So, my sister and one of my friends are hosting a baby shower for me in a few weeks. Combine the fact that I'm a bit of a control freak to my obsession with the Food Network cake challenges and we get that I have decided to make my own cake. Mind you this is my first attempt but I just wanted to share some pictures of the marzipan figures I've made to decorate it with.

The first picture is a swatch of the nursery fabric that I've based the cake design on. I'm making it a two tier, the top tier will have a carosel with marzipan horses on it and the second tier will have all the other figures randomly placed around it.

These aren't the best pictures. The marzipan had not quite set yet and I didn't want to take them out of the container and risk messing them up.

I had DH make one of the monkeys, those are the hardest!!!

Thanks! I will definitely take photos of the finished product. Won't be until March 10th though since that's the day of our shower and I'm not going to assemble it all until the night before. I can't wait to see the final product. I really hope it turns out like what I have in my head! cross

WOW!!!! Just amazing!!!!!!  Dancing_biggrin

I too wouldn't eat it:) But wow, I can't wait to see the finished product!! Looks like it was hard to make those, but man, you're definately talented in my book! My cakes come from the box, or I'll just buy one! I have a hard enough time frosting cakes, as when I put the frosting down, it digs a hole in the cake!!!  boohoo

Fabulous !!!!   Unique and beautifully done!

Shouldn't the little man, at least, be holding a big diamond in his outstretched arms...?  (LOL)  ...I'm thinking something with yellow sanding sugar on it...  Or maybe the real deal...

That would give a whole new meaning to "carat cake" !

Phew!!! So this past week has been hectic trying to get ready for the baby shower! Everything went well and the cake was a hit!! Except that noone would eat my marzipan sculptures   crybaby2  they said they were too cute. I guess I understand, I don't want to eat them either but I spent so much time on them, I wanted everyone else to eat them. Noone would even cut the cake so I had to step in and do the dirty work. I pulled the figures off and we ate the cake so it wasn't a complete waste! Smiley

Here's a few photos of the finished product. It turned out really neat and represented the nursery fabric really well! The carosel topper was the hardest to figure out. I made it by gluing (he he, the only non-edible part of the cake) graham crackers to cardboard templates, then decorated it with icing.

Oh, and the last photo is our cat, Bandit, attacking the evil balloons left over from the shower!!

Oh wow - it turned out great!!  I must say that I think I like the elephant best.   Smiley  What an adorable cake, and I'm sure your little one will love seeing the pictures when they get old enough to understand what all went into it.

Edit:  I forgot to mention that I don't blame your guests for not wanting to cut that cake!  It's obvious you put a lot of care and love into it.

WOW!!!! wow2 wow That cake came out even better then I imagined! It looks beautiful! I have to admit I would have a hard time eating it too! But I would to make my hostess happy! You should of let the guests decide which one they wanted and sent it home with them in little to-go boxes. Sounds like the party went off without a hitch! Did you register for your shower? Did you get everything you needed/wanted?

That cake is SO amazing and precious!  I don't think I could have EATEN art like that, either.  It sounds as if your shower went well... are you pretty well set up for the baby's arrival?

Remind me-- boy or girl, or unknown, and do you have names chosen?  (Forgive my nosiness, but I love names.)
