I was just reading one of my many bridal magazines (yes, I've been married almost ten years, but I still buy the magazines.  Am I really that weird?  They've got lots of bling in them!)  I digress...

Anyway, there was an article about this couple's wedding in Chicago yada yada yada yada, but when they got to the part about her ring, the groom said that he had the jeweler deliver it to his office via an armored  truck!  It was a 9.5 yellow diamond from Graff.

Now, I just wonder.  Would I feel comfortable wearing something on my finger full-time if it needed a bodyguard for it??  I mean.  I would want to wear it, but if I had to fear for my life every time I put the ring on, would it really be that much fun?

What do y'all think?

No not weird at all! I do the same!!

WOW I can't imagine having an armored truck deliver a ring.  I too would question if it was worth wearing if it's that valuable.  I wouldn't be comfortable unless I lived in Bev Hills...

I love to look at bridal magazines!  They have wonderful pics of rings!

---about the huge ring---I wouldn't be able to enjoy it for fear of losing it or someone knocking me off for it.  That size just sounds too big for me anyway!

I always sneak a peak at bridal magazines when I am in bookstores!  So many ideas for jewels!!

I just don't see myself living a life where I could wear a 9+ ct diamond, but I know that I have met plenty of women who can and do, so I don't think it is out of the question.  I don't know that I would wear it walking down the streets of NYC, but yes, Snoop, a nice day out in BH or a trek to Palm Beach could handle that stone just fine and dandy.

I repeat, however, not for me in this lifetime.

BTW, I spent the day at Disneyland today, and I happened to steal glances at many a lady's rings, and it struck me that we here on CDI are in the very blessed minority who have stones even the size of ours!  My .80 ct rb in its stunning halo looked like a monster in comparison to most I spied.

Good point GL.  I always read about the ave diamond and depending on the source some say 1/3 to .75 being the ave.  And honestly, it is TRUE! I think all members of diamond forums are a UNIQUE bunch.  I know my friends think I am nuts...

If I owned that monster ring I think that it would be kept in the bank and all the clerks would be sick of letting me in and out to gaze at it.
I too think that CDI´s are definitely privileged, here too you never see more than .75 and that size is rare.  I have seen some really huge bling on sale at antique jewellery stores and I know for sure they are bought, so it may be that they just make sure they aren´t seen in town with them.
There is an American woman, a regular  in all the society magazines here, who is married to a young Portugese and they say she is  a designer (or ex-designer) for Cartier, she wears some gorgeous stuff.  The couple  are  known for being eccentric and  plastic surgery,  her jewels  are out of this world, his too.  He wears a lot of diamonds.  She is said to own a diamond company in NY. Her name is Betty Graftstein.
I gather she is well known in NYC.

A ring that large, and that valuable, would be way out of my comfort zone. And I agree, the members of this forum are a very well-educated and elite group. I also have heard that the average size of the center stone for an engagement ring is .25 carats.

I'd wear it! Briefly - it would look like I'd stolen it!  Evil

When things arrive for me by Fedex, the  mail man in our office is now clued up as to what's in the box. He takes the envelope out of the box and has his dog deliver it to my desk. He thinks it's cute. I would way prefer an armoured truck to a small, deaf spaniel, as lovely as she is. Grin

Jen, you crack me up!

It is hard to say how I would react as I have never lived in a world where a 9 ct diamond was even a remote possibility.  I used to say that I didn't want a big diamond as they just looked too much.  Well, let me tell you I cannot wait to get that 3.09 that is on its way, so that's what I get for saying things  Wink

It seems like a lot for a ring, but then if it were offered I am not so sure that I would turn it down...

Haha Jen!   I use to say that I could never see myself wearing more than a 2carat.......boy have I changed my mind on that statement!! Wink

I get grief and the  Roll Eyes concerning my diamond passion from my family/friends.  They think my diamonds are too big and that I have too many!   I will say that I could never sport a diamond that is worth more than my house.   It just wouldn't seem right.   I guess my principals kick in somewhere concerning diamonds.... Wink Grin

I too love to look through the Bridal Magazines.   One of my favorite magazines that has alot of bling in it is Town & Country!   I actually subscribe to it! Smiley

Okay so you have an armored truck deliver the ring but then what?  You slip it onto your finger that's attached to your 120lb body and that's alright, is it?  What no martial art lessons or matching Smith and Wesson's at your hips?  Seems a little overkill considering some slip of a girl is going to be personally responsible for it's well being once the armored plated vehicle and 200lbs guards are long gone!  Having said that, perhaps the company wanted to ensure there was no liability on their part when it came to delivery - that would make some sense.

You know, if I had a ring like that, I would cheerfully let myself be chauffered around in the back of an armored truck to ensure its safety.  (Wait-- wonder if it has AC back there??  This is Texas, after all....)

But yes, I, too, wondered if this was some kind of liability thing-- or just a way to show off.

luvn~

I LOVE Town and Country magazine.  I also subscribe to it -- just for the bling!  Graff's ads are always the most insane!  A while back, there was an ad with a multicolored diamond necklace in it -- blues, greens, pinks, browns, oranges, yellows -- the works!  My mind can't even begin to think how much it was worth.  It was museum quality.

Funnily enough just the other day I saw a 10ct diamond solitaire ring in a pawn shop in town, priced £24,000 or approx $48,000, secondhand not new of course.
I spent quite a while staring at it, not because I thought it was beautiful but because it reminded me of the door knobs in my childhood home. They were glass and faceted. I`m sure I`d spend all my time playing with the darned thing if I owned it and I wonder if the weight of it would be comfortable ?
Maybe I should pop in there and try it on just for the sake of it ?

Heck, my 'budget' 0.60 gets me in trouble with my married buddies back home for showing them up... it's not out of the ordinary in terms of size for Calgary, but then again this is a boomtown at the moment.

And I'll bet that the CDI'ers here paid a shwack less than average for the size of the stones they have.  You KNOW that all those celebs and corporate trophy wives don't get diamond-educated or go comparison shopping!  Grin

OH!  This morning was so funny!  My son's preschool teacher and I were talking about some of the funny things he has said lately, and among them, he has been talking about weddings a lot (he has seen our wedding video many times).

Among other details, he apparently he told the teacher that "Mommies wear pretty rings!"

Is he a well-educated 4-year old or what?! Kiss

Side note: I have a friend in Calgary, who bought a .33 F a few years ago, boy did he ever have trouble getting it mounted, and he paid through the nose!

That's why I will probably always look south for purchases (mind you... tariffs were just repealed last year, so in the past things weren't as attractive in the US).  I know one very good diamond dealer in town, but his setting selection is limited and his markups are pretty high, although at least he tells you what the markup is! I don't know any good metalsmiths out here.
