Thanks everyone...I heard the craziest today.  My boss told me that I could not wear it to work because our customers might think we make too much money. She told me it was a cocktail ring and not for everyday.  Thems is fighting words where I comes from. HA!  I told her that if they know my mother then this will be par for the course.
Fancy colored diamond lovers are sort of like art collectors. We want something different and valuable.
On a lighter note, the girls at the meeting have been going crazy, trying it on and squealing with delight.  I like for people to enjoy it as much as I do.   I don't ever feel like it is something I have and they can't.  I tell them where I get them and if they shop with DBL they can have one too.  NO Biggie!

That made me kinda mad.  Cocktail ring?  So she feels she is the authority on jewelry wearing etiquette does she?  I would about have a cow if my boss told me that!  Thank goodness my boss is David and he'd be thrilled if I was walking around with a 10ct asscher on each hand.........oh, wouldn't that be wonderful advertising?  Maybe he should just send me those.  I mean, just think about all that international advertising I would be doing...........alright, I'm not going to win this one but a girl can try!

Okay, before I completely freak out, where do you work and can you understand her reasoning at all?

Giagirl, your ring is positively stunning!!  (love pear shapes) Wear it every day - all day.  What kind of business are you in?  Your boss doesn't want customers to know her people are sucessful?
I think Elizabeth mentioned people asking her "is it real?"  It reminded me when I was asked once about a ring " is it real?"  I smiled and sweetly asked " you see it don't you?" After a moment of stunned silence, they laughed, I laughed, end of question.
Anyway, congats on a gorgeous ring!

LOL!.... oh you are goooood DJ!!

GG,.....so if you go out and purchase a Mercedes,  is your boss going to tell you not to drive that???    I can't imagine my boss saying such a thing.  It is my sweat equity that earned that ring and it certainly is no ones business, especially my boss as to how I spend my paycheck.   Please tell me that your boss was kidding when he/she said you "could" not wear that ring! Huh?---   and "COCKTAIL" ring................ I think NOT

Sparkly size is a personal preference.  Like hair cuts and colors.

I was reading this thread real fast and read it as ..."Like hair cuts and CURLERS."  ...and got this mental image of wearing big ole curlers in my hair to work just to tick off the boss...LOL!  Here ya go, found a pic...note the bling, the bag, and the big hair... sheesh, I stayed up too late last night, I'm loopy...

Gotta agree with you AZ, the NERVE of the boss!!  Unless it is seriously some kind of safety issue, it's just jealousy, ignore her...or yeah, better yet, add some blingy bands too!

Well Gia I can`t see how your boss can stop you from wearing it unless it`s on Health and Safety grounds such as operating machinery or having to physically handle people. You`re not the first to have such comments. Jen ( Mrs Mitchell ) had someone comment about her jewellery not being appropriate for a meeting and I`ve had them too.
My jewellery is fairly plain by CDI standards but because I work with a lot of " old school mentality " and for a particular Charity, I`m expected to fit in with their ideals ie. no makeup, no jewellery except a plain wedding band, dark plain clothes and flat shoes and certainly to never ever allow alcohol to pass my lips nor to indulge in sins of the flesh ( whatever they may be  Roll Eyes ) and never to utter an expletive !
I`ve failed miserably on ALL counts over the 12 years I`ve worked for them lol but all they can do is TRY to impress their ideals upon you, they certainly can`t impose them or make them compulsory.
Geez my employers even bought me a corporate uniform ( awful sackcloth and ashes style ) but all that made me do is wear my most colourful jewellery, shoes and lipstick. My motto is don`t try to join them, just beat them .... at their own game so dang well wear that ring EVERY SINGLE COTTON PICKING DAY !

Ok, I am a bit socially backwards, could someone kindly explain how looking as miserable as possible is supposed to provide better service or sympathy? Personally, there have been times I have been 'down and out' and the last thing I wanted to see was something more miserable...bright colors, good things, and a smile let me know that I could have those things too, with work and time. Hope is an infectious gift...if you see good things you know you can achieve them too.

I have to agree with Awestruck here.  BUT, if it is NOT a health or safety issue, honestly, sometimes I think that it isn't worth the trouble to deal with people who insist on willy-nilly "control." Next time it comes up, you might consider laughing hysterically and saying something like, "You think this ring is REAL? Hahahahahahaha!" At the very least, you can take a little joy in the fact that he/she will never know for sure whether you're kidding or not, and, it may drive him/her just a bit crazy wondering...

On the other hand, MANY years ago when I lived in New England (think conservative) I went to work dressed like a character from the TV shows Dallas or Dynasty (think Joan Collins in silk and big shoulder pads). At the end of the day, my business partner (later to become my husband) suggested that perhaps I was a bit "over dressed" for work.  Moreover, he said that he thought I made our clients uncomfortable because they were preoccupied with my over-the-top ensemble instead of the business at hand. To my partner, my outfit definately made me look less professional. I was mortified.  But, looking back on it, I know that he was right (sultry Joan Collins had no business being ANYWHERE in New England... at least not during the daytime)! In reality, was my work or attitude any less professional on that day? No. But, was my work or attitude PERCEIVED to be less professional? Yes.  And, experience has taught me that, unfortunately, perception is often reality... especially in business. And, as sexist as it may be, I still think this is an issue that pertains more to women than to men.  Roll Eyes

Regardless, Gia, however you decide to manage your situation, enjoy your beautiful ring and never let other people dictate how you feel about yourself.

At LEAST a 10 ct. He could write it off as a tax deduction.  That is "free" advertising!  What's wrong with that?

AHHH, I am laughing thinking of some kind of sitcom situation where you are the boss' nemesis, but only because he is sexually frustrated.  NOW HE IS YOUR HUSBAND!  THAT IS CLASSIC!  This reminds be of a story my Mom told me.  She was teaching in the 60's at an all boys school.  She said that she had saved and saved for these beautiful brown leather boots...because that is what everyone wore in the 60's.  She showed up in them and the principal, who was constantly giving her grief said "Miss GIAgirl's mom, boots are for hunting and fishing!"  My Mom said she wheeled around and got up right in his face and said real cat-like "Well, you never know what I am hunting, now do you?"  She said he never bothered her again!!!  HAAA!!!

Here is the kicker...I am a rep for physicians!  I see doctors all day long...and granted doctors are getting paid less and less, but I of all people understand sales and politics.  Doctors used to make their fees and now insurance companies reimburse them less and less for the same services.  If a physician is  not business savvy, have a good office manager or have a good billing company they can almost not break even...however, mine are in good standing.  I see surgeons for heaven's sake!  One of my doctors drives a Maseratti!!!!

Now the girls that run the office are a little different story....but here is the thing...I am so approachable.  When they ask me about my jewelry I explain how to get it without spending a fortune.  I explain that the movie stars may have a "fancy yellow" in each ear valued at some crazy amount, but I did my homework and got a Y-Z.  I show them the different cuts and how different cuts look bigger...so on...women like talking about diamonds! They love it.  I also tell them how my mom quit smoking and bought jewelry.   That makes sense!  Rarely some say nasty things...but for the most part they know my ear studs are from a pawn shop and I have no kids...so what is the problem?   I have shown the physicians the DBL website and guess what?  One of them bought his fiance one!  He loved my ring!   I explain that there is huge mark up on jewelry and most of the stores here are paying premium price for the store, sales people, insurance...they know all of this because they are in business too.  They love that David is on the internet and can offer lower prices.  It is no mystery.

My boss is one to talk.  She drives a 6-series BMW convertible, carries these crazy expensive purses and wears crazy expensive shoes.  The doctor's notice her shoes more than my jewelry.    Priorities, my friends!

You know what GIAGirl?  Forget everything I said earlier.  Tell your boss we want her business.  Seriously.  We can make a believer out of just about anyone and we would be delighted to have the honor of sparkling up her fingers, neck and ears.  I can only imagine that once she owns a really fabulous yellow, she'll understand your passion and excitement for them - and that's something we'd love to share with her.  Please point her to the forum and have her give us a call.

Alright, David, WM, Annie & Snoop!  We have a boss to convert into a yellow diamond lover!  I know this is a hard mission, but I have every faith in the powers of our yellow diamonds - MISSION POSSIBLE!   Cheesy
