Just wanted to start a new thread to announce I have just made my first DBL purchase!

http://rockdiamond.c...p;action=show_detail

I just got off the phone with David so it's official!

He's setting it in the Legacy halo setting: white gold with either gold prongs or a gold bezel. I've left that up to his professional and expert opinion as to which will look best, but we'll talk again tomorrow once they start working on it. He said it may be done in a week!  Shocked

I'll have to let DH accept the package so I won't open it until our baby is born.  icon_sunny

I'm so excited!!!

Jewel this is just wonderful news!  I'm going to move you up the DBL owners list right now!  YAY!

LOL Rhonda!  Yeah, I'd have a dang clean house too........wait, that's EXACTLY what's gonna happen in this house soon!  AARRGGHH!!

Jewel I think you have the patience of a saint and I guess we're going to have to be patient too for your beautiful handshots.  It will all be worth it though.  Are you going to have David post pics or just wait for the big moment when you see it in the flesh?

Thanks ladies!!

I'm thinking I'd love to see pictures from David to get a sneak-peek. Then wait to see it in person until after she's born. It's really giving me incentive to be strong for the delivery. I know I'm probably being melodramatic but I am absolutely terrified about the whole giving birth thing. I never thought I wanted kids until I met DH, then everything changed and I couldn't be happier. It's just weird that it happened to me so late (I'm 35) and I'm scared. So, knowing I'll have these two beautiful "rewards" for the pain really helps me through.

That is so awesome. Now, it's kind of a large stone. Will you be able to adjust?

Uuummmm....I think I'll manage Wink

I'm sooo excited!!! I have looong fingers and larger hands (I can palm a women's basketball) so I think this 1.92 is going to take up some serious finger real estate and make my athletic hands look pretty darned girly!!! icon_queen

Well, I had a c-section, so I cannot really comment, but as for next time - *cough* EPIDURAL *cough*!!!

JK!  I am sure I will be pounced by wonderful women who went au natural.  I did not have the option (transverse breech baby - ouch!), but you can definitely do it!!!!  At the end, you will have this little gorgeous and soft tiny bundle, and you won't even remember how it got there! (but, I hear you can remind them of how when they are 15 if you really want to bug 'em!)

CONGRATS Jewellk!!!!!

I'm so happy you finally got that radiant. The setting sounds like it'll be beautiful too....I love halos! I'm excited to see it set with yellow gold....I bet that'll really bring out the yellow in it.

But you have to wait until your baby girl is born to wear it, or even see it!?! I don't know if I could wait that long! I'd probably run to the hospital to get induced or something! Hehe!

I know what you mean.....I share your delivery fears also. I am 31 and have no kids yet. It's definitely a scary process, but totally worth it in the end. My brother & sister-in-law just had their first baby. She's adorable!!! My sister-in-law had an epidural (& NO episiotomy--that scares the hell outta me!) & things went very well. She said it wasn't as bad as she thought it'd be.

I think DJ & KK even went natural & said it wasn't too bad.....maybe they could help console you too.

Snooper, an episiotomy is when they have to cut the 'opening' as the baby's head is too large.  I had one when my son was born (he was 9lbs 8oz) and, while terrified of that before labor, I couldn't have cared less at that point!  I didn't feel the stitches either - I was too busy nuzzling my boy!

Jewel, don't stress out too much.  You'll be surprised what you can handle.  I was induced with my son and went 4 hours with contractions coming with 20-30seconds inbetween.  I broke down and had an epidural.  OMG.  Those things are wonderful!  I went from ripping out a section of my DH's chest hair for simply telling me to breathe, to smiling and laughing!  It wore off mostly for the actual birth which helped me to push.

My daughter was a different ballgame: I had every intention of having an epidural as soon as they would let me.  I had taken castor oil to begin labor and I arrived at the hospital at 2-3cm.  They refused to give me an epidural until I was at 4cm.  20 minutes later I was at 3-4cm and causing somewhat of a commotion so the nurse called the doctor to come in (it was 11pm so he was at home).  No kidding, 10 minutes later and no sign of the doc I looked at her and said, "I need to push!"  She said, "No you don't".  We argued.  She checked.  All the color drained from her face and she ran from the room to urgently page the doctor and told me not to push.  I looked over at my husband, burst into tears and said, "I can't even have a Tylenol now!"

All that said, it truly is not as bad as you think it is going to be and there are so many options for pain relief open to you.  After 2 kids I look back and think there was certainly something enjoyable about the whole birthing process.  If I had to do it again, I would not stress about it.  I will never admit any of this to my husband as he needs the odd reminder that I "went through hell to give you two children"!!

I'm sure it will all be fine and we will keep you in our prayers if you let us know as your due date nears.   Smiley

Thanks for the words of encouragement girls! I do need them!!  love1 We've hired a Doula so that has helped settle my nerves somewhat. Smiley and I've got one friend at work who has helped alot, she has a two year old. She's been very supportive and given me tons of good advice and loaned me lots of books. I had to stop reading them though, I got too freaked out! It's wierd to me that my mother went through this with essentially NO information, now there's way TOO much information with the books, the tests, the ultrasounds, etc.

Sometimes I really like living in my little "La-La Land" where I think my daughter is never going to cry, she'll sleep through the night, she'll start walking and walk herself to the toilet at 6 months of age, and she'll never want to date until she turns 25! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

That's good to know DJ. That makes me feel better (& I'm not even pregnant). I think that's the only part that really terrifies me! I'm afraid I'll kick my DR in the head if he comes at me with a scalpel or knife! I've seriously had nightmares about it!!!

Jewellk, if it makes you feel better, I brought this issue up with my DR. He does not consider it a "routine procedure", like other DR's I've read about. He only performs one if absolutely necessary. He says one of the best ways to avoid one is "perineal massage" which sounds like something only my hubby should be doing----but I guess better than an episiotomy.

This thread has taken a wierd turn here...... lol Smiley

But, I've had episiotomy's with all three of my kids. You won't even notice him doing it and it just takes a split second. And trust me.. it's better than tearing. You do NOT want to tear the skin there. A small clean cut is sooooooooooooooooo much easier to take of and heal!!

The more likely scenario at the point of giving birth is that you will get off the bed and chase the DR for a scalpel to do the job yourself..........trust me, you will not care one bit at that moment in time!

Amy, my Doc said the same thing, that she'll only do it if absolutely necessary. I'm really happy with my OB and the hospital. I got lucky and stumbled onto her when I first moved here 6 years ago.

DL and DJ, I'm glad to hear that episiotomies are not that bad...I trust that my Doc will do what's right for me and the baby. She's the one who recommended the Doula as well. They say women who have Doulas have shorter labors and fewer complications. I can totally see that, it really does make me feel better to know that I will have someone there throughout the entire labor and delivery who knows what to do when and can be your advocate when your DH is passed out on the floor!! Ha Ha!

Fortunately I didn't have to experience any of that! My first was an emergency c-section. I had an allergic reaction to a med they gave me and had 1 labor pain that went off the chart and lasted 20 minutes. Till they got me in the OR and did the epidural. The second I demanded another c-section which I got! I'm too chicken sh**! I don't do well with pain so I was kinda happy that I went the c-section route. It sounds like you are well prepared and you have gotten some great advice so far! Get your husband to hold your new diamond and make that your focal point and when the baby is out get him to put it on your finger. I'm pretty sure diamonds are pain relievers! hahahaha

jewelk- You'll do fine. I never had an epidural with either. Just when I thought I could not take it any more, it was time to push.

Oh, and like DJ, I did castor oil. It works but it brings on horrendous contractions.

I won't add my own story to this as I had a few situations happen that were not that "fun" during birth.....but really nothing to be concerned about!  All ended up going well.      One thing that I will say....I sure hope you don't have to push along time.  No birthing class can prepare you for dealing with hours (31/2)  of pushing.   I thought I went through a marathon!  My Dr. shook my hand because most people will only push a half hour, give up and then he has to do a c-section!   Shocked  My first thought was........hell no!...I am not getting a c-section after 3.5 hours of pushing and the scar, the rip, and the hymroids to boot!  Had I known that was an option to begin with, I wouldn't have pushed that long! LOL!
A Doola sounds really interesting!  I am sure she will be wonderful at calming your nerves.   I hope I did not scare you as  that was not my intention!    I am praying for a beautiful delivery with a beautiful, rosy cheeked baby girl for you!   angel11~Ronda
