What a lucky girl!!

I didn't find a diamond but I also had a great find this week.  I went to a local flea market Wednesday morning.  I collect fiesta dishes so I was very surprised to come across a vintage pitcher in a rare green color.  It was marked "glass pitcher green" with a price of $12.  I sheepishly asked if the dealer could confirm the price then held onto it for dear life as I reached into my wristlet for my money.  I was almost shaking as I made a quick getaway because I knew the pitcher was valuable...I was thinking somewhere in the $400 range.  I came home and looked it up in my collector's guide and nearly fainted when I saw that it has a book value of between $1500-$1600!!! bliss bliss

Congratulations Lemonluvr what a great find, doesnīt  it feel good too?
When I found a gold, platinum and 27 diamond brooch amongst some cheap fake stuff I did exactly the same, held on to it with all my strength and asked if that was the price, paid and ran, I didnīt even put it in my purse just held it tightly in my little fist.  I paid $20 US for it.

Diamonds, platinum and gold!!  It must have been exhilarating to make a getaway with that treasure!

Trust me, this find was once in a lifetime.  I have been going to flea markets and estate sales for 20+ years and never had this kind of luck.  It's the kind of story that you read about but never happens to you...until this week.

What great finds Lemonluvr and Joia!! I've always wished something like that would happen to me but sadly................no and if I found some jewelry or a diamond somewhere I'd have to turn it in. Lol, I found a handful of pocket change in the Walgreens parking lot one day and turned it in at the register.  Roll Eyes

I felt a bit bad about the brooch but after a little bit of asking around (discreetly)  I found that it had changed hands a few times for a few pennies before it was put up for sale by this last seller.  It is strange that no one noticed that it was real until I picked it up (and ran).  Some years back it was quite common for someone to give their personal maid or an employee they liked a gift that was unwanted and unloved and got rid of as quickly as possible.  It just may have been the origin of this brooch.
Well it is certainly loved where it is now.

In Mozambique after a storm or heavy rainfall we used to  go down near the river Umbeluzi and we would find semi precious stones, mainly jasper, carnelian and amethyst, nothing very big or valuable but what a thrill it was to pick them up and enjoy the colours.  I brought them all back with me and now my young grandson of 13 has them in his collection. There were crocodiles in that river and lions about but I never thought about that at the time and luckily never saw one or the other.
