Today is the 40th anniv. of M. L. King's assassination -- I remember that night, April 4, 1968 as a young teen, watching the TV news and hearing it. It was horrible. And I remember Bobby Kennedy's speech also; it was incredibly articulate and moving  - he calmed the crowds in Indianapolis, where he was campaigning that night to be president.
Anyway, just wanted to share -- it's a long time ago, but it was an important, tragic event. Hopefully this country has healed in some ways since then, and we have a lot more work to do still.
I actually believe good-quality forums like the one we have here go a long way in bringing people together in a very positive way, in peace, harmony, and friendship - all great qualities for us to share!

I remember the evening my father and I heard the announcement on the radio.  We were in the car driving to a dog training class with our new Boston Terrier puppy.  My father was SO upset... I don't even know if we got to the class, he may have turned around to go home to talk with my Mom (no cell phones, you know!).  I can't recall.  At the time, I was too young (or, perhaps more realistically, too sheltered) to know before that eve who Martin Luther King was... I couldn't understand how my father could be so upset over the loss of someone whom I'd never even heard of.  That didn't last long.  Certainly, at nearly the same age today, my son knows about MLK, as well as his messages. We've come a long way, but the trail of consciousness, tolerance, and respect toward fellow man continues...

Thank you for the reminder.

Thank you for starting the thread titania.

Here's the YouTube of Bobby Kennedy's speech that night.  It's not even 2 minutes, but he says a lot.

Also, here's my favorite MLK sermon:

He gave it on the 4th of July, 1965.  It's a long one, but I think it's well worth the read.
