My husband and I are moving this summer, and Memphis, TN, looks to be the "half-way" stopping point.  However, I know nothing about the city.

Can someone tell me which side of the city to avoid?  We're traveling in two cars with dogs, so we'll probably stay at the La Quinta or something similar, but we want to stay on the safe side.

Thanks for any suggestions y'all can offer.

I'd definitely stop a bit of a distance this side or that of Memphis....All the hotels will be more expensive in town as compared to those 20-30 miles out of town.
Since you're traveling thru, you don't really need to stay in the "big city'.

Either I40 or I55 will both offer a lot of options before or after Memphis...
Just my .02cents....

I can tell you where I wouldn't want to stay, and that's on the side of town where Elvis' house is, nice place to visit, but I wouldn't wanna stay there.  Also, you must visit the Memphis Zoo if you're in the area and have time.
