Off-jewelry topic - is anyone here from Minneapolis? The bridge collapse is simply horrific. My heart goes out to anyone caught in that disaster.

I'm okay, and everyone I know is okay, but what a horrific tragedy!  Years ago, I travelled on that bridge every day...   Undecided

I couldn't even imagine surviving something like that! From what I read they are still looking for more victims. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the survivors and victims of this horrible tragedy.

I've sadly been glued to the TV this morning and the news seems to be so grim.

Not only is the human factor absolutely awful!  But think of the commerce that has been effected both by land and water---these were main transportation arteries!  This is going to be an ongoing ordeal for quit some time!!!

What I don't understand is, the bridge was in process of being repaired! This has happened in MA, too, recently, on highways. Engineering projects ending up with fatal accidents on innocent drivers. What's going on???

One of the friends with whom I spent the weekend is an ER doc in Minneapolis.

She hasn't checked in yet, but I am guessing she's safe but very very busy.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by this horrible tragedy.
Good point about not pointing fingers Ace-

I did hear some news that was - in the smallest way- good.
Basically, the collapse could have affected commerce in a much more damaging manner.
This having to do with the season- wheat harvest already done, corn not harvesting for about 2 months.
Plus there are Northern bypass routes.....
Our prayers are with ALL our friends out there.

I checked on my family and they're ok and I immediately thought of Annie.  I have an old roommate who lives in the area and she could hear the noise and said it was just awful.

Horrible, just heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers with those poor people and their friends and families.

Still trying to catch up with my family members there, but no bad feeling about them yet.

I live and work in downtown Minneapolis, and thankfully, all of my friends and co-workers are unharmed.  It's quite a shock for a giant bridge that you see all the time to suddenly be in the river though.

The Red Cross and a great hospital are nearly walking distance from the scene, so I'm sure that many were helped by that.

The tragedy could have been much worse had all of the lanes of traffic been open on the bridge, or had this happened in winter when people would not have been able to swim to safety due to the cold.

Huge thanks to all of my diamond sisters who were quick to check in on me to be sure I was alright!   hugging

Hugs back to you Anne and Sam (for your parents).   YOu two were the first people I thought of this morning!    I am glad that you and your family is o.k.     It looks horrific!  Like you said Anne, it sounds like it could have been so much worse.   Just like 9/11  ...you really feel like someone was watching over us when so many more could have perished.........  My heartfelt sympathy goes out to those who have lost loved ones. Sad

I think the videos of the bridge collapsing are just errie.  To see the cars on the first section that just collapsed is just heart wrenching.

BIG HUGS to those who know people who were affected...

I am sorry to be so late to this, but Annie, I am so glad you and your family are OK, and Snooper, glad about your parents too.  My heart definitely goes out to those who were not so fortunate.  These things are just so hard to digest.

I've heard from almost all family and friends(just waiting on one couple!) that they are all ok.  One friend was 5 min. away from being on the bridge and my sis would have been if she hadn't gone to another office that afternoon---so scary!  Traffic is terrible there I guess and will be along time before it clears up!!!  Keeping everyone in my prayers.

That bridge is a major artery. I saw my paper and came to check on annie. I was so relieved to see her name at the bottom of CDI.

Hope everyone else's friends and relatives are okay. It's just so bizarre.

Snooper, makes you wonder about the hugenot. It's a smaller bridge but I swear it looks like it was built in the 1800s. I get nervous crossing it.

Did you see where a paralyzed fellow survived not only this, but a shooting a few years ago? Glad everyone is safe!
