I mean, when did you first realize you were 'falling in love' with this kind of gemstone?

Honestly, I suspect I was born knowing that.  Grin  One of my earliest memories is walking through the Argyle Arcade in Glasgow, with is a little diamond district, in an indoor Victorian arcade.

I got properly obsessed when I got my first PC and discovered the internet (and DBL).

It actually didn't start with diamonds for me.  It started with with little quartz pieces I could find around when going for easy nature hikes as a kid.  I got into colored gemstones first.  It wasn't until I saw a colored diamond that I went "WOW!" that I really got into diamonds.  I appreciate colorless diamonds a lot but for me I am always drawn to color for the center stone.

After that point I did a lot of reading about cuts and color as well as clarity.  One of my local jewelers took a lot of time to explain a lot to me and i did more reading on my own - particularly as the internet has grown.

DBL has definitely been on my radar for a long time too.  I think I must have been lurking around for years before I knew we would be in the market for a new diamond for me and began to post.

My need for "sparkle" came as a little girl too...I use to play with my mother's costume jewelry and pretend they were real diamonds and gemstones.  I vowed that one day, I'll have the "real" thing...that's why at first, I was drawn to very high color and great clarity white diamonds.  As I "matured" though, I realized there was beauty in the lower color stones too.   Falling in love with colored diamonds wasn't a big stretch for me...I basically need to have colors around me...I love colors...as in my yellow car, red and orange jackets and the vivid yellow and pink diamonds on my wish list!   Grin

(oh yeah, I was a big star gazer as a child too...because they sparkled and twinkled like diamonds !)    drunken_smilie

Lovecolor that is so beautiful!  I loved looking at stars too as a child because they twinkled like pretty little diamonds.

I do love color more but I really do appreciate all kinds of diamonds.  Even more recently I have decided to let go more and expand what I try on.  I am so glad I did because I have found more to love.  As in what I would appreciate before (let's say a round pink diamond) is one I love Grin

Jen I forgot to say I love your answer... born knowing.  I think my son is that way too.  I love it.  I think I will have to google the Argyle Arcade.  Sounds like an interesting place.

Very similar to me-but it was my grandmother's costume jewelry!  I used to hound her for it and she'd save pieces so that I could take one or two each time I visited (once a week at least!)  I've always been head over heels for jewelry, and once I had my own money it's all I ever bought.  I also have an obsession with anything that glitters and sparkles which is not limited to jewelry!

But what it really was was my grandmothers jewelry.  I LOVE her wedding set-everything about it.  The way it looks, the way it sounds as she moves her hands and the bands clink together, and way it throws light everywhere...I was hooked from a very young age but I'll always associate good jewelry with my gram!

For me it was always my Mother's jewelry.  She loved it and I learned to love it too.  The ultimate gift to her was a nice piece of jewelry and that was what she would always give me to mark a special occasion.  I still love that tradition!

I love that tradition too!  I always give myself a nice piece of jewelry to mark special occasions...sometimes I even let my DH take the credit.   Grin

I was a late diamond bloomer.  For the first 15 years of our marriage, the only real jewelry I had was my engagement/wedding ring set.  I loved costume jewelry, but realized that it didn't stay looking nice very long.  After 18 years of working very hard, I finally got a BIG promotion, and could afford the good stuff without dipping into our life's savings or our children's college funds.  I loved unique pieces, and especially colored gemstones.  One day I was surfing eBay, and viewed stunning yellow diamond jewelry at reasonable prices.  That's how I found DBL...and then I found MasterCard.. and the rest is history....or should I say priceless?

I love cards...my DH actually does better with cards lately than with the "hard core" stuff that sparkle...I'll take what I can get!    Roll Eyes
