I think he was crazy!  Why would someone want to chase away a customer?
But, there are some nutty people out there.

Less than an hour drive from here is a shop with wonderful Asian things, including beautiful vintage jade jewelry.  Over the years, I bought a few things there.  Two years ago,, I went in there and spent time looking at all the antique rings, but didn't buy anything.  The woman muttered something about "wasting her time."  I vowed to myself to never go back, and I haven't...and also I gave the store a bad review on an Internet business rating site.

Two weeks ago, I went to a party, and saw a friend there who was wearing a pretty beaded necklace.  She told me that she bought it at that shop--and I then told her my story, and she said the woman was very rude to her also, and that she won't go back either.

Geena, it would be a scream for you to start a "better service warning" warning website/blog in which you detail your experiences with various vendors...good or bad...
I had a non-jewelry experience yesterday...I ran the route that my dermatolgist is on...and delivered their mail at 12:05. The receptionist yelled, across a huge waiting room of people that "This is a doctor's office, and their mail is to arrive before noon, and not to trouble her with the mail...receptionists don't deal with mail..that is the mail room's function, and how stupid are you not to know where it is" Humm, I am filling in for a carrier on vacation..
"Sorry darling, I am not your normal carrier, my normal capacity here is a patient !"
The doctor made her call the post office and apologize.

The problem she is a "still employed" donkey.  There are lots of nice unemployed people about I bet.  The Peter Principle for sure she has reached her zenith and others have to put up with her.

He snarled "It's $1000 and I bet you don't even have that amount in your bank account."

No.  Way.  How did you not leap the counter and slap him?!?!?  OMG!  I can't believe anyone would talk to a potential customer that way - no matter what!  That's just awful Geena!

EMJ, at least she was forced to apologize.  Just think how many business turn a deaf ear to this kind of behavior.  At least the doctor understands proper manners so that's a little saving grace.

You had the laugh on him Geena, it was frightfully rude and stupid on his part to talk to a customer like that but he was the one that lost out.  I think I told here some  time ago about a friend who went to ask about an apartment and was told he could never afford it, and unfortunately when he knew the price he couldnīt. LOL.

Only problem is I can't afford to buy a huge honkin' diamond to flash at him. Almost all my money is tied up in real estate holdings!!  I actually have a much smaller jewelry budget than most of you :-)

But, when the day comes when I can score a flashy yellow bauble, I'll visit David and then, I'll flash it to the jerk (if I can find him) LOL

If you go to Yahoo home page, there is a section called "Local."  It is on the upper right area of the page.  You can type in any place, and view and post reviews on local businesses.  It is interesting reading, and that is where I placed my review of that store that sells jade.

For more interesting reading on rudeness and everyday living in general (and it's a friendly, polite forum too) go to:

A bad memory of that experience just came back.  When I travel to New York, I usually wear sterling silver jewelry and a plain wedding band with no diamonds so that I feel safer on the streets.  The jerk also said, "Yes, I  can see that you can only afford to wear silver!"

Thanks, diamondjunkie  heart2  It's not easy, but I learned the hard way about how it's better to walk away from people like that.  I used to sharply talk back or even react violently (in my younger days--I don't want to go there with details)
It would end up that I would be hurt emotionally, and later feel guilty for taking the bait--all because of  jerks who would most likely never change anyway.,

On 47th Street, there is one exchange that is the biggest, on the center of the street on the north side.  It didn't happen there.  There are some smaller exchanges, and it happened in one of them.  I don't remember which one LOL.

Good point... For now, in my spunky last year as a 20 something, I tend to talk back, but you're right Geena... I am not like that, I can change... THEY are more than likely not going to... but I know what you mean...

I would never say such a thing, and I hate when people are "better than others".

Agreed.   Wink
I used to be more hotheaded and impatient in my twenties. When my ego was bruised, I'd go on the attack or seek revenge passive-aggressively.  I like to think of myself as a calm and spiritual person, so I have tried to work on maintaining my composure.  Now, in my fifties, I'm a very different person than I used to be.

Something that happened to me in 1990 has greatly influenced me.  My husband and I were travelling in Oakland, California.  The day before, we had eaten in a good Vietnamese restaurant.  So, we were in the car looking for it to eat there again.  We were unfamiliar with the city.  My husband, normally a good, cautious driver, sailed through a red light that he didn't see because he was looking straight ahead and not at the pole on the left with the light.  He was distracted also because he was very hungry.

I looked to my right and saw cars going 35-45 mph coming at us, and a pick-up truck crashed into us.

We totalled the man's truck (nobody was hurt except we found out later that our insurance company paid for his chiropractic treatments and I had a big linear bruise from my seat belt)  Though insurance companies and police advise not to admit fault, we immediately did to this man and paid him so he could take a taxi to his destination.

The man was so sweet and treated us with great respect.  He helped put our spare tire on and made sure we were OK.

Here was a situation where faced with great stress, this man remained calm and generously helpful.  He is an inspiration to me.

Got any pics of your silver pieces? I love all the neat designs that are made in silver....
