Thought this was interesting... starting bid for this platinum ring is $31,000 and the seller says "you will never see another ring like this anywhere, ever. Estate natural fancy dark orangy brown Asscher cut 2.14ct diamond. That's right orangy – very, very rare. Very well cut. SI clarity. Certified. The real deal. Circa 1920. Side diamonds also from an estate – nice square emerald cuts." (EGL cert. The sides are about 1.50cts H-I, VS).

I saw that one too Trinkette and it made me laugh!  Gosh now where have a I seen something like that before..............oh yes!  Right here!

Ebay auction

My asscher is an orangey brown and even if it were flanked by ECs it would not have set me back remotely close to $31k - how hilarious!

Actually, asscher cuts ARE a vintage / older cut. But I think they dropped out of popularity for a while. And then a sort of updated version called the Royal Asscher got a brand for thier name and I think that sort of revamped the interest in them again.

I don't know when the original asschers were cut (the old ones) but I believe it was quite some time ago.

I think that's how the history for them went anyway.

The things you find on ebay never cease to amaze me!!  Now I've had lots of great transactions and love ebay, but, here's an auction for an EGL certified 1.52 ct K I1 RB diamond for "60 % off Rap"....hmmmm.....definitely doesn't seem an "above board" auction, but it doesn't seem overly unusual considering it's ebay until you check out the feedback!  Now maybe I'm wrong (or naive  Cheesy), but this seems like a HUGELY blatant example of feedback manipulation.   Roll Eyes There are so many things wrong with ALL the MULTIPLE feedback, I'm too tired to even think about writing them!  LOL

Anyway, just thought it was good for a laugh!!  How exhausting it must be to manage all those "false" auctions and feedbacks?   Grin

I don't think we can post the auction link itself, but you can cut and paste a photo without the seller's information showing up in the thread...but you are right...it seems....odd?

Thanks AZ-I do too Smiley

It's a bad pic, but it sparkles like crazy hypnodisk

I've had the pendant awhile and get alot of questions about what kind of cut the center stone is---alot of people think since its square that it is a princess cut.

You know, David always has some warmer colored asschers, I wonder, would a blue halo make them look whiter?

The only jewelry purchase I made on Ebay was on a 3 stone ring with a sapphire center stone and two 1/5 carat si1 diamond sides on a platinum band. It was used and one of the side diamonds was loose but I only paid 100 bucks and it came with a certification. (although it's an informal one from the store.) Some of the sellers there for new jewelry are ridiculous, you see F VS1 on the topic and when you look at the auction it says either treated or H si2  Roll Eyes

Look what is for sale on ebay right now! These earrings are 20.08ctw, 1 is 10.01cts and the other is 10.07cts! I think the bid is up over 500,000! They even have GIA's for each stone! It comes with a 2 million dollar appraisal! Hey does anyone have 750g's I can borrow!  Grin Roll Eyes
