That would be okay except for the fact it is a holiday weekend and the rates will probably be higher, hotels fuller and airports a lot more busy....... While I'm flexible, I would rather not do a holiday weekend.   Wink
This and also my family does huge gathering that weekend.  Also my son will start school the next day after Labor Day.  No way am I missing his first day of school Sad

LOL! You're so conventional... Grin

My attendance will depend very much on my employment situation, which is ...fragile (by that I mean my professional employment as a lawyer, not my employment with DBL. I'm surely hoping that's secure...)

Things can only get better, so I'm hopeful! My only stipulation is that we avoid hot, sticky, humid August if possible.

For me, August would be iffy...swim meets the first week, and a vacation somewhere in the middle.  October seems open at the moment for me...but since I won't need a hotel room being I live only one hour away...I will be there if the timing hits right.

I hear that Mrs M... thats why i am leaning towards October... Fortunately, I have a fairly flexible schedule. I just need to know in advance. My fav time of year to travel is the first week of december because it is the slowest travel week of the year and rates are at there lowest. however I know this isn't good for most people so I am thankful I work 24 hrs on 48 hrs off (firefighter/paramedic). It makes things much simpler than people who work M-F 8 to 5. Besides that, who wouldn't like to see NYC with their Christmas displays up? Just a suggestion....  Wink

when are you talking about? I'm a floridian and have only been to NYC for brief intervals.... never over night. Maybe that is why I am so excited by the thought of us all getting together...  Smiley

Don't ever come visit me in the heat of the summer.  NYC temps look like a dream to me compared to ours  Grin  It's been in the 70s here this week and I'm in jeans I am so cold.  Low 80s is decent but still cold for me  Grin

I truly have no preference on the month.  August might be cheaper for everyone hotel wise, but I am seriously considering booking via the "bid" places online.  Going for a 4-5 star hotel you can usually get them for $80-150 if you are patient.

Flights are no different here at all.  August is only easy in that my volunteer work slows down and I have more flexibility in when I go in to do the work.  October gets busier at my volunteer work and with some nasty changes coming up to the Catholic Mass (I work in the music department) it might be more stressful BUT I can work around that, especially if I can be home on a Monday or Thursday.  October also allows my husband to only take a half day or two since my son will be in school.

I assume it would be more during the week since those are the regular business hours Smiley

Each has good and bad but truly I am available for either the times that OMC posted.  Do we have the ability to vote here?  Or David when is good for you?

Maybe we should make this a poll somehow Smiley

Saqsay would Christmas lights be up that early there?  I really don't know.  I've only been to NYC in the summer time and only for a day trip (had family in NJ for a while)

Squigs, Christmas lights go up officially the weekend of thanksgiving (where I live and I would think most places)...  1st week or so of december would be my preference, but October would be ok too.  I can really go anytime, but I just enjoy certain times of the year more. Christmas time is my fav because it is always wonderful to see how other places decorate. I usually go to St. Augustine, Florida cause their Christmas display is amazing, but I have also been to Charleston, South Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, Las Vegas nevada, London, England and Edinburgh, Scotland to see their Christmas stuff...  So folks, don't worry about me, I'll make it work... i would rather cater to those who have less flexible schedules......

Ah I thought you were talking about October.

December is soooo crazy here. With music work for church I do I go nuts in December.  Add in a couple birthdays and I go insane.  I used to travel to FL that time of year every year and I even quit that after a while.  Holidays just add in so much crazy that I said I refuse to travel to family this year for any of the days.  Last year I burnt myself out trying to do it all.  Easter is about the only other time that drives me nuts.

Admittedly I would hate to worry about snow/cold weather causing issues for traveling here or there as well.  We've seen closures and delays here in the winter months.

Now if it were the south, I'd be jumping for warmth for a few days.  Well maybe as I said I go nuts that month.

Sanchica if you don't mind me asking are you a student or a teacher or something else?

Your post reminded me that I had one day in August that is bad, but it's on the last weekend.  A family member is finishing their grad school degree and I want to go to their graduation Smiley

Hey there!  Don't mind at all!  I'm a teacher, I work right in Brooklyn so even if it's October it's not bad for me to come in.  If it's a weekend I'll take the LIRR if it's during the week I'll hop on the subway after work.

For the last year, a friend and I have been talking about meeting up in NYC the third week in October. She is now living on the east coast and I have never been to New York. Odd coincidence that the forum members are now planning a DBL ambush around the same time. You might have to count me in, if my friend is able to negotiate around her work and child commitments.

I think Trink is in Virginia - but don't quote me, I could be wrong.  I'm in northern Nevada, about an hour or so out of Reno. My sticking point is cost and job related.  If I take a contract before the date, then I won't have time off.  If I don't take a contract, I'm looking to budget everything.  And don't forget to pack your tiaras, ladies.  Should I be able to join, I'll bring my spares.  Grin

Oh cool!  I always try to remember to ask like that in case people are a bit more sensitive about what they put out on the internet.

Ah2 your post reminded me of something I did nearly a decade ago.  I was friends with someone via a forum and people wanted to meet up at my favorite FL family destination.  I wanted to go but funds were bad and so a friend of mine from the internet offered to share a room with me.  Of course some of my family flipped out because I had never met this lady in person before.  Never mind we were friends and I talked with her family a lot on the phone even.  I loved her to death.  Fortunately my dad didn't think I was crazy and neither did my husband.  So the nutty thought is if you trust someone enough here could you split a room?  Just a thought.  The lady I stayed with was truly one of my best friends for about 10 years before she died.  So it might sound nuts, but hey, I'm known for nutty ideas I think  Grin

Works for me!  OMC said the third week worked and greeneyedbass might be there then too during that specific week.  Looking at something for church that would be a great week for me too since we'll be past Yom Kippur, my anniversary and a test run of new music for this year for church

So... week of Oct 16th is good?

What days?

Maybe David could chime in on which days might be best for the business to be bombarded? Wink

Re: Splitting a room

It's interesting that college dorms think nothing of having 3 or 4 strangers live together for several months without any prior contact - at least that's what happened to me a few years ago.  So, I don't see a problem splitting a room with someone that you have talked with extensively, but just haven't met.

I'm with you, Sherylsbuys.  Call it shades of summer camp - 12 in a cabin stacked 3 high.  I still can't commit, even with that.  but we shall see.  Lordy, I WANT to make the party, that's for sure.

I'd love to go but I don't think I can. Our antiquing trip at the end of the month is still scheduled and we have too many birthdays through the end of the year. Cry

I will be there in spirit and I expect someone (or a few of you!) to try on my favorite jewelry for me!  Evil

I'll look tomorrow about taking the 16th of october off. I am pretty sure I can get that whole week from mon-sat. Not that we need that long. I believe airfares maybe slightly cheaper to fly in on a tuesday, but I will have to check further.
Splitting rooms may work.  Otherwise I'll probably be somewhere by the airport in a motel where they rent rooms by the hour  Grin .I actually saw rates for the Waldorf Astoria on a discount site for 275.00 a night but funny how none of the days I picked were available. Sometimes i think these sites are just full of cr@p.

Now maybe the question should be which day(s) would be good?

and should I bring my DBL rings? I never travel with my goodstuff but I guess it would be defeating the purpose of our get together... wouldn't it   dontknow ?

Don't feel bad Dove, I just got back from vacation in May. However, I was gonna come up by myself just to get away for awhile. Besides, I have been promising to for awhile now. While I have been to NYC, I have never actually stayed there. Unless of course sleeping in JFK or Laguardia counts  Wink
