An aspidistra is a plant with large, flat, dark green foliage. Very popular as a house plant in the mid-late 19th century since neither lack of light nor fumes and gases will kill it.

http://www.killerpla...-plants/20020221.asp

...and here's the song (in its original interpretation by Gracie Fields, 1938)

http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=6XROMw3Z4e0

and the text (with a couple of minor differences from the sung text)

http://www.digitalti...gest_aspidistra.html

Now that I think about it - what about making Camilla an aspidistra leaf-shaped tiara, eh, Charles?

sounds like my kind of houseplant. thats the perfect name for this tiara.just out of curiosity. do you have any idea what the pink stone is in post 163? to me it looks like a pink tourmaline but i guess it could be a sapphire.

Mind you, not that she looks happy wearing it...

Another couple of options for the pink stone are morganite and kunzite, but it's all pure speculation!

I can´t help, I love this one.  It reminds me of a Russian headdress, no this one is huge but I love it, but the following two  look ghastly on both wearers.  Roll Eyes

Now that IS a kokoshnik, beautiful.  I think  they were very popular at one time as occasionally very similar ones appear, the Queen wore one at her wedding, was it this one?  Loelia, Duchess of Westminster was a very beautiful woman and I thought it suited her.  The other monstrosity  would never suit anybody, the aspidestra tiara I mean  Grin

How could we have a dream tiara series in a COLORED DIAMOND forum and not include the Empress Farah's wedding tiara to the the last Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, in 1958?

Its center stone is the incredible Nur-Ul-Ain Diamond, one of the largest pink diamonds in the world.  "The diamond is set in platinum, and is surrounded by diamonds in shades of pink, yellow, and colorless, with a row of colorless baguette diamonds in tapering sizes lining the base of the tiara. The Nur-Ul-Ain is an oval brilliant cut of around 60 carats and measures approximately 30 × 26 × 11 mm. The other diamonds range from 14 to 19 carats each. The tiara contains 324 diamonds total."

Did I mention that Harry Winston designed this piece?

I think that might be because there is nothing else green in the ensemble.   Had she worn a green gown, or a grreen ribbon, it might have worked.  But it is a very GREEN tiara, maybe it should be saved for St. Patty's day.  kermit

Well for someone who likes big tiaras even that one is, I thought I would never say it, too big.   Poor little aspidestra tiara has been outdone.
