Well, to make a long story short (ok, not short but shorter than I could make it!    Evil ), I bought some fairly large golden yellow citrines (both over 10 cts. each, a cushion and a fancy shaped triangle cut {no, not trillion}) off of ebay, from someone with pretty good feedback (I don't remember exactly what it was then, but I'd say about 98% positive). So, you'd think I would get what they described, right?Huh? Not when the customers don't know anything about what they're buying. So, the description said they were both "eye clean". My first clue should have been that they grade their stones with the "A" scale, you know, A, AA, AAA. That's not how a gemstone is actually graded, but they said their customers appreciate it. My second clue should have been the price! (only about $10 each!!!!!)  But no, I just thought that the stones would be wonderful to have and look at since they were supposedly eye clean.

So - as many of you probably have guessed, the stones are NOT eye clean, they have A LOT of feathers inside of them which are VERY visible, even to my untrained eyes (and I have terrible vision too!). On top of that, they didn't pad the manila envelope they used to send them in, so they ended up getting little chips on the facets (that made me VERY mad, because they would have been wonderful otherwise). I gave the seller neutral feedback, but stated that the stones were chipped and flaws were easily visible, and if you want quality stones, go somewhere else.

On the flip side, I bought some carats of stones that are "chipped, abraided reject stones" from someone (I can't remember how many carats and if it was the same seller or not) and I ended up with some gorgeous stones! They had thrown all of their "rejects" into a bag, and then pulled out however many carats you won in the auction and send them to you. I got a beautiful EC stone that I'm still not sure what it is, or why it's a "reject". It only has tiny, tiny chips on the girdle, and has a beautiful color. I also got a beautiful pear shaped peach mystic topaz, that has a chip on the back that looks like a facet from the front of you don't look too hard!

Sorry for the long post, but I thought it was well worth it, even if not about diamonds!  Oh, and I'll post some pics of them all later, I'm at work right now, so unfortunately you'll have to wait, but I promise it'll be worth it (after all, I do have 72 hours, right?   Wink )

May I post a good story about ebay???
I first found Diamondsbylauren from ebay.  I had a ring from David, that I paid $7500 for.  When I went into Graff in NY they showed me a matching band for $35000 (not $3500) band to go with it because they thought I paid some crazy amount for the engagement ring.

I know this is gonna turn into a  Blond-Moment for me when someone answers this, but I keep seeing abbreviations that I don't understand so I'm gonna have to start asking.  What do you mean by an EC stone?

EC = Emerald Cut

There's a thread about abbreviations and I can't find it as I gotta take my dog out!! YIKES!

I only buy from sellers with 99.8% and above. Even then, anyone with a less than perfect feedback record always gets a looksee.  I go through the feedback and see if there is a pattern..  Sometimes bad business practices are masked in neutral feedback or feedback mutually withdrawn after mediation.  I think where there is too much smoke there is usually fire.

This is similar to the band I was shown at Graff.  Sadly, we did not get married and the ring is for sales in a consignment shop.  Undecided

I have ALWAYS wanted a yellow diamond, so it was special to me.  I still love them so I will live vicariously through you guys!!!

Ok, now I can understand the price of the band better! LOL that'd be a HUGE band! Not sure one could bend their fingers well! Sorry about the wedding not going through, it happens Sad

So what ring is your avatar?

So sorry that things didn't work out for you, GIAGirl. Hugs.

What about treating yourself to a little pair of the very lovely petite yellow studs? Just a small splurge to calm the yellow diamond cravings?

The band you posted is quite amazing! Not sure if it would exactly be 'comfort fit' but what a stunning ring!

Thanks for your support!  I know it is very sad.  The ring on my avatar is my other good Ebay story.  It is my 3.5 carat emerald cut diamond.  I got it CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!!  I looking for a setting now.
