Rhinestone Tiara ~ Who wants one?

So, I am breaking out of the dream tiara thread to start our own discussion about buying some lovely, inexpensive rhinestone tiaras from a site that AH2 found. Let me see if I can paste in what was discussed already...

Ok, what about these? They are a bit taller. I only need two more people to go in with me. LOL!

WELL, now we are 3!  Do we have a 4th?  or more?  I'm good with anything you choose.  Hmmm.... perhaps I should get 2, so that any visitors to the Lake Tahoe area can borrow one for the obligatory welcome BBQ.  Think?

You crazy ladies are making me want a tiara too.  Can I drink beer in a rhinestone tiara?  If so I'll get one too!  The husband is president of our local bow club, so that makes me a first lady.  Do I qualify?

My bad!  Apologies, Lyta.  At some point I changed it to hidden.  It's out in the open again.  And if you are trying one from column a and one from column b - can I do the same thing, please?  It would be nicer not to have 2 of the same - I just wanted to be sure we covered the minimum order!

We plan on having a street BBQ shortly after we move in to introduce ourselves to the neighbors - nothin fancy, just dogs and burgers, so I may be wearing mine with a Coors Light  in hand...but maybe not until after my 2rd beer.

Ah2, I was going to order one of each since I couldn't decide. However, now that first one is gone from the site and who knows if it will come back. Here is the link for it but it doesn't work right now. It was called "Graduated Marquis Tiara #11460" and ran about $15:

Count me in for one of each, please.  Any and all are quite delightful for giggles and grins.  You should be able to see my email now. So just slip me a note when we get a bit more organized.  I'm not sure of the tax situation or the shipping one, so we may have to do this in baby steps.

Tax: they ship from NY. Most states have a usage tax, but I think for this kind of purchase no-one really bothers...
US Shipping: from $8.95 (order over $100, UPS ground) to $38.00 (UPS next day)

It looks like it is a flat rate shipping fee of about $9 and then I am not sure if they will charge me tax or not. I have the lovely honor of a 9.5% tax rate where I live. 

Then there is the question of how to ship it to each of you. I don't know but perhaps a large bubble mailer will work? Then it will only be a few dollars to ship USPS I am guessing but I don't know how much they weigh until they get here?

Lyta - if they ship from NY, they won't charge you tax (in fact they cannot charge tax) if you live outside NY state.

All states that charge sales taxes also have a "usage tax" of equivalent rate, which the state resident is supposed to pay on out-of-state purchases, but the duty to declare the usage falls on the consumer, who understandably forgets about it.

Has anyone worn any of these things?

Some of the pictures in the comment section look like they are perched on top of the head.  Other product descriptions say 'fits all heads' or 'has combs on the ends'...ends of what?!  I cannot discern from the photographs.  After a few drinks, I don't want these things to become a falling hazard and poke out somebody's eye! 

There are three of us gals that get together on a regular basis; the other two have short, fine, and thinner heads of hair.  Hence, I am concerned about the tiaras staying on their heads, but not being uncomfortable.

Yes, you can count me in.  I've never worn a tiara, so I'm not sure about how it will stay on my head, but I'll try most things once.     I do think I could have some fun with this and if nothing else, my granddaughters will love it!  The husband will think I'm crazy, but I've got some friends who won't even bat an eye.  Next year will be the last birthday I ever have and I think it will be perfect for my party!

OMC, I am more worried about packing and shipping to the individuals once Lyta receives the order.  I don't think a bubblewrap envelope will do because the end combs can break under pressure.  They are just little plastic things, as seen below.

Lyta, perhaps you can send the costs per when you make the order and we can reimburse you for that.  Then, when you can determine best method for shipping and packaging, you can send us each another 'bill' to cover the costs.    With a big 'THANK YOU' for your time and effort to get all this done.

Sparkly, the ones with combs on the ends are quite secure.  My hair is very fine and I wore my wire tiara to a very wild Halloween party a couple years ago.  It never slipped, although I did - down half a flight of stairs.  Those darned fairy wings just couldn't keep me aloft.

Fits all heads means that it will stretch to accommodate different sized heads.  Naturally, it is cast for a small one.  This one seems to have 1.5 - 2 inches in play, so that's quite a wide range of head sizes, if you'll pardon the pun.  

My helper in the pix below is Sexie Rexie, our Maine(ly) Coon.

Thanks for the pics, Ah2!  My concerns are no more.

Perhaps the best way to ship after Lyta receives the Tiaras would be USPS Priority Boxes.  I've purchased a lot from eBay and I've never received anything damaged in a priority box; other boxes, yes.  As Ah2 recommended, we could reimburse Lyta twice.

The post office has these 12" x 12" x 8" boxes that I can use. I would think they would fit in these boxes? I just have to ship priority and not use the flat rate boxes. I could do flat rate but I think paying by weight might be more reasonable. 

Once we figure out how many people are ordering, how many tiaras and what style I will calculate the cost. I will split the $9 shipping to me 5 ways and send each of you a PayPal invoice so I can order them. After they get here, I will send a 2nd PayPal invoice for the shipment to each of you once I figure out how much it will be.  I am glad to know I won't need to bother with the sales tax!

If we go for three styles, my choice is #10272 - Crystal Tiara ($17.06).

That would be 1.5" (Pear dangle),1-7/8" (Swirl Flower & Heart) and 2.25" (Crystal Tiara) in height.  The gal in my group that had the worst week would be "Queen for the Weekend" and wear the tallest tiara. 

If we don't select three style, I am OK with that also.

K, Lyta.  Glad to hear you had so much fun.  Somebody around here needs to.

If you're still short one, then change one of my swirl and hearts for whatever you're short on.  Just gotta have one with hearts for Awestruck's hen party,since she'll definitely be the Queen of Hearts.  Just hope everyone keeps their heads that night.

BTW AH2 I told my beloved you were buying me a tiara and he presumed it was for my wedding day. I then had to explain to him that NOOOOOO it was for his bachelor night and I was bribing his son to take a pic of his Dad wearing it when he too inebriated to know otherwise. You ever seen a grown man shake lol ? Not a pretty sight ....
