Yellow diamonds are not the norm...and I think most of us are used to getting plenty of comments.

I just received my new 2.73 Y-Z Yellow Pear and it is NOT a subtle ring by any means...I would say that most everyone has noticed it!   Most people have gone crazy over it, however some people have been shockingly negative about it.  It is a beautiful ring, so that can mean only one thing...SOUR GRAPES!  That is what my mom calls it when people make negative comments to ruin your excitement out of jealousy...Here are some of the things I have heard over the past couple of days:

"I would not want a ring that big because people would not think it was real."
"I would not want a yellow diamond because people would not know what it was."
"I could have had a ring like that but my husband bought me a car instead."

...AND MY FAVORITE:
"Mine is smaller, but it is a NICE WHITE DIAMOND."

GIA that`s part and parcel of life, no matter whether it`s jewellery or anything else. As long as you love the ring then other people`s opinions don`t mean a jot.
I have very plain conservative tastes and I daresay compared to others it seems boring but here at CDI we are genuinely pleased for everybody`s new treasures, small or large. Each and every one of us are pleased for you so let the rest of the World go hang.

You know, there is always someone just ready with a snippy comment to try and take all your joy away.  You won't find any of them here - they go straight in the pit of vipers.  WM is merciless like that.   Grin

Just laugh these comments off - truly they are pathetic.  Each to their own and your friends should have enough grace to allow you your happiness rather than attempting to crush it in envy or a simple difference of opinion.  I, for one, do not understand why people buy luxury cars.  Would I tell a friend who has just indulged in one that I would rather have a new diamond?  Or that I think mine is better?  No!  That's low rent for sure.

Hold your head up high, GIAGirl.......no wait!  Hold your hand up high!   Grin  Um.......I did not say hold that finger up girlfriend......class, grace and composure!   Grin

Great points Awestruck and DJ!

If you think about it, when someone shows you something they like, you can tell right away the response that makes sense.
If someone is beaming about something.....a diamond, a new pair of shoes.. anything- the person who tries to douse that feeling is simply exhibiting a really nasty human trait. We need to feel sorry for them. Sharing joy is a gift that rewards both the giver and receiver.

It depends.  If I am writing to a mainly UK audience, I will add the 'u', if it's maily US then I'll leave it out.  I can tell you now that I am in for some grief when I am home this weekend as I know the odd 'dang', 'diaper' and 'y'all' are going to slip out.   Roll Eyes  Betcha by the time I come back, my American friends will hardly have a clue what I'm saying though!

1. I love cars but the more pleasure you get from them the less they are worth.
2. I really love the photo, if you get a more face on shot, I bet WM will use it
FWIW, mom really hates my browns and my yellows, every time she sees them she literally rants and raves that I should throw 'such garbage' 'out the window right now'! Its like the rant of an asylum resident. This, from a woman whose e-ring stone was around .20 (?) and whose largest diamond is a .25 maul stone.

DJ, as long as you don't use 'youse' or 'yinz' you will be allright Wink

GIAGirl!! I'm sooooooo glad this beauty is yours!! I totally agree that people who are jealous will be the first to be brutally honest, or say something that takes away from your excitement.  But don't let them! Same thing could happen with cars, new pet, clothes, loosing weight, etc.!

What matters is what YOU think about!!!

LOL Ms.K on the Canadian diamond thing!

GIAgirl, know that those comments are quite frequent to not only people on this forum, but probably the world.  My mom said "Beautiful upgrade Sam, but why so big" or "This one girl at my work just got engaged and hers is about the same size as yours"... I saw it... and NO MOM, it's not!

I think it hurts more when it comes from friends or family vs. general public... But again who cares!!!

My horrid redneck co-worker's husband chews snuff.....and the yellow diamond band gets the sapphire treatment all the time. I love how she lights up when the light hits her though.
LOL on Canadian diamond too, its not a better quality of diamond, but the fact that people watched Blood Diamond is what makes them so pricey...
Sam, wear it. I only hope I get to gawk at it in real life....Lucky and Loved YOU!!! I also hear you on family, the brown diamond cracks, among other things, are why I rarely buy mom jewelry anymore!

I am not kidding that it took all my strength not to bruise her coccyx!!!!!!

Well that lady is just another sales person who doesn't know what she's talking about.  Anyone who knows their diamonds knows that no colored gemstone truly looks like one - especially yellow sapphires which have a tendancy to look 'flat'.  Honestly, BR, I'm feeling like breaking out the  thewife in your defense.

Lesson learned though - don't pay attention to a word she says when it comes to jewelry.  She doth not know her arseth from her elboweth!   Cheesy

I have to admit when ANYONE askes me if any of my jewelery is real I always answer "absolutely NOT!"  And believe it or not I have been asked a bunch! I really am never sure why they ask BUT I really would rather them think if is fake and NOT steal it from me! Evil

You know, no one has asked me this... so far.  Odd.

I guess it's that my close friends KNOW it is, my students would have to be pretty gutsy to ask their prof such a question, and probably no one else cares :-).

Oh, speaking of students... I have long suspected that my students don't notice much about my appearance.  I mean, I've had some substantial transformations, such as last fall, when I had a foot of hair cut off.  Most of my students didn't appear to see a difference.  I sometimes think that to them, I'm just this fuzzy shape up at the front of the room, prattling on.  (You know, like the teacher in _Peanuts_?  "Wa wah wa wah wa WAH!")

But on Friday, one of my students came up to me and handed me a card.  It was an invitation to an event at the jeweler's she works for <LOL>.  Apparently she noticed ;-).

I don't let it get to me...I usually just consider the source...yes, most people will think the middle stone is a sappire or citrine.

One sour grapes comment was with my old ring.  I went to a store that carried larger yellows...she looked at my ring and said..."What a sweet little ring."  She said that when I upgraded I would have to come to them.  Our meeting is where that jewelry store is and I may have to go by with the upgrade and remind her of what she said.  OOOR That might be stooping to her level!!!

I love it thoug when someone truly falls in love with yellow diamonds from seeing your ring...The girls at Subway sandwich shop went CRAZY over my ring.  They stopped the whole lunch line to come over and look at it.  It was sweet and I told them all about yellow diamonds.

David,
Did you sell any just recently to a lady from State Farm insurance company in GA because I could have sworn she was going to call and buy a ring after seeing mine.  She was actually the one who said she could have had a ring but her husband bought her a car.  Then she said that she had some money left over and I showed her the smaller rings...I loved R1722!!!!

"I would not want a yellow diamond because people would not know what it was."
"Mine is smaller, but it is a NICE WHITE DIAMOND."

Clearly, there are people who have rings that they buy only to mirrror what others like and to make a statement about their social position. Kind of sad.

The second one slays me. I don't think yellow diamonds are for that type of person quite frankly. They really appeal to the sort of person who doesn't want a "standard issue" diamond ring or one like the rest of the planet.
