Got it abbout the men's room  Wink

The diamond looks extremely gorgeous. I'll show it to her and I am sure we can arrange something to accomodate both parties Smiley

Will keep you inform.

Question about upkeeping the diamond ring.

How do I go about cleaning it?
Can the diamond get loose from the ring? If so, how do I prevent it from happening?
Can I take to a well known store to make sure all is tight and clean?

Newbie here. Smiley

Thanks.

Great question Badduck.
We offer a lifetime workmanship guarantee on our rings- if a stone ever comes loose, we'll fix it for free.

Generally speaking this never happens on our three stone rings.
Rings with a lot of smaller diamonds ( micro-set, or halo rings) are more prone to this- for a lot of reasons.

It might be a very good idea to have someone in the busines you are comfortable with check over your rings on a periodic basis.
BUT- it's important NOT to let just anyone work on your ring.

Hopefully you'll get some good cleaning advice from some of our readers-

BD, my DW is fanatic about keeping her rings clean and sparkly. She loves her Jet Steamer. First she uses Dawn detergent with a soft bristled tooth brush then follows it up with a Jet Steam. Probably one of the "most used" gifts I've ever given her. (the steamer, not the toothbrush-- I could see Trinkette giving me a hard time over that one). As I was saying, in the event of an evacuation, here's the things DW would take with her:
Family photo album, blow dryer and Jet steamer--seriously.

Dear DJM -

The steamer looks like some piece of industrial equipment!   Grin

Where in the world did you get it?

They are wonderful, Mikla.  I have one too but don't use it as much as I need to use a transformer.   Roll Eyes  If you google 'Jewel Jet' you should be able to locate one.  Good luck!

Sorry Mikla!  I'm in Europe so whenever I want to plug in an American appliance, I have to drag out a very heavy transformer to plug into the wall, to then plug the appliance into.  It means I often avoid our American appliances........which include the vaccuum cleaner...........bad DJ!

I clean my rings everyday... sometimes more than once (  1087 ).  When I use the Jewel Jet, they sparkle and glimmer heads and tails above when I just soak and scrub with a little brush. I have an ultrasonic cleaner around here somewhere, but I've never found it after we moved a few years ago.  I'd like to try an ionic cleaner, I've heard it is safer for most jewelry than an ultrasonic.  My routine would be, 1) soak in jewelry cleaner (or ammonia and water or something like Mr. Clean and water; 2) quick scrub w/brush; 3) treat in ultrasonic/ionic cleaner; 4) steam w/jewel jet.
*PHEW*  After that, surely they'd see me coming from across the room!  Cool

Dear All -

I am having a hard time keeping my FLY radiant ring clean.  The bottom of the head is closed and I'm wondering if it's because I can't really get in there to clean the underside of the diamond.  Any hints for me?

 Huh? Mikla

Bit of washing up liquid with a soft brush if needed with hot water to rinse it off.

Mikla, yes, as long as the sapphires haven't been filled or are already flawed or damaged.

Hi every one.
Jewelries are expensive as well as  it is very close to our feelings as it might be gifted or purchased by us for some special occasions. So,it's obvious that we always take special care of such things. And i want to suggest u some special tips for "jewelry care".

SMALL TIPS:
Your new jewelry will give you many years of enjoyment if you care for it as you would any other fine piece of jewelry.

1.Store your jewelry in a clean, dry place out of direct sun light. Store jewelry flat so that the string doesn't stretch and the wires don't get tangled, and separate with a soft cloth so pieces don't get scratched. A jewelry roll, or individual cloth or plastic bags is a good way to keep your jewelry clean and safe.

2.Pearls benefit by wearing them - the oils in your skin will make them glow. Dull pearls beg to be worn. Always wipe with a soft cloth before putting them away. Pearls should be stored in a cotton-filled box or soft cloth bag.

3.Sterling Silver will keep it's shine longer if stored in sealed plastic bags. (Never store pearls in plastic bags!) Bring the shine back to your silver with a soft silver cleaning cloth. Never use harsh abrasive cleaners or silver polish as it may damage the other beads.

4.To clean gemstones ,beads, lightly cleanse your jewelry with warm water and a little dish soap, rinse well and gently. Wipe the water.

A tip from one of my favorite jewelers:

A finishing touch for diamonds, gold and the 'hard gemstones': after rinsing in water, rinse jewelry in isopropyl alcohol to remove any remaining soap film. Dry with a soft cloth.

If I am in a hurry, I will wipe off my jewelry with a cotton ball moistened in alcohol.  This quickly removes the oils from lotions, creams, and make-up.  Individually packaged alcohol swabs from the drug store do a great job, too.  Smiley

I bought a 2.27 ct spinel ring yesterday at an estate jewelry store.  It's the most gorgeous color, kind of a deep pinkish red, almost a burgundy color.  What is the best way to clean spinels?

I am nervous about cleaning any stones other than diamonds since I ruined the opal in a ring my mother gave me for my 18th birthday (a long time ago!).  What is it in the typical jewelry cleaner that ruins some gemstones?

Also I heard that the "cheapo" ultrasonic cleaners aren't any good either, for jewelry of any type.  Are there better machines or is it just best done by hand with a little brush and some dish soap?

Thanks for any and all advice!

Mikla, spinel is my FAVORITE gemstone (next to diamond, of course  Grin ). Your ring sounds lovely.  Do we get to see some photos?

Natural spinel is relatively hard (8 Mohs scale), tough, and stable to light. It is considered safe for most ultrasonic cleaners and steamers. I'd say that you're pretty safe cleaning it as you would a diamond... as long as there hasn't been some sort of funky treatment or filler made to the stone.  But, spinel is normally totally untreated, another reason why I like it so much.

Many jewelry cleaners are made from ammonia or a Mr. Clean like substance.

Poor you! Opals are no match for heat, steam, chemicals, ultrasonics... sometines even water if the opal has been treated.  Undecided

Well, I kept visiting this estate jewelry store to get a jewelry fix by looking at their vintage pieces.  I would never buy a diamond from them since they've got no certs on any of their pieces and I only buy diamonds from DBL!  But I kept looking at this spinel, but I was scared to buy something I don't know much about.  I did read a lot about spinels after that.  The hardness of spinels made me somewhat more comfortable, and then I looked at the stone under a microscope for like an HOUR yesterday.  The stone is completely transparent.  I couldn't find any inclusions, bubbles, scratches or anything.  The color is just absolutely beautiful. The poor store owner, I must have driven him nuts like I do to David when I'm in indecision purgatory.   tard

I'll try to post some quick shots.  I'm notoriously bad at photographing my own items, so don't expect much!   Grin

Honest opinions, please!

I won't take criticism personally, as this is my first spinel purchase and I'm really looking for feedback on the stone.  The ring itself has a 14kt white gold band and platinum head, which need polishing.  I may decide to change the band to platinum.

Mikla,
I really like your spinel.  From your pictures, it looks like it would be a lively red stone.  I prefer ovals in colored gems that are larger that 6mm, and most of my colored stone rings are set as your spinel. Of course, I purchased most of them 10 to 20 years ago.

Between you and OMC, I'm going to have to start hitting the antique stores!

bigclap good job!  Enjoy your ring!

Nice stone. I also like the simple setting; it really brings out the centre stone.

I can't figure out if in real life the stone has a brownish/rusty tinge or not. In the face up pictures it seems like it does, but the side view is more of a blood red. What's it like?

No, it's not rusty or blood red; it's actually more like a vivid burgundy or rosy maroon.  It's either red with lots of pink mixed in or maybe deep rose with lots of red mixed in.  My photos aren't great.  Whatever it is, I really love the color and the cut!

Now that the train has already left the station  Grin , what features should one look for (or avoid) in a spinel?

Mikla, it's a lovely ring and a classic setting that really makes the most of the stone. I hope you enjoy it.
