominant hand is it *slightly* predictive of the other?

For instance I wear anywhere from a 5-5.75 comfortably on my left hand (non dominant.)  I find that I need at least a 6 on my left, but up to 6.75 is comfortable.  The range is for time of year, random weight fluctuations, water retention....you name it.  But I'd say that my to ring fingers are about a size apart.

I'm pondering this because I need to get my ruby sized and I'm trying to decide what to request.  It's going to be a RHR.  I'm thinking 6.75 just so that it will ALWAYS fit.  But it's a 5.5 now and I'm not sure I want to size it up THAT much.

Anyway, inquiring minds want to know.  How big of a difference is there for you?  Don't be shy!

There is about a one size difference between my left and right ring fingers. However, I have a fairly deep groove in my left ring finger from my original wedding band.

DW has less than half a size (6.5 - 6.75 on ring finger and 4.5-4.75 on pinkie) between her two hands.

Sizing beads or a ring guard (properly made, not those hideous ones that show on the outside of the shank) may be an option if you do go for a significant resize but want to be able to use the ring on both hands.

It may sound silly...but something I love about this ring is that David made it PERFECTLY ROUND.  It's hard to explain because all rings are round (For the most part!) but this one has a REALLY cool profile, and I've not seen another like it on his site.  I'm worried about sizing it up too far and losing that roundness as it were.  I'd almost be more inclined to leave it as is and not wear it often before I'd sacrifice how delicious this ring is from the side, off the hand.

Wow, I'm a nut.

Dovesgate, I'm the same way.  I can even wear 4.75 on that hand without a problem because of the groove!  But I stick with 5.5-5.75 for the most part because I like the feeling of a slight spin on my rings.

6.5 left hand ring finger; 6.75 right hand ring finger. I can go up on each to 6.75/7 respectively, and down to less comfortable, more difficult to remove 6.5 on the right hand.

For me I size at between a 4 a 4 1/4 on my left hand and wear a 4 1/2 since I hurt that hand, I prefer them loose.  Also makes stacking easier Wink  On my right hand I am a 5 for small bands and a 5.5 for wider rings.

My hands were closer in size before the left hand was hurt.  They were less than a 1/2 size off from each other before then.  Over time the two have gotten to be about a size off from each other.

I haven't measured my other fingers in a while so I can't guess on those.

I'm a 9 on each ring finger.  I write with my left hand, but pretty much am ambidextrous with everything else. That size is a little loose in winter, and slightly snug in summer.

wow, I'm jealous!  The only things I can do left handed are knit and juggle.  Everything else is a nightmare.  I had shoulder surgery on my dominant side and it was a nightmare!  I couldn't even manage to eat let alone write!

It's also a handy situation for ring swapping too...

I read somewhere that ring size has little to do with which hand is dominant.  I need to see if I can find it where I read it.  Supposedly feet are the same way.  One is always bigger than the other and for most people it's a certain foot (can't remember which)

I am very ambidextrous.  Probably good since I've played all kinds of brass and some are left hand use and some are right.  I do write mostly with my right hand, but can easily do left if I need.  Same with using mouse/trackpads.   I can't switch rings on my hands (though my pointer and ring fingers are nearly the same size on both hands) but I can at least use whatever hand is most convenient at the time.

I do use my left arm as the dominant one for carrying things though so when I smashed my left hand for the 2nd time it was a real PITA.  Worst was putting a coat on.  I couldn't get over switching sides or even carrying a purse/bag on my left shoulder.

Hmmm...feet are a different story.  Left is a bit smaller.
Last year I had my left arm in a cast for eight weeks after surgery to repair torn tendons in my wrist acquired by trying to catch a patient who was falling.  I had to sign my name with my right hand and got pretty proficient at it very quickly.  It wasn't the same when I had broken fingers on my left hand in second grade, for some reason I couldn't do it then.

I really don't remember which of my feet is smaller.  I could measure... but I'm being lazy.  I just remember when shopping for shoes and trying to find a great fit, the shoe salesman at Nordstrom said that somewhere in the high 90% of all people have X foot bigger than the other.  In his experience it isn't related to the dominant hand either.  Just we're all uneven and the human body just seems to favor one foot over the other size wise.  He is an awesome shoe salesman (use him often) so I believe him since that's his full time work.

We're watching my son grow and we still have no clue if he is left or right or any handed.  Sometimes we swear we know and then he changes on us.  The school is very good at letting him pick and not trying to push something in one hand or another.  We have a tendency to put the fork/spoon in the middle of the table in the front of the plate and let him pick same with writing or drinking.  I wonder if he will ever decide Grin

yup, dominant hand SHOULD be a bit larger.

there is a good bit of information out there on the unevenness of the human body, and many things are not at all reliant on dominant sides.  With hands I think it is, because it's directly related to musculature/frequency of use.  But I could be wrong.

I was a dancer growing up and in conservatory my rhythm tap teacher used to measure our calves.  lol.  She said that if you were fully developed on both sides (could do equal amount of tricks and such) they should be even.  In the average person they were not.

I know the forearm is larger on the more dominant hand for sure... the finger size isn't from what I read.  I just found a poll on another forum so I can't link to it saying that nearly all the lefties had smaller ring sizes on the left hand vs the right.  A very rare few of both righties and lefties had it switched.  Obviously the forearm is variable if you drive a stick or have a job that requires one hand to be used more than another.  When I was fitted for my wedding dress I just started to drive a manual regularly and we saw the growth in my right arm Grin

I know bodies are totally not even.  One leg of mine is longer than the other (can't remember which) by almost an inch.  Again while being fitted for a wedding dress we noticed all kinds of unevenness on me.

You have me curious to measure my calves.  I know I am definitely left foot dominant in how I walk and jump.

LOL!  This is so funny!  My fingers are visibly bigger on my right (dominant) but I've never heard that wasn't related to dominance.  How odd!  Learn something new every day.....

I just checked- both left and right ring fingers are a beefy size 15.
I'm a lefty- but ambidextrous- IOW- I can screw things up equally with with either hand.

firegyspy- we can adjust the rig so you'll never know it was touched- promise.

For example- to give you an idea of flexibility, have a look at this ring.
2.70ct Light Yellow Center.
.75ct Emerald Cut on one side
.69ct Emerald Cut on the other side- both were D/VVS2- but that's another story.
Anyway- can you guess the finger size of the ring you see here?

My size? Grin Grin  I love that ring!!!

Seriously I was shocked to read about the size/hand dominance thing too.  I always figured my left hand got smaller on the finger due to the damage done to it.  They used to be almost the same size.  Smashing in a car door and a mixer did it in I think.  Before the mixer I was a 5 but I've lost size since then too.

No, but it's gorgeous!!! tell us!  tell us!!!  I'll just hope it's not my size....on EITHER hand!

And David, please don't ever think I'd question your worksmanship!  It's more with this one I can't see how it's possible but I'm no jeweler!  It's not that the inner circumference of the shank is round...it's that the outer circumference of the ring is, stones and all.  But, if anyone can do it, you can!

And I KNOW that it will look like it's never been touched.  I had a local jeweler offer to size it for me for $75, same day, lah dee dah, dee dah.  I ran, maniacally clutching it to my person.  I had visions of the shank being lopsided, busted and torqued.  No one will touch it but you!

I'm guessing it's a 5, and it's going to be a gaudy knucklebuster on that little hand. (Because as we all know, it's only gaudy on someone else's..on your own, it's an heirloom!) Tsk tsk..better size that puppy up to say..a 7?

It does look teeny, but the rocks might cause an optical illusion....my guess is 5.

My fingers are 1 size apart, give or take.  Left hand I wear 5.5 but a single narrow band might be a 5.  Right hand usually 6.5 but can squeeze a 6 on during cold weather and will go up to a 7 for extra wide rings.

My hands swell and shrink so much that I get the in-between size.  Most days it fits, some it is loose, others tight.  Try 6.5
