I do both (in fact, trying to sell my studs and some shoes there right now so I can make my much much much much desired next DBL purchase!).  You have to be really careful on both ends, but you can do extremely well.  I have been buying for about 8 years and selling for 3.  And of course, ebay was where I made my first DBL purchase!

I buy, occasionally and cautiously! I tend to stick to a few sellers that I can check out. There are a couple of very good antique jewelry specailists on UK ebay.

I have a bid on at the moment for an antique pear cut (what is my fixation with pear cuts all about???). It's a pin, but if I get it and it's good, I have plans for it to feature in a pendant, along with a long oval cut sapphire (also Victorian, also from ebay) that I have in a brooch.

It's quite possible that I need to be stopped! I love ebay, though mostly just for browsing, and I haven't sold anything yet, although I have a few bits and pieces of jewelry that I might get round to selling, when I figure out how.

I haven't done much of either.  A couple of times I have bought small items, such as acessories to my Vera Bradley purses that are not available in stores, and have had good luck so far.  I love to browse around though, especially at the vintage toys, glassware, etc.  Brings back memories!

I surf a lot in the jewellery section but have only bought 2 items from there so far - my antique set and the orange blossom ring. But I have bought other stuff ranging from nail polish to jewelry cleaner, boar bristle hair brush. So far, I've been lucky that all the sellers have been pretty nice.

I've never sold on ebay. Is it difficult? I may want to sell some of the jewelry that I never wear anymore.

BTW, what ever happened to the Classifieds on CDI? I just realised that it's gone.

I hesitated for a long time to try and sell on ebay.I thought it was so complicated.I used to sell my old no longer wanted jewelry to afriend on my jewelry BB and she sold them in the UK where she lived.

I was mostly just giving it away ..really like pennies on the dollar or less.

Of course after I discarded most of my lower end jewelry that way and  then I started collecting higher end stuff so I decided when it was time to sell those I'd try ebay or list them on my MSN BB in our swap shop.

Last year I did quite well on ebay and totally upgraded my collection.  It was not comp-licated at all and  I made some friends.
Now I thinkk less jewelry (but better and bigger) is more.

I do both.   It has been awhile since I have listed anything for sale.   I think Ebay/Paypal fees have gotten a bit too much especially if you are selling something for next to nothing.  Embarrassed

I do a lot of surfing on eBay and that's how I found DBL.  I've found some great jewelry bargains - the vintage stuff primarily - but you have to be very careful IMO.

I've sold too, though not as much.  Actually I sold a very substantial ring for my son's dad a few months ago.  He flew to Vegas with a relatively new girlfriend he was head over heels with...they ended up in Tiffanys and he bought a 1.5+ ct Lucida for her.  We're talking $25k people.  Well, of course, they broke up not long after, but too late for the 30 day return period.  That was 2 yrs ago, and he still had the ER in his drawer.

He asked me to sell it on eBay, so I did.  To a perfectly lovely couple in California who were celebrating their 20th anniversary.  It was very cool!  It didn't go for his purchase price, of course, but fetched significantly more than it would've from jewelers who buy signed pieces for resale.

I'd love to try on a Lucida one day.. Those face up small too, but so cool looking... I refuse to try it on at Tiffany's as I'll probably come out screaming and kicking (in addition to the price shock)

I've bought a lot of things from Ebay and got some good deals.  I hope to begin selling shortly, including a few jewellery items I no longer want so that I can open a DBL ring fund.   Cheesy

I buy, it is easy, in fact far too easy and difficult not to get carried away but like Jen I am thinking about selling some extra pieces of jewellery I have as soon as I figure it out.  Maven says she hesitated for a while but that it is easy too, so probably IŽll be starting soon.  The way I have been buying I will have to fund this little hobby and soon.
I am disciplining myself a bit though, I put in my maximum bid and then go away from the computer until the auction is over.

My DW and I sold some remaining pieces of very large Raymond Waites furniture on ebay just before she sold her stores (so she could come work for me!!) I was surprised how easy it was and that people thought nothing of paying a moving company ship the items half way across the country. We got more hits on ebay than we did traffic coming into the store--and we had a busy store!!.  We now sell Sid Dickens tiles and other accessories.

I started by just cleaning out my massive collection.Gave some to my daughter and some to my sister. Then I looked and thought

1. what did I have that I bought and never wore( sad but true)

2. what did I have that  I have not looked or worn in yeats???

3.What rings do I have from when I was a size or 2 smaller ( ring sizes) now about 5-6 dress sizes larger

4.what did I think were my jewelry "mistakes"

5.what things that I have "collected" can I part with without regret??

6.What do I wish I had  a larger carat weight of ?

7.If its yellow gold it went Bye bye..I only wear white gold.

I followed the ebay instructions on  how to list..when I first started I listed a really ( too low ) price and then a buy a now price that was like $10 or $20 more.everything sold buy it now..

I realized I priced things too low.One item just  got  1 bid and it was then bidded up to $200 more than I asked...OK I thought  don't do that again.

Then I tried a best offer  auction. Big mistake. People start at a fraction ( lower than 1/2 ) of whatever you ask.I never sold anything that way.

I don't sell out of the country or canada ( too much hassle) and I don't allow bidders  with  zero or negtaive  to bid .
If less than 10 feedback  to bid  they email me first, you can see if contact info is correct.

I have had  a few dead beat bidders and  acompanying horror stories.

Be careful not to mention any trademark names in yout title like shopnbc ( a place were  alot of designer jewelry is sold) they'll end your listing because of copyright infringement.

Also take your own photos and  be prepared to emails from potential  customers.

Always answer your emails from ebay page never from your home email unless you want them to have it.

Also never list your item for less then your willing to accept for it.

Some people subscribe to the $1.00 theory list it low and let it  go into an auction frenzy ( too risky )

I found that he summer months were actually better fro selling   jewelry than  holidays ( weird huh?)

also  about  every 2 months or so they have a really low listing fee day and  thats when its really a great time to try it out.LOw investment on your part.Otherwise for items a few hubdred to over a thousand with a picture and layout your probably looking at about $6 per item ( just to list) plus they charge  fees ( a percentage ) when it sells.

Good luck.!!

It can be lots of fun, I have  made enough to trade up on all my better  items and now I have an awesopme collection( less , lots less ) but way better.
email me if I can help.

Ill claify  for me less quantity and better and bigger quality is way better. I love large pieces. I have big fingers. I think my taste has changed to larger  jewelry in general.
I also want  only the best top quality and wont settle for less, so for me less quantioty is actually number of pieces I own is better so that I may have larger  better quality ones.
At one time I owned over 300 rings.Does anyone need that? I was just collecting them to collect them and most I never even wore, ever. That was just crazy. I sold them, slowly replaced just  enough to have a very nice collection of the finer things.

So you like bigger Maven.  That is the amazing ring shrinkage syndrome they look big for a very short time and then suddenly become small. Of course SnooperŽs ring is never going to shrink but it is amazing how her ring made mine shrink like crazy. LOL

I'm more into buying than selling.  I did sell two things and even though I lost some,  all in all it wasn't too bad.. But dang those fees!! And dang paypal fees too!!!  Angry
