I just thought about this thread as I read the reply I received to an inquiry about a vintage diamond band on ebay.  It is a beautiful band and they had a "best offer" option but no information about a return policy.  So, I wrote the seller that I would be interested in making an offer if he/she would tell me what their return policy is.  He writes me back that

If you think you are going to return the ring ~ then it is best if you don't buy it and save us both the trouble, thanks.

What the heck?  Of course I don't think I'll return the ring or why would I buy it?  But, I would like the option to return the ring just in case it isn't what I see in the pictures.  Do these people not want to sell things?

Isn't that weird!  That happened to me once too (with a Prada skirt - I was worried about the fit).  They said it sounded like I must not really be in love with it and therefore should let someone else buy it. HUGE red flag in my mind!

Yea, I will NOT be buying that ring which is disappointing because it was a beautiful vintage piece.   Angry  It just seems like simple common sense to me that you would not treat potential customers like that but apparently I'm wrong since you ran into the same type of behavior with a totally different item, GL.

Man, do I have to do everything around here?

« Reply #32 on: May 22, 2007, 10:31:31 AM »

Sorry to hear that!

Here is a very simple handy free website--put in the ebay seller's name and you can see a list of all negative feedback in a row

Thanks Geena--very helpful.  I'm BOT...LOL!

That's just appalling - how freakin' rude is that?!  Lesson learned I guess - avoid seller like the plague! GRRRR!

URG!    For a seller to respond like that, it tells me that they don't have the confidence in the item in the first place!     If there is no return policy listed,  shows that they are even more "inconfident"!!      Roll Eyes

always a rule of thumb, if there's no return policy, it's something that you wouldn't want in the first place...  especially when the seller starts being defensive!  big red flag!

eBayers are still at it Wink

I was looking at some diamond studs, and the seller had a pic up that looked very, um, enhanced. I asked to see a picture of the actual item and was told 'this is a picture of the actual item'... which would be okay, except it was a dutch auction - seven pairs up for grabs!  Grin So which pair was it the actual picture of?

Yeah... I was considering getting a pair of tiny diamond studs for my little girl from an Ebay seller.  His pictures looked the same in all his auctions.  I asked him about it and he said that the pair I would be getting is graded as stated in the auction.  I did not buy them but he did offer to refunded everything including shipping if they were not to my liking.......   I just didn't want to go through the hassle.   I told him that it would do him some good to take the time and put up pics of the exact item for sale.

eBay is a special source of frustration to me Smiley I would be the auction police if it were allowed. 'Finest cut cubic zirconia? DOES NOT GO IN THE DIAMOND SECTION!! *banninate*'

ACK!  I had a feeling I was telling on my self.    Sorry David... I really wanted to keep it "el cheapo" since I have a "crappy" budget.   Besides,  I am standing on the fence as to buying her earrings right now.......Since we spent alot of $$ on her for Christmas and her Birthday on the 26th.

But, all  this said,  if one would want some beautiful tiny little princess cut studs (.15-.20) for a child,  can you give us a ball park figure as to how much we are looking at?

Everytime I try to cheap out and buy something for nothing...it is usually just that...a little something for nothing.

Plus, what I have found is that my jewelry from David looks so good that I have to step it up a bit in the other areas...so this cheap stuff from Ebay will not cut it.

What I have resolved to do it save up for the good stuff from David.  I have learned my lesson....now if I buy off Ebay I will sell it in my consignment jewelry store and save up for a nice piece from David to keep.   That is what I am trying to do to get Miss Tropicana.  That is the only problem with going nice and big....your junk jewelry looks just like...well junk.   My2cents

Ok...I'm still on this...plus it is not worth the stress of sending something back and wondering whether or not that person is going to FREAK out and lie to Ebay and say something bad about you.

People are CRAZY you guys.  I was watching Cout TV (now TRU TV-guilty pleasure sorry, not proud of it) but there was some dude that sent a pipe bomb because he thought he was cheated on ebay.   CRAZY!  David will NEVER send you a pipe bomb (I am pretty sure) unless you request one filled with diamonds!!! David, those studs are dee-licious!  DANG. Gets me thinking about my next project again (which I can't afford to do right now, I'm SUPPOSED to be planning a wedding)...  1087
