Hi BJ!!!

I hope it's the most *romantic* day of your life!!!!! Enjoy it....don't get stressed.

I'd love to see pics (especially your pink dress) when you get a chance.

I still have a little wedding gift for you two....I've just been a slow poke on making it over to the post office, but it'll be mailed TODAY!

I'm so happy for you. Marriage is a wonderful thing. It's great being married to your best friend. I wish you two a lifetime of happiness together!

Thanks for your patience all, work has been really busy since I got back.
Our wedding was a wedding in reverse! Most people have a ceremony first, and then a reception that can last until the wee hours....
We left Cumberland, MD at 4 pm on Wed, and drove to a town in Pa not far from Indiana whose name escapes me to meet some of Ollie's friends for supper. Their son is just under two, had a cold, and she is pregnant with their second...spending a whole night on the Knob with us just wouldn't have worked, and I am grateful they took the time to eat with us.
We got into Indiana (30 miles from Punxsy, or the next closest town with an open hotel, at 10 pm) Much of Thursday day was sleeping, but we did drive into Punsxy for a meeting with the Weather Discovery Center, some good desserts at Punxsy Phil's and a quick interview with the local radio station.
There are a good number of weddings in Punxsy every year, but ours was the first one to take place at the old post office that they are working to turn into a museum.
Our friends got into town about 10 pm Thursday night...Tim and Shelley drove up from Manassas Va, hit town, bought groundhog hats, and starting wandering around the whole-town, all night party...John joined us at 3 am. We had coffee at This and That where some Inner Circle members (town business owners in top hats and tuxes) had left Groundhog Club tokens to be handed out.
We then went over to the community center, and slept on their floor for a few minutes, got up, watched
Groundhog Day the movie at midnight, and hopped a school bus to Gobbler's Knob.
3am to 730 am was spent listening to music, dancing around in either groundhog hats, or with our puppets held high in the air (we got these on the day we met and they go with us Everywhere) . They shot t-shirts and stuffed 'hogs out of an air cannon. Right before dawn was a nice fireworks display, the Pennsylvania Polka, and the Prediction. This year, Phil looked young and was well behaved, he had two new handlers that had not done this before, and he nuzzled and tried to lick them. The prediction was for an early spring!
We walked the mile back into town, hit the first open breakfast buffet we saw, (in a neat, old, dark wooden church that had posters of New Mexico on the walls..NM is a Big thing with our group)  and realized we were running late.
Ollie dashes to the market for our wedding cake (36 groundhog cupcakes) I run to the Weather Center and...had the stitches to the alterations fly apart as I put on the dress. Never fear! My friends are gearheads! A quick run to a car provides double sided, 3M trim tape, and five minutes later, the bustline fits perfectly and isn't slipping, no matter how cold it gets.
Our friends Bob and Monika make it from Irwin, Pa before the ceremony...and they look adorable! They are in their 60s, but bought some groundhog hats and had glowing smiles on their faces. Dad and his lady make it five minutes before the ceremony. Neither like to dress up, both dislike the cold, and they had to leave at 6am to make a 930 wedding, but they left right after the ceremony and made no fuss. The mayor, and two members of the Inner Circle arrived, we called my mom on the cell (she had two foot infections from her diabetes, and the site has no ramps, I didn't want to risk a hospital trip)
We gathered in front of a new 30 ft fiberglass replica of Phil's tree stump....
The ceremony went fast, the mayor had a ton of weddings to do that day, and the Punsxy official ceremony is long and quite religious for a civil service. Right after the service, we were interviewed by their newspaper, and Farmers' Almanac TV....with all of that, Ollie's camera was too cold and wouldn't work, John left his in the car, and only Shelley's film camera got any shots at all. I'll try to get those scanned today...Staples can do it, right?

Our wedding bands drew the comments of 'you people are sick' and 'how cute'. They are recycled rose gold front and rear of a VW New Beetle. We had to leave the logo off to prevent being sued, but mine is a stylized front of a bug, with two quarter carat rounds as headlights.. his is set with two half carat oval red sapphires to mimic taillights. Ollie has said we can do vow renewals whenever, and that I can choose other rings to wear without hurting his feelings, which was quite nice.

We drove back from Punxsy at 3 pm, tried to get my daughter to her dance, it was cancelled, so we drove to Manassas so Maria could spend the week with Tim and Shelley. Our wedding night was typically romantic. We fell asleep on their couches, and they covered us with blankets....we woke up at seven am, starting driving, and didn't stop until 11 am the next day in Arkansas. Yep, 60 hours of chaste honeymoon. We hit the diamond field right away, and found nothing. Then we checked into our tiny, yard shed tourist cabin, and drooled in the rockshop/camp store (they do sell locally found diamonds too)

If you go: note the following. There are no places to get food or propane on a Sunday. There are no decent restaurants. There are two, but they are overpriced, freezing cold and the food stinks. Luckily, we had a propane burner, and a picnic basket full of tuna fllets in foil packs, and bags of pasta. The clay is grey, and will stain light colors if you aren't careful. The field, is MUD. In places it will pull your shoes off. We had a blast lol
Two days later, we drove up to Kentucky, and did some cave tours at Mammoth and Diamond (Diamond is much prettier) and instead of 120 per tour, often times there were only 6-10..hotel and camping rates drop too....there are a ton of tourist trap shops, and an old hotel make of concrete tipis.
Ollie's camera warmed up and we got those photos, I'll upload later...the groundhogs you see are Scooter and Radar, we got those the day we met....Honeychuck and Owen, bought to celebrate our engagement..and the unnamed Wedding Hog. (Anyone have name suggestions?)

Welcome back EMJ!! Sounds like the wedding was quite memorable! Congrats again Smiley Looking forward to seeing pictures! You must have driven through my hometown on your way back home (Louisville, Ky). Did you happen to take any of the spelunking tours in the caves?? Those are much more interesting than the walking tours. If not, maybe next time!! Sorry you didn't find anything in the Diamond Fields, DH and I have always wanted to do that, thanks for the tips!!

Sounds like the busiest wedding I've ever heard of!  Congratulations!  It's so good to hear from you and that you had a memorable day.  How cool that your friends fixed your dress like that - those are the best kind of friends to have!

I would love to go the the Diamond Crater one of these days too so thanks for the heads up.

Say what? This sounds like something out of a Billie Letts novel.  This is a compliment, by the way.

We MUST see these wedding bands.
