We had the discussion and I got the go ahead.  I need to dig around myself now.  I looked online and the first place I clicked on caused my PC to crash and restart.......which caused me to instantly unplug the sucker from the wall, start it back up and run a scan for viruses!  I need to pencil in some time to find a broker - sometime soon.

DJ - check out this Palladium ETF as an alternative option to bullion.  I talked to a local bullion dealer today and the transaction markups / tax make Maple Leafs fairly unattractive as an investment (i.e. Pd would have to go up 26% just to break even if selling back to the vendor).  I may still look privately for some Maple Leafs (no tax, negotiable markup - there's not too much of a hit on the sale), but the ETF seems like a plausible way around the normal fees.

(NOTE TO ALL!  I AM NOT A FINANCIAL ADVISOR, EXPERT OR PERSON OF ANY KNOWLEDGE WHATSOEVER - this is only idle chit chat!)

Thanks so much for that Gemelli.  I'm going to read through that site tonight.  It looks really interesting from what I have seen so far.

No problem - I'm trying to figure out how to get into that or something similar myself.

I think the self-directed investing plan I'm on (through my bank) limits me to US/CDN markets, but I'm sure I can go through other channels.

Palladium is back down to $363/oz.   Sounds like most of Europe will have Pd ETFs in place in the near future...  supposedly the Swiss one was going to launch today.

Nope.  I still need to get in to talk to a broker about international stocks.  My direct

I did pick up some spiders and an emerging markets ETF, which both promptly took a loss.  BangHead
S'ok....  they are long-term investments and I shouldn't worry about what they do day-to-day.

I'm kicking around the idea of buying a big ol' block of silver, though.  I don't think it's got the potential to rise like Pd, but it's relatively stable and the cheapest way to get some physical treasure in-hand.

I'm also keeping my eye on the Won, since we are going to be spending some significant coin in Korea this fall - it's sitting just above the 5-year average now, but if it drops (more W/$C) I'm going swap some funds over and be a multi-millionaire!  (roughly W1000 /$). Grin

Rolled the Sparklie Stash into USD today (and in the bank), since the loonie looks to be jumping one way or the other in the next couple of days.  It's been GOOD!  Haven't gone into any precious metals as of yet.

It's funny - the pile o' cash hidden at home has probably outdone my investments over the last while, since I'm investing in a fair amount of US securities.  Roll Eyes
