holy crap, I just checked flights!  $500 inc tax to Newark direct. *thud* That is less than I just paid to get to AZ.  How am I going to convince hubby that I should fly across the country to meet a bunch of diamond friends from the internet and go shopping?

Hi Shiba, Keep checking daily. The prices seem to fluctuate day to day literally. The problem I had was I would find a killer fare on wednesday or thursday and wait till friday to pay and the price would increase by $50.00-75.00. Finally I bit the bullet and bought on a wednesday. Travelocity and trip advisor will send you emails when the prices drop if you sign up for those. I do hope you can make it. I think we will have great fun.  Wink

I should also point out that I don't have short fat fingers more like long fingers on man-hands. complete with tacky fake nails. I am anticipating wearing my tackiest nails for our get together. Be forwarned Grin

Ouch... did you check LGA or JFK?  For me Newark was the most expensive by far (flights were $350-1000 there Shocked)  Good luck convincing your husband though.  I'm  usually fairly convincing if you need help Wink

Crazy, but that is a cheap fare!  It was over $900 last year pp return.  We don't get those super cheap rates up here.  I flew into LGA last time but it wasn't direct and with an airline who I have vowed to boycott.  Too bad since it is super easy to get into Manhatten from there.

Yup, it is crazy.  Depending on the day, it could be $100 different each way.  I tend to suck at catching the sales.  It seems that they only have the deals on the days I can't travel.

ohhh, do you get the 3D nail art done?  No one really does it around here.  It can look super tacky.  Grin  If you like DIY, check out youtube for water painting.  It is really neat the effects- kind of marbled with nail laquer.

I was planning on getting a manicure the day before I leave.  Now I wonder if I should go with bright and fun.  No fake nails here but still could go with super fun polish Grin

Shiba that does stink about the flights.  I hope you can find something.  LGA looks really eay to get into Manhattan.  I plan to use a shuttle service that drops me off at Grand Central.  Cheap and easy... or so I hope.  It's the one airport I haven't flown into yet, but many say they like using it over JFK.

I'd love to be able to post a list of rings to have someone with short fat fingers like mine to try on Wink

Dovesgate, what size ring do you wear?

6.5-7

That's not fat!  That's average.  I, on the other hand, do have the short, fat fingers.   I wouldn't mind being your hand model, because I DO have the short, fat fingers, but nothing David has will fit me.  I wear a 9.

If I go I can model for you- I have short chubby fingers!! Size 6 on left ring finger and 6 1/2 on right ring finger!

Jpup, you must be right handed. I'm 6.5 on the left hand and 6.75 on the right. Or did I get that backwards? icon_scratch

I thought I read most people have right hands that are larger no matter if they are right or left handed.  Same with feet per the smart people at Nordstrom.

In my case my left hand is a size 4-4.25 (wear larger due to hand damage) and my right is about a 5.25-5.5 but my left hand is longer than my right.  I do write mostly with my right hand but I do use my left a lot for many things.  I'm  nearly ambidextrous as is my son.... I'll have to check his hands out.

My ring fingers are both size 9.  FWWWAAPPPPPP!!!  That's the sound of a nun smacking my left hand.  The only thing I do left handed is write, I've adapted to a right-handed world otherwise.

Yup- right handed. I do almost everything with my right hand, especially since I broke my left wrist several years ago and it never healed quite right, so has somewhat limited mobility.

You sound somewhat like my brother.  He's a lefty who does a lot with his right hand as well.  Part out of need and ease.  I somehow seem to be the opposite of him.  Kind of fun.  My son really has us confused as to which hand he likes but knowing my lack of handed-ness and my brother being a lefty with righty abilities we never pushed it.  I really wanted my son to pick so we'd put his spoon in the middle to let him decide.   He's not even 4 yet and the preschool he is going to will let him pick whatever he wants and not push one way or another.  I will say he throws like a champ with his left hand... even better than righty, but we'll see where he goes.

My grandmother apparently tried ot make my brother a righty (or so I thought I was told).  Sure didn't work.  I did what I was told but seemed to do more lefty stuff as I got older.  You should see me play basketball... it's funny to see me try to do a layup since hands were doing it righty but my feet were positioned like a lefty.  I never knew which hand I liked better for dribbling Grin

Sorry for the threadjack.  Since my son was born we've been very interested to see which hand he'd pick.  Everyone said we'd know by now, and just when I think he's decided it changes.

Jpup ouch on the wrist injury.  I've only hurt my hand and I know my left hand is not as good with grip as the right due to it all.  I am sorry it was hurt so badly that it affects your current mobility Sad

i always thought that the dominant hand was bigger than the other. More muscles from writing, gripping etc....Don't know for sure, but I do know that one hand (finger size) is bigger than the other. Interesting comments.

Mind you, the ring finger is the weakest finger of all (as pianists well know), and the one with the least mobility, so I would not expect significant differences between hands unless people's jobs forced them to use one hand significantly more than the other. I have an interesting family story about that, but I'll tell you in NYC...

I did some google searching and weeding through showed that the majority of the people had the right hand larger than left "handedness" did not matter.  Only a few had larger left hands.

I used to think that too!

I agree about the ring finger being the weakest finger for sure.  My pinkies are both fairly strong thanks to flute playing but both ring fingers are pretty pathetic.  For me both index and middle feel equal but I also do a lot of brass playing that used both fingers pretty equally.  The ring finger (3rd valve) is not as common to use.

I know in HS my left and right hands were about 1/4-1/2 size off from each other.  Just enough to make that size 6 ring on my left hand to feel a bit snug on my right.

After my left hand was smashed in the car door my size has been going down in that hand.  Not totally sure why but they are way off compared to before.  However my left hand is still about a size smaller than it was in HS... same weight too.

I can't wait to hear this story though.  You have really peaked my curiosity.

If you play guitar, you need a lot of strength in the third finger.....especially blues guitar, where the third finger is used to stretch the sting.
